Despite what some people are saying this is a very high quality file. I have used it quite a few times and it still sharpens just as well as when first received. I suspect some people are saying it's not high quality because either they are using the less aggressive side of the file or are not cleaning it out with a brush in between sharpening's I expect to get many years out of this file and it is well worth the money.

It get's the job done, it's a Nicholson file, it costs less than $7, and has free shipping. This file is a hell of a deal. Is it the best hand file i own? Definitely not. However, it's good enough quality to get the job done (keeps my machete really sharp). At this price, it's affordable to keep a dedicated hand file with a specific specific tool. For sharpening a machete, this axe file works so much better than a sharpening stone.

Great file... the built in handle does not add any thickness to the file... I keep mine in my machetes sheath.... it fits perfectly. I use it on my Machete, my ax and on rare occasion, my bowie knife. Make sure to pack a brass bristle brush also to keep the file clean or the file will load up and not work as well..

This file is really great for sharpening your tools or weapons such as, a hatchet, axe, pruning shears, large knives, machete's, large wire cutters etc. It is a fine textured file. Not coarse. Well made for the money! You'll like it.

It put the final touches just fine sharpening my lawnmower blade. For $8.50 why not give it 5 stars...

Very good file. Used on my dull axe along with the Lansky stone. Sharp sharp!!!!!! Just split wood with it. Effortless....

Now I know what they ment. A great file can't be beat...... This file sharpened my new cold steel Axe. In twenty minutes it had the edge I wanted and even better than I hoped.

This is the only file I have used other than a shoe rasp so I cant compare the quality to other brands but I sharped 2 axes and filed down my makeshift punch that was mushrooming. The files did everything that I expected it to do I also achieved hair shaving sharp edge on my true temper flit edge Kelly works axe head (which was at least 3 times as harder than the other double bit axe head) with just the file and a strop with compound.

Bought a re-worked used model. Perfect. Has held up with no signs of wear after using it to sharpen 3 axes and 2 machetes. I prefer using this file in conjunction with a puck stone. Many other methods remove too much metal. I only go to a motor driven grinding disk if there is deep chip in the blade.

As soon as I received this file, I used it on my camping axe. I wanted to hone down the edge some and to get ride of the hump at the upper part of the edge. It only took me less then five minutes to accomplish this.
