Espresso quality is very good. The amount of Crema is fine. Pulls are very consistent. One of the best things about this machine is it's absolute convenience. Warning! You may end up drinking more espresso because it's so easy to add an extra shot to your morning routine. I also just love to watch it work. It takes about a minute to heat up to operating temperature which beats the 15 minutes of another popular machine. As the instructions say it takes a few tries to get the machine dialed in for your preferred strength and temperature. However once that's done it's smooth sailing. I took the hint from other reviewers and removed the little plastic cap that can reduce the access of coffee beans to the grinder. It took about 30 seconds. Others have also noted that the grate where the coffee cup rests is easily scratched. On my machine that could have happened when you remove the water reservoir. It's kind of a snug fit and it has scraped across the blue plastic protector on the grate. I left the plastic film on until I sorted this out. Now I just remove the grate every time I change out the water reservoir. This machine pleases me a lot. I hate to admit this but I look forward to getting up in the morning just so I can make espresso.

I really weighed the pros and cons of this purchase before-hand, and with this kind of product it's very hard to know how much you should spend for good quality. I'm happy to say I found the sweet spot. I enjoy coffee-shop quality espresso from my home daily. As an Austin coffee snob who turns his nose up at Starbucks espresso in favor of more subtle notes and skilled baristas, my "coffee in a pod" machine just wasn't cutting it anymore. The DeLonghi is the holy grail for me: I can buy locally-roasted beans fresh every week and grind them on-demand, producing a thick and flavorful crema and strong brew. Some quirks and notes: I have my machine set to grind the most beans possible in a shot and use the hottest water, and I'd still describe the espresso as mild (though fantastic). In other words, it's perfect at its strongest setting, but I wouldn't ever brew it weaker. I also go through beans pretty quickly, often brewing a combination of short and long pours totaling 3-4 shots in the morning. The water reservoir doesn't hold much, so be prepared to fill it with filtered water quite often. And lastly, the cleaning cycle: While I love that the machine cleans itself by shooting water through the device every time you turn it on, it also cleans when you turn it off. The extra cleaning means much of my water is simply used to clean the device. It's a little strange to use 20% of your water reservoir just to clean. But hey, it gets 5 stars because I often prefer my own espresso to many of my local shops, it looks beautiful, and all my friends love coming over.

Read all pros and cons of previous reviews and decided this was the machine for us. Have had this for a month and love the simplicity of pressing a button for brewing espresso. Refilling the water, emptying the liquid tray and coffee grounds are measured in seconds. De-scaling/cleaning takes less than 20 minutes. I use the steamer daily and I love it! Wiping it off and running a spritz of water afterwards is not a big deal compared to the fantastically frothed milk it produces in 90 seconds! This is a high quality/minimal user effort required machine. I recommend it.

This espresso maker is somewhat less complex than some similar machines. I think that is a good thing: fewer parts to break; less complex firmware and software perhaps less likely to fail. I've been using it for a few weeks without any glitches. If you want American style coffee, choose "Americano" and program the 2-long-cups button for the size of your smallest coffee mugs. If you prefer strong coffee anyway, just dispense the double lungo into a single big coffee cup. As noted above: controls are less complex, but all the options are really there. Further, the machine seems to be very made. All the moveable parts slide apart and fit back together again very smoothly. There is a little spark sound when one pushes the "ON" button that I find disconcerting, and that I hope does not indicate an impending electrical fault, but other than that this is an excellent machine.

This coffee machine is the best thing since sliced bread. I kept the singe and double espresso buttons, as well as the long single coffee button, all the same; with this machine you can program the number of ounces poured per button, so I programmed the long double coffee to fill my mug. Perfect cup of coffee. Also, this machine is COMPLETELY automatic. Fill it with water and beans and press a button. Beans are ground then pressed, coffee is brewed, and the spent grounds are automatically dumped into the bin, which needs to be dumped in the trash after about 12 brews.

This was our Christmas gift to ourselves, and after three months we still love it. My wife makes a couple cappuccinos each morning, and I'll make a longhi... well really an americano after I add some more hot water. It can be a bit noisy, which since our kitchen is right next to the bedroom means I have to wait until my wife wakes up before I can make espresso. And if I was going to nitpick, I'd say the water reservoir could be larger - but I can't really complain about taking 10 seconds to fill it every second or third day. Nice looking machine, and most importantly the espresso is very good! We've probably paid for it already by avoiding the local Starbucks.

We've been using this machine for about three months and absolutely love it. It makes having an espresso or latte easy and fun. We use it for multiple double espressos every day and have had no major issues. I recommend buying the rescaler and replacement filters to keep up on regular maintenance. The only issue we ran into was when we bought some beans that were a little oily and they clogged the grinder. I had to pull out the manual to figure out the trouble indicator, but it was easy to correct and haven't had any issues since. It's worth the investment if you drink espresso/lattes regularly.

My wife loves this machine. It's actually a functioning replacement for our old Saeco Focus (which is also an excellent machine). It doesn't produce quite the same depth of coffee but it's pretty close. NOTE: By "depth" I'm trying to sound all coffee aficionado. What I really mean is it doesn't have as much punch-you-in-the-gut caffeine. This can be solved with a better roast or a bag of coffee grounds that has a skull-and-crossbones on it. My wife is also a night-shift RN so she *needs* the coffee. The most impressive thing about this machine is the size - it's far smaller than even my old compact Saeco. This thing would be perfect for a motor home, mobile living, or even just the space-conscious and delivers excellent results every time. No failures as of today. Definitely the best choice for the application.

Excellent coffee maker! We had a Jura coffee maker for years, but after the 3rd expensive repair, decided it was time to try another kind. We ordered this De Longhi espress/latte/coffee maker after trying one at a friend's house. Works beautifully, great coffee, love the fact that we can modify the fineness of the grind according to our preferences.

I got this from amazon when they had sales on their refurbished machines. I was skeptical to buy a fully automatic machine for full price but decided to get one when it was pretty cheap. I got it for a price that was similar to a nesspresso machine (I also own). Anyways, the coffee is great. You do have to tinker with the settings but once you get it correct, YUM! Coffee is delicious. I always do a double espresso in the morning and it is the best part of my mornings! I have not had problems with the machine yet and I am very happy with the purchase .
