Im using it as a spot heater on my 3 season back porch. It measures 8ft. by 16 ft. The outside walls have 3 single pane windows on each side with self storing screens and a cheap storm door. Outside of the walls have sheathing covered with vinyl. NO insulation on the open inside walls and has a cement slab floor. This unit throws decent heat on both high and low settings. I keep it about 3 ft from me on the low setting and 4ft on the high setting. It keeps the inside about 20 degrees warmer than the outside temperature. This depends on the outside temp. Its 33 out right now and it shows 53 inside. It takes a while to get there. This unit would be IDEAL for any indoor area that has little or no heat (ex.work bench area, laundry area, bathroom etc.) I guess I have 2 options.. 1. Continue using as a spot heater. 2. Bite the bullet and get insulated windows, storm door and insulate inside walls. Right now going with option 1. until I see what it does for the rest of our Michigan winter. This units thermostat is exactly what the manual says. Accurate on automatic with plus 2 degrees and minus 1 degree of the setting. I would recommend it for the above rooms . The jury is still out on my porch

i have lived with a wood stove for the past ten years for my primary heat, and thus have had cause to review m any heaters as i have found that many of the ones that have a thermostat don't last more than two seasons. i cant speak to the longevity as i have only had it for 3 months now but it does work good, look good, and it lives up to its description. Pros: -looks good and is not "clunky" like a lot of other heaters -its thermostat has a 3-4 degree switch (at least mine does) which means if you set it at 65 it doesnt come on until it reaches 61-62. this works great for me because i hate it when these things go on off every ten minutes. - the cabinet stays pretty cool and the unit overall seems to be very safe, i leave it on when i leave the house. - the casters are nice and it slides around very easily, i really like that it fits under a table i have and tucks in nicely. Cons: -really none so far

I have had two of these for about six years...just bought another. No issues at all and living in New England these come in handy with bitter temperatures. They are reliable, durable, and produce a lot of heat. They will however jack up your electric bill if you run them hard.

This space heater is a money saver for my wife and I. We live in an older home (built in the 1890's) and have made many upgrades so that it is technically current. Even so, as we all know, energy costs are trying to eat incomes as if they are meals. We have an Oil Furnace, hot air heating system. Since our home was built pre-electricity, furnace, etc., all our rooms have their own doorways, so we can turn our thermostat way down and use an electric space heater to heat up the room we're using and stay comfortable. We had other space heaters, but they weren't efficient and used allot of electricity, where this on is much more technically efficient, eg. the fan has different speeds which change as the room heats up (10-15 min.). The heater's thermostat also is more exacting, so when the room is set at say 70, the heater coil turn off at 70. This heater, however would not be good for very large area. Smaller areas, good, larger areas, not good.

have dr. heater already, worked very well at keeping downstairs above furnace thermostat setting the majority of the time AFTER i used emergency heat to get room temp to 72.. Beforehand dr.heater ran nonstop for almost two days and would not get temp downstairs over 67 (temps outside were under 40, even our heat pump could not do so).. I felt comfortable leaving it on auto settings at all times, nothing on it gets hot except where heat comes out. great heater, this comming cold season i plan on turning it on before house gets too cold for it is great at maintaining house temp and this should avoid furnace needing to heat up house first.. Also our furnace went from comming on at least 2-3 times an hour to only 4-5 times a day with this on!! anyhow this Iliving heater IS a dr.heater (the customer service email label on cabinet clearly says dr.heaterusa on it). it is basically the 968 dr.heater version listed as a 918 iliving version, both are the same with minor difference in cabinet look and buttons types, everything else is same and works the same.. Knowing ahead of time this here one was more than likely a dr. heater with a different name (like many other china made items often are), i grabbed it when price was $55, i paid $90 for dr. heater on sale which is often listed around $125 so this here $55 heater is an awesome deal and well worth grabbing one.. Although it is too hot where i live to test how well this iliving works, it did turn on properly, buttons all worked fine and the 5 minutes i tested the heat settings on it, it all worked as should and heat was just like my dr.heater so i foresee no future problems with it.. The cabinet is more of a medium darkish walnut color (much prettier than my orangy dr.heater cabinet actually) and the design of the cabinet i received is different than shown in pic, the front bottom area has a design look to it (strips of woods going accross) which is much nicer looking than pic IMO. Updated: used this iliving heater downstairs set at 68 between living room & dinninf/kitchen area, used the dr. heater one, set at 62, upstairs in our drafty master bedroom and we set our furnance at 65 degrees...from around late September till currently late march (still getting cold out), our furnance has only come on SIX times for less than 5mins each time! these heaters (mainly the iliving which heated up main part of house) kept up extremely well even though our house is not perfectly insulated and instead of getting constant $280-$325 electric bills during winter times, we got all bills under $200 with only one being $214 this past winter..extremely happy with my purchase! NOTE: After two winters, i can say that these heaters work best when they are 12-24" off the floor, that is how we used them this last winter/cold season and like i mentioned our furnance rarely turned on all season. **bought another for $53 this june, it will make a wonderful xmas gift that will actually be useful!** update: hmm the xmas gift ended up being kept and used by us lol. i place this one in my kitchen/dinning area near back door and set it at 68 and the other two in same places as before. our furnace did not come on even once all winter/cold season and our electric bills never went over $200 and it would of been lower i do believe had we not also started running a purifier and a humidifier upstairs as well.

This is the second unit I have purchased. The first I bought in December along with a similar product from my local Lowes store. The iLIVING outperformed ten fold. Didn't think I would bother with the remote but it is delightful luxury to read in bed and then turn down the temp without having to walk across the room. I also like the fact that the heat is emitted from the upper portion of the front of the unit rather than at the floor. Very light weight so moving from room to room is easy and the wheels make it easy to spin around and face whatever direction my elderly retriever mix happened to crash for bed time. Electricity usage is acceptable, it costs (in upstate South Carolina with average winter p.m. temp of 35) $80 a month to keep a 30 x 30 ft room with 2 (3 window) bay windows and 10 foot ceiling) at 60 degrees. another plus is the soft sound when it's running and that is extremely safe around pets (nearly impossible to knock over.) The only downside is the length of time it takes to heat the room from a cold start. I use it as my primary heat source in the above referenced room and when it is 40 outside it takes an average of 1.5 hours to get the room to 60. But when I placed two units in the room, it was toasty in less than 30 minutes. I highly recommend this item.

I purchased this heater for the living room, kitchen and dining room portion of my house (about 500 sq-ft). I was trying to avoid using my old inefficient natural gas heater. This little guy works like a champ. I set the thermostat on the iLiving heater to 68 and let the test begin. Not only did I save money on my gas bill but I felt that the air quality in my rooms also felt better. There is something to the infrared heat, it somehow makes the air in the room feel better then the forced air out of the traditional heater in my house. I cannot speak to how this heater will work in larger areas, but I used this heater for a full fall & winter 24/7 and had zero problems with the quality or performance of the heater. For the price compared to other units I looked at this guy was a steal!

I saw some negative reviews talking about how the heater would not heat 1000 sq ft. I think that it depends on how cold it is and other factors about your situation. This one keeps about 800 sq ft warm enough so that I don't have to run the central heat so much. I have a 2 story house with one heater and the thermostat upstairs. All the heat goes upstairs and the living room stays chilly. So I keep the upstairs at 68 and use this heater to warm up the 800 sq ft living room downstairs. Therefore the heater is not the oinlyt heater for the entire area. At 30 degrees F outside, the little heater will make us quite comfortable downstairs. So for my application this is just great. Therefore I am sure I will have a cost savings on utility bills and a much more comfortable downstairs area. I give it 5 starts for meeting my needs. Now lets see how many years it will last. Oh BTW I just ordered another one for the master bath. BRRR...

UPDATE: I attempted buying another of this heater via an ebay listing of OJCommerce, the same vendor that is listing this heater on Amazon for under $130. The purchase price shown there was $133 and an inventory of more than 10 units. My credit card was charged, my order confirmed. Next morning, the vendor cancelled my order, refunded my money and RAISED THE PRICE to $185 or so - still showing more than 10 in stock. BE VERY WARY. I purchased this unit in 2014 and found that it wass a bit more compact than my other similar heater; but because it was smaller, I was able to place it beneath an end table, thus ensuring space around it. My only complaint, although it is really a safety feature, is that the power to the unit must be turned on and off manually; the remote will NOT activate the power switch. Once the unit has been activated, however, the remote works quite well in adjusting settings and modes of operation.

My apartment has large, old electric heaters built into the wall. They are loud and produce a heat that dries you out to the point of needing eye drops every night. Since using the iLiving heater we have not needed to use the built in heaters. The heat produced is warm and does not dry us out at all. It has a smart thermostat that regulates temp but also has high/low settings when you want it to run continuously. Plus there is a timer which comes in handy at night or when you want to come home to a warm house. The wood casing is solid and seems well built. The wheels are a very nice touch. Our living room/kitchen is approximately 700 sq ft and this heater warms the entire room up nicely. Great value and quality product, I would purchase again.
