This is smaller than I thought, and my first impression was that some people would have trouble reading the gauge. To the manufacturer's credit, the clear plastic over the gauge is a slightly convex lens, giving it a little magnification. I have no issues with reading it, but not everyone has 20/20 vision. What I really like is that it has a flat edge on one side, and won't roll aimlessly around my countertop. It fits securely in the plastic tube it comes with, and is compact enough to go in a drawer, without taking room away from anything else. I did not need to calibrate mine, but I saved the instructions (simple) if that day ever arrives.

Mine came calibrated, actually. The manual gave instructions on how to calibrate- basically just involved dipping the thermometer into boiling water and twisting so the measurements are accurate. Glad to have an accurate first read and not deal with the hassle! I use mine at work when I brew tea.

I bought a couple of these just to use for grilling. These are typical. If you drop them then you have to recalibrate them. Normally in the Navy we used ice water and put that in a glass and then read the thermometer. it should be reading at about 32. I wouldnt trust the calibration on these out of the box. Most of them need calibrating. They are nice thermometers and have a nut on the back of them and you just turn it to calibrate. I like them becuase they are easy to read and dont take much space in the front pocket.

Rubbermaid makes a good thermometer and I've had no problems with it. I regularly clean it in the dishwasher and it comes out fine.

I never used this before. Cooked as my mother and grandmother did. I thought the inside temperature was correct. Not so, it was 20 degrees below what would e considered safe to eat. Easy to store in my drawer. Red so it stands out in the drawer. Easy to stick in and read. Washed off and placed back in the drawer. No one ever got sick. At this price make sure they don't. I woud order it again

Accurate, had to recalibrate after about 3 months of household use but that's to be expected. I don't remember if the instructions mentioned, but the way you calibrate this is to fill a cup with ice, then insert the thermometer into the middle of the ice, and once the gauge levels out at a temperate (usually after 30-60 seconds), you can use a screwdriver to twist the back compartment so that the temperature reading is 32F.

A very basic, yet dependable cooking thermometer. While I would not call it rugged, it is well made and seems to be very durable. It is very handy and can clip on to a pocket for when you are grilling. I need it for gauging when steaks are medium rare, my guestimates are rarely correct, but this thermometer makes it simple.

Great for the price paid: $6.15 USD. The thermometer can be calibrated easily and tolerates total immersion in water. I wouldn't put it in the dishwasher, though. I use it to measure the air temperature coming out of my AC duct. Works well. Don't expect the color shown, as I received a red one.

I've purchased expensive digital thermometers but the reality is that this is easier to use and gives a pretty instant read without rotating through settings. I like that it has a cover to prevent getting stabbed as the end is pointy. I also like that it has a flat spot to prevent it from rolling and hitting the ground.

I had purchased a digital previously and it was hard to read and not accurate so I went back to a regular one. Very happy, I got the dishwasher safe version. My vision isn't great but I had no problem reading it. Works perfectly.
