This is one of those idiotic stories -- we moved into our house 30 years ago and sometime after a few years I installed a patio door security bar purchased from a local hardware store (remember, this was nearly 30 years ago). I won't detail the whole design but it had a tiny metal thumb knob you had to twist to release the bar which then would fall and make a loud clunking sound. That's not the idiotic part -- the idiot part is that this stupid knob fell off every single time you walk near the door -- no matter what time of year it was. Every day, several times a day, you had to hunt for this stupid piece of metal that would constantly fall into the patio door track. Any every bloody year, I swore I'd fix it . . . (cue sound of clock ticking and crickets chirping . . .). Yeah. Finally, I bought this one after considerable research. Installation was a breeze, it works as advertised and glory of glories no more hunting for that stupid knob because it doesn't even have one. I'm happy. The wife's happy. The kids are grown and gone now but they're happy for us and the cat's pretty down with it, too.

Arrived fast and was easy to install with just a drill and a screwdriver (careful not to drill or screw into the glass - stay shallow). Works great as described. After installation, I still wondered if that little button pinch system could really stand up to any real force if someone took a crowbar to my sliding door. I'm not willing to test it out to that extent, but I can say it holds up under my putting my 200 lb.+ weight against it with a good yank or two - didn't budge. I guess anyone who really wanted in would at least have to make enough noise to upset the dog, and they'd probably just move to another entry and pop that open anyway. So I'd say this serves its purpose quite well. I considered butchering it with the drill to put a hole clear through the shaft and inserting a screw or pin to really hold it, but that would probably weaken it to the point it would just fold with any force. So I'm happily using it as designed, knowing it has a very strong hold. Great product.

Thick and solid aluminum construction with strong locking mechanism. Was easy to cut down and modify to work with my smaller size sliding door with a removable dog door insert. All I needed was about 15" to firmly lock the door in place and bar need to be modified to fit. DIY: Remove the bolt from the hinge and cut both inner/outer rods at the same time to 12" from the hinge end. (Cutting both bars to 12" gives you about 22" in total usable adjustable length) Drill a new hole at the end of the bar and reconnect hinge with a new bolt to the bar. Mount on door and you’re done. Use the install directions that it comes with to measure your sliding door for the needed length to firmly lock the door in place with a dog door insert and cut the bare about 2 to 3" shorter than the needed length for the bar to be adjustable.

Works great. Did not have to do any modifications to unit. Sliding glass door is a little bit narrow, because of doging door on the sliding glass door. The safety bars at Home Depot are to long cannot be modified. This bar is just like in the description has a greater variable in shortness. But still locks at the same point, and has a greater variable to lock at different points, for opening purposes. Size opening is a bit smaller size than you would expect. We have a 13 pound Maltese, and a medium size unit. He fits throughjust perfect but I wish it was just a hair bigger.

Received package on time, or maybe even before the promised date. I cannot remember. Anyway, installation was easy and once you have the length of the bar dialed in, putting it up and down is so easy. It is so much better than having to bend down to remove the piece of 1X1 wood out of the way. I have indoor and outdoor cats that love to make you get up and open the door. When at home, I usually just leave it in the upright position. It has been a couple of months and has not lost the ability to stay where you leave it. I have forgotten that it has been in the locked position and when attempting to open the door, realize that it is locked because the door will not move. I am much happier now and the device works wonderfully. I highly recommend.

i bought one of those pet doors that fit in your sliding glass door or in the sliding screen door. the pet door does not seem sturdy at all to serve as a permanent fixture for the sliding glass door so I installed it as a permanent fixture for the sliding screen door. I wanted to be able shut and lock my sliding glass door at night but during the day have my sliding glass door ajar so my dog could use the pet door through the screen door. this adjustable security door allows me to keep the door ajar and securely in place so a passerby would have difficulty forcing the sliding glass door open larger and then also works when my sliding glass door is fully shut for additional security aside from the latch. in the end if they want to get into your house they will. it was easy to install, not overly expensive, and provides some peace of mind and function.

Works great! Installation was easy and since it's adjustable there's nothing to trim or cut. We use this on the patio door at our lake house, and couldn't be happier with the quality and ease of installation. Took me about five minutes, ten if you count putting the tools away. I used a drill with a Phillips bit and was installing into vinyl. No pilot hole were needed. Wood would probably be just as easy, but aluminum might take a few minutes longer since pilot holes would likely be required. It is extremely simple to engage and disengage the lock. I would definitely recommend and would not hesitate to buy this product again.

Perfect way to ensure the security of your home. We installed this after we moved in and feel more secure. Fairly easy to install, you make have to pre-drill pilot holes if you're drilling into the metal frame of the door. The bar can adjust to meet the width of your door, which is great! This bar makes it so a sliding door can't be opened from the outside. There's even a metal tab that holds the bar in place in case children are around or someone is trying to pop the bar off. Very easy to pop down when leaving your home. Great product!

This is a perfect for two scenarios here at our house. We have always been apprehensive about leaving the sliding door partially ( 4 inches or so) open overnight for ventilation, and we also recently bought ( on Amazon ) an eight foot tall Tall Patio Pet Door. Now the sliding door can be secured in either scenario, with ease, and security. I mounted it differently than what the standard instructions for any of these types of devices call for. Usually you mount the end with the rotating bracket in the door jam/ frame, and locking saddle on the door edge. I found that with the pet door in place, I could use a stiff coat hanger, reach between the sliding door and the stationary glass and lift the bar, thus allowing me to slide the door open. So, I mounted the rotating bracket on the door edge and the locking saddle inside the jam/frame of the sliding door. This makes it next to impossible to lift the bar and gain access from the outside. To make it even more secure, I attach a small, inexpensive window lock directly above the saddle bracket, which completely locks the bar into place! There is no way it can be lifted out of place! (see photos). Let's talk about leaving the sliding door open at night for ventilation. First of all, you only want to leave it open 4-5 inches, basically no more than the width of the space between stair balusters. Any more than that, some skinny kid could find his way into your house (and at my house be on the wrong end of a Remington 870). When the bar is set into place with the door open, you can try to push and push and push the door open, but it simply won't budge. And, if the person tries to close the door in a (futile) attempt to try and release the mechanism, they will fail, as the bar will re lock instantly in the new, longer position. Brilliant design!

As a House Wife/ stay at home mom. Learning how to use the tools. this was pretty Easy to install myself! I think what helped me the most was watching the Youtube video on how to install it. and It did not take a whole lot of time to install at all!!. I mainly got this product to prevent my Lil one from opening the door as she tends to forget it open. and to Prevent Strangers from breaking in. As a Renter. As our family moved in the Owners repaired the wall and thought it would save them money (or something by adding this sliding door.) So it always makes me more paranoid. Anyways... As a added security since my lil one is older than a toddler and can easily figure this out. I have also purchased a Door alarm (that will be installed at the Very top of the door) that comes with a key fob (which will be hidden away from child's reach). so if she opens the door at anytime... I will know.
