Love this knife but sharper than it looks. Managed to cut myself already but I should've been more careful. This knife is excellent for paring vegetables and small slicing jobs like onions, garlic, celery, etc. I've used on meat but prefer a serrated knife for those jobs; you may like this as a steak knife, it definitely can do the job. For the price there isn't a better knife out there. Someone gave me a whole set of different sizes and edges about 10 yrs ago. One by one they went missing and I was only left with one that the tip broke off of....I still use it and it works just as good as it did 10 yrs ago. I bought 2 more last yr and again one disappeared...(starting to get suspicious)! I use this knife so much I just couldn't do with just one so had to order more this year. You won't be disappointed!

Great little knife for the money. Not especially heavy duty but it doesn't need to be. Like most everything else these days will not hold an edge for long with heavy use. Plastic handle is pretty light weight but feels good in the hand. The whole thing really weighs almost nothing- I donlt really even think about it anymore. Used and maintained properly it should last for several years. I also own (and have used for many years) the Victoronox 4" Utility Knife. More or less the same thing but with a different shaped handle. Not fair to really say one is better or more comfortable than the other but they do have completely different feels. I think I prefer the utility knife but that may be because I have become so acustomed to it that if just feels natural. I use it 5 days a week in my job. This was my first try with this paring model and imagine that it will grow on me as well. I assume that like the utility knife, with abuse (like using it as a box knife- oops) the blade could snap and/or the handle could easily break... at no fault of the knife's. I plan to continue to be a repeat customer of Victronix knifes. I received nothing in exchange for this review and paid full price for the item!

Somehow we keep losing our Cutco utility knife -- it happens when you have 5 kids in the house, and it's especially aggravating considering the cost of that brand's knives. So when it went missing again, we got two of these Victorinox knives to try instead. (These two together were just a third the cost of a single Cutco knife!) My wife has been using these for everything, and she loves them! They are extremely sharp, and the blade is thin, which also reduces friction when cutting (making it easier). We've had them about a month now, and so far they haven't required sharpening. That's pretty impressive -- we do a lot of cooking from scratch, and with 7 people in our family, that means a lot of prep work.

I don't know what to say other than "WOW". The weight, sharpness, and balance are almost miraculous. I donated an entire knife block set to Goodwill after getting this (and other Victorinox sizes). You get used to using inferior knives over the years and don't even think about it. But try one of these and realize THIS is what an EXCELLENT knife SHOULD do! If you do a lot of food prep work like I do, you HAVE to try Victorinox. One word of warning: these are incredibly sharp and will slice right through a fingernail; luckily, it was a longer fingernail which resulted in a manicure rather than stitches. I bought a "slicer holder" right away.

For many years now we've been using the old knives Subway used 20 years ago. The good old ones that sliced anything and cut soft tomato's like a razor!!! Well needless to say you can't get those anymore but these are the next best thing!!!! Next? Hell they're every bit as good if not better!!! Buggers are sharp!!!! They slice, they dice, if they did any better you'd have to leave a $20 on the counter everytime you used it!!!! Ok enough of my infomercial and "professional" references.... Lol Seriously these knives rock!!! Loving it and will be ordering more!!! As always I paid full asking price for my knife on Amazon receiving no discounts, compensation, or sexual favors for my review. I simply write honest reviews about items and products I purchase and use to help others make better educated buying decisions. If you found this review helpful please let Amazon and others know by clicking yes however if you didn't please let them know that as well. It is my sincerest hope that I've been able to help someone out! Thanks for reading!!!

This is my 3rd knife by Victorinox. I have a chef's knife, a serrated utility knife, and now this serrated 4" paring knife. I can't say enough about Victorinox knives. I won't be buying any other brand. The reason I bought the 1st knife (chef's) is because of the review on Cook's Country. The chef's knife that was being reviewed is, supposedly, the knife chef's keep going back too. The 2nd review, same show, different episode, was on the paring knife, it supposedly, is the 2nd best knife. I don't care who likes it. I like it. I love the handles. They are so easy to grip. CAREFUL though, because you won't know you've cut yourself until you see the blood.

I am a knife guy, and have many high quality pocket knives out of the latest super steels, and for many things I would hate this knife. It feels cheap, it is a very thin blade with a cheap feeling handle. I would never use this in a knife fight or as a bush knife. For slicing potatoes, tomatoes, or cantelope however this knife rocks. As a blade often gets thicker at the top it introduces drag on what you are slicing, and being razor sharp will not prevent that. This knife starts thin and stays thin so there is almost no drag making this a great slicer as it is barely thick enough to not bend easily. It cuts potatoes and such with ease, so I can keep my 200 dollar pocket knife in my pocket. Just do not try to cut down small trees with it...it is not for that.

Here's a kitchen tool that puts the "ooh!" into utility knife: sharp, well designed, well made, easy to sharpen and affordable. We always keep at least two of these in the kitchen and another in the picnic pack for life's little slicing tasks. And in my wife's hands, it's a formidable paring knife for peeling potatoes and the like. The four-inch blade makes it quite versatile and the quality materials from which it's constructed make it maintenance free and a pleasure to handle. Like any good knife, it deserves proper storage, so don't toss it in a drawer with the odd and ends. We purchased a plastic sheath for the one that goes in our picnic pack and highly recommend them. Victorinox makes some of the best knife bargains around, and this is one of my favorites. It's wicked sharp.

This knife holds an edge well and has a fine blade that does the regular jobs well, plus more delicate tasks like peeling tomatoes or peaches. I have more expensive paring knives, but actually like the Victorinox ones better because they don't have to be sharpened as often and are more versatile.

I mistakenly must have thrown out by long-loved Henckles paring knife. Did not want to pay over $50 again, so ordered this and I am delighted. I realized how dull my other knife was even with my regular sharpening. Has a nice feel to the handle, not slippery; it is lightweight in your hand, and I do love it, my go-to knife for kitchen use. I had previously purchased a large butcher's knife by Victorinox and the sharpness has held up well. I would not hesitate to buy more of these.
