Works great on area rugs, laminate and tile flooring...Cat hair GONE!
We spent a good deal of time and a couple of days deciding which of the many sweepers available to try out. Although we have only one area rug in our living room and two small area rugs in our bedroom, we use this sweeper very effectively on those, on our laminate flooring and picking up cat litter by the cat's box on our bathroom tile. This sweeper has two nice big compartments and I emptied them twice in one go-round in our apartment. The photo shows all the cat hair, leavings from her scratching post and other small particles from our carpets. It works so-so on cat litter, but better than nothing. It fits under most furniture and under the bed and has a nice long reach there (adjustable). The only thing I had to do was unravel hairs from around the sweeper brush that were remainders of 3 uses. On laminate and tile you sometimes have to lift and place the sweeper on top of dust bunnies to get it to pull them up, the corner brushes capture some things but do not throw them into the capture bin so those sometimes need to be foot directed toward the bin. This sweeper does not catch on the carpet weave. It is heavy enough to not flip around in use, but light enough to handle and accomplish what you want to do without having to pull out and set up a vacuum cleaner. For all these reasons we found that this is a great little product and we would buy it again if necessary.

Wonderful cleaning tool
So many things to love about this. Lightweight, but it really picks up the dirt. Don't know how deep the cleaning is, but I'm happy for quick jobs. And emptying it is a dream. Can do it with just one hand. The panel on the bottom says "push," and it opens easily to empty.

Rubbermaid Commercial Executive Series Floor/Carpet Sweeper
I would highly recommend this floor sweeper above any brand out there for several reasons. It's much cheaper and lighter than a vacuum cleaner, very quiet (to a point that I was able to sweep the floor without disturbing my infant son while he was asleep) and great at picking up pet hair (I have a Lab/Malamute mix dog that sheds A LOT in the summer). It is easy to maintain and dump out anything it picks up (it has two flaps on the bottom for each side of the broom and a little comb that attaches to the handle to clean the brush in the middle and in the sides) The one complaint I have about it is that it doesn't take very long for it to fill up. Nonetheless. I'd give this 5 stars all the way!

Building a new dog with this handly tool
I am pleasantly surprised at how good this sweeper works, but more importantly, with the lack of noise and not having to fumble with a power cord I find myself using it daily. It works well on my faux berber carpet and my faux wood floors and picks up so much dog hair that in a few days I may be able to build a faux dog. Dumping the dirt is simple and the body folds up around the handle for storage so I can stick it in the kitchen pantry for easy access. Quality looks good but I notice I am tending to unscrew the handle as I use it. I might stick a dab of glue on the threads to stop that. Highly recommended!

Excellent performance
I purchased this to tidy up the office I work for when running a vacuum would not be possible during busy hours with customers around. Works amazingly on commercial carpet as well as vinyl flooring. Picks up the smallest of debris, usually with one pass. Fits under furniture with ease.

DOES THE JOB!
I purchased this sweeper for a specific reason: to clean my indoor/outdoor rugs and my house rugs like runners and area rugs. It is designed for low carpet and it works well for these rugs. I am surprised as to how much the dirt container holds. I have purchased several other brands of cordless electric brooms and sweepers to use for these rugs and they never picked up as well as the Rubbermaid Commercial Sweeper picks up. The part I like the best is that I don't have to charge it to use it. I did research before I purchased this sweeper and I am very satisfied with my purchase.

Trusted Rubbermaid quality
I bought this because I got mad! I’m so sick of spending $100 on an electric vacuum cleaner that gets clogged and stops working every 6 months. You can’t take them apart to fix because they have special screws. Decided to buy thus mechanical one. Rubbermaid has always had a reputation for quality items. This is no exception. It’s rated as commercial which is even better. It cleans better than my old electric vac. I can tuck this in the corner and grab it for a quick cleanup. It adapts well from carpeted to hardwood flooring with no manual adjustment. We have two long haired people in the house plus two shedding old cats. It picked up the hair great. Was surprised at how much it picked up that the vac missed. Don’t hesitate to buy it. You won’t be sorry. Super quiet too if you like to clean while others are sleeping. No running for a broom and dustpan. No bending. Empty the tray in the garbage can at waist level. No filters to replace. Most of the maintenance is getting hairs out of the brush. They provide a special comb for that.

Excellent Sweeper
I've owned and used a Hoky PowerRotor PR2400 Sweeper in my home for many years. I like it well enough, but when I decided to get a second sweeper for use in my Sunday School classroom, I thought I'd give some other model a try. After fairly exhaustive research (as is my habit before buying almost anything!), I settled on this Rubbermaid Commercial FG421588 Galvanized Steel Brushless Mechanical Sweeper, 10.5" Length x 9.5" Width x 44" Height, Black. For those contemplating a sweeper of this type for the first time, the first thing to clearly understand is that this is a manual sweeper, not a powered vacuum cleaner, and you should not expect anything like the same performance from it as from a vacuum cleaner. Its purpose is to be a convenient, simple, lightweight device for picking up surface debris from a variety of flooring surfaces. The Rubbermaid Commercial FG421588 Galvanized Steel Brushless Mechanical Sweeper, 10.5" Length x 9.5" Width x 44" Height, Black serves that purpose very well. It picks up crumbs, pet hair, dust bunnies, and even fluids from rugs, low-pile carpeting, and hard-surface floors. Here are some other things I like about this sweeper: * The sweeper is lightweight, but at the same time it has enough heft to keep it firmly planted on the floor during operation. I much prefer its weight over that of the lighter Hoky PR2400. * The sweeper base has dust bin viewports on top so you can easily see when the dust bins need to be emptied. * The handle sections are screwed together, not simply pressed together, so they don't disassemble during use, as some other brand sweepers are reported to do (not the Hoky PR2400, however). * Its dual rubber-blade pickup rotors (some may prefer to have bristle brushes on a sweeper, but I prefer the rubber blades because they can deal with fluid spills, too). * Its tough construction, which I put to the test when I accidentally hurled it down the basement steps and onto the concrete basement floor. In conclusion, I'm very satisfied with the Rubbermaid Commercial FG421588 Galvanized Steel Brushless Mechanical Sweeper, 10.5" Length x 9.5" Width x 44" Height, Black, so much so that I decided to keep this sweeper at home, where it gets more use, and take my Hoky PR2400 to my Sunday School classroom, instead.

Great sweeper.
Sweeps great for a quick cleaning. Doesn't do so well on corners and trimmings (must sweep with broom to catch debris). Sweeps up dog hair like no tomorrow. Love that there is a dual waste compartment. Would definitely buy again.

Excellent for small clean-ups in open areas.
This is a review of the Rubbermaid Commercial FG421588 Galvanized Steel Brushless Mechanical Sweeper, 10.5" Length x 9.5" Width x 44" Height, Black, Model No. 4215--the expensive one. It's worth the extra dough. When I was a kid, we had one of those big old Bissel carpet sweepers, and I've always thought they were an ingenious alternative to the cumbersome, noisy, electricity-consuming vacuum cleaner. Of course, they won't do everything a vacuum will do, but for a lot of clean-ups on bare floors or low-pile carpets they're just what the doctor ordered. I didn't know what to expect of the Rubbermaid sweeper's rubber squeegees, which take the place of the Bissel's (and cheaper Rubbermaid models') rotary brushes, but I've been very happy with them. They seem to pick up dirt, dust, and cat litter quite as well as brushes, if not better; and I imagine they'll also do a good job on wet spills, though I haven't had to test that hypothesis yet. I hesitated to give this sweeper five stars, because it's not much use in close quarters (such as on the bathroom rug in a New York City apartment's tiny bathroom), but I decided it wasn't fair to knock off a star for that, considering how the contraption works. Still, buyers should understand this inherent limitation: *You have to have room to move the entire sweeper head roughly a foot in a straight line, or it can't do its thing.* The rotary squeegees, which are two or three inches behind the leading edges (back and front), have to pass over the dirt while turning, or they can't sweep it up. The little stationary, downward-pointing brushes on the corners are presumably intended to reach dirt along the baseboard, where the squeegees can't go (because those are enclosed by the body of the machine), but they're not very effective. That's not a huge complaint, though. If there's dirt right up against the wall, you can use a broom or hand-brush to sweep it out into the open, where the sweeper can get it. This sweeper isn't meant to replace the vacuum cleaner or the broom altogether--it's just easier to use on the jobs it works on, and it works on a lot of common jobs, particularly little spills, tracked-in dirt, and various messy accidents--as long as they're more-or-less out in the open. And it might very well replace the dust pan. The construction of the sweeper seems good. The materials feel sturdy, and the moving parts operate smoothly, without wobbling, squeaking, or other indications of sloppy manufacture or assembly. I've seen complaints about the handles of other manufacturers' sweepers, which are made up of sections that are supposed to hold together by friction, but reportedly don't stay together very well. This machine's handle is sectional, too, but the sections are threaded and they screw together. (Note that the cheaper Rubbermaid models also have friction-fit handles. I have no idea how well or poorly they stay together. Reports vary.) As long as you're careful not to get the threads crossed, this handle should go together and stay together fine, and it feels very solid, once assembled. (Useful tip: To avoid cross-threading, always turn any threaded parts backwards, as if you were unscrewing them, until you hear or feel the click that means the threads have engaged properly.) The rotary squeegees sweep dirt into trays under the front and rear edges of the sweeper. Transparent ABS plastic covers let you see when the trays are getting full, and when you're ready to empty them, you just hold the sweeper right-side up over the trash can and push down on a little tab at the corner of each dust tray. The tray opens downwards, dumps the dirt into the trash can, and springs shut again. These assemblies feel sturdy, and work smoothly and firmly. The sweeper is about as good-looking as anybody can reasonably expect--an unobtrusive shape, and no garish colors, just basic black (though it looks like yellow trim is available if you like garish). It folds flat for easy storage. It's easy to clean, and the squeegees are less prone than traditional rotary brushes to get hair, thread, etc., wrapped around them, which I consider a big advantage. I can't say how durable the parts are, because I haven't used mine very much yet, but I don't anticipate problems. Note that Rubbermaid considers this a "commercial", not a "home", product, so information about it is to be found on the Rubbermaid Commercial web site, at [...] This isn't the cheapest sweeper on the market, but my advice is always to save up and buy the best quality you can possibly afford. A year from now (unless you're in such bad shape that you shouldn't be shopping on the Web in the first place), you won't miss the extra money you spent; but each and every time you use the thing, you'll appreciate having something that works properly and makes your work easier, rather than harder. I'm glad I spent the extra money for this well-made sweeper, and I'm happy to recommend it.
