Pretty sturdy. Wanted some cheap extra insurance for our basement back door and I think this does the trick. Fair price too. For reference I used size 14 three inch screws. Needs a 1/8 in drill bit size for the pilot holes.

First off, as some have had some issues, this is for one bar! I would not buy two of these. For your best installation option you need to buy one other item with this. the closed one. Here is a link as well.

Increase your security, July 14, 2014 By Steve Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: National Mfg. N235291 Closed Bar Holder For Use With 2x4 For doors, Zinc (Tools & Home Improvement) After the recent home invasion I decided to increase my security in every way possible. I live in a very upscale area in Henderson,NV. My front door was kicked in while I was home and armed. I saw that the hinges were the weakest hardware on the door. My contractor informed me that the rear door for the gargage was one second most attacked object, after the sliding patio glass doors. We examined the door and we were able to see that it had been forced open in the past. I ordered 2 sets of these 2x4 holders. They are mounted between the 3 hinges. One half way down between the highest and middle hinge. The other between the middle hinge and the lowest hinge. It does require that you cut out a section of molding to allow the 2x4 to side in and out. It does require 8 inch 5/16 cartridge bolts to fasten from the outside wall to the inside. The holes in the brackets are only 1/4 inch. Drill them open and I used large washers on the outside. I sure that a SWAT team coud not open this door now. This part was used with the closed bar holder as a pair.

Sturdy and cheap. There is no better way to add some security to your doors that might not be used as often. I installed this on a back garage door that I really only use when we're hosting people on our deck. I don't remember if this came with screws, but I'd suggest drilling some pilot holes and using some lag bolts. If someone wants to break in that door, they're going to have to use a battering ram and make one heck of a racket. By that point they'd probably have already regretted the decision to break into my house. I used this in conjunction with the National Mfg closed bar holder. I also added a screw with the head sticking out so if someone wanted to try and jiggle the 2x4 loose, its not going to move because the screw head will hit the open bar holder and not allow the 2x4 to slip out of the closed bar holder.

Very sturdy, more so than I expected. Perfect for securing a door. I used the closed one on one side, and the open one on the other, thinking that it would be harder to remove the bar with closed ones on both sides, and that the closed one would be sturdier than the open one. I am happy with what I did, but in hindsight, open ones on both sides would be sufficient. The open one is strong enough.

It does look cheap but this metal is strong. I weigh 185 and placed on concretete to bend, after I jumped and stood on it while bouncing still no bend. It will definently work for front and garage doors.

Great product. I would definitely buy these again to prevent break-ins. The installation was very easy as I measured and marked where the holes were, pre-drilled, and then screwed in with 2” wood screws. Now I am very secure in my home.

Study holder and allowed 2x4 to fit nicely as one of 3 locking mechanisms on my fence gate. The device was too pricey though

I bought these to install inside our tornado shelter to avoid having to drill a hole in the steel door for a deadbolt. Since they haven't been tornado tested, I'm only speculating to their durability. However, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say these are perfect for what I need.

Used this along with an closed bar braket to make a door barrier using a 2x4 sanded and painted to match the front door color and trim color so when its up, it blends in well. Don't think anyone's going to knock down, home invade, etc. Also have a large 8" bolt at top of door along with standard lock and deadbolt. Nowadays can 't be too safe.
