I am a novice when it comes to jewelry making as I bought some tools just to fix a ring that had gotten bent. I am super impressed with this mandrel. It is a nice, heavy weight. Nothing cheap about this mandrel. It held my ring perfectly as the bent part of the metal was pounded out and made round again.

Bought this for wire wrapping rings and hammering on. It's strong, heavy and works great. Came wrapped up and oiled. I didn't know steel needed to be oiled (to prevent rust, apparently) so that part seemed a little weird to me when I opened it, but my boyfriend said that's normal. He also said I should re-oil it after each use/before storing, but that seems like a hassle so I'm going to do without and see how it goes. If I were being really picky I would say the grooves are too deep and the painting of the black handle is sloppy and unnecessary. But it's a mandrel! Way better than the plastic ones.

Terrific mandrel - very very solid. A tip for beginning coin-ring-makers (of which I am one) - you will need a half-inch hole to start with. I made mine only 3/8" and so the coin wouldn't fit over the mandrel. No big deal - I just enlarged the hole a bit. Just a tip for other noobs... This is a high-quality tool, and will probably be the only mandrel I ever need to buy.

Solid mandrel, comes pre-oiled for long lasting rust proofing. The size markings are accurate when tested. Would buy again, but this thing is so well built I will never need another mandrel.

This is perfect for making coin rings. Heavy duty steel. It has enough weight to it that you can beat it pretty good and it wont dent. They do come packed in a coat of oil to prevent rust. This wipes off easy enough. Do be aware this is untreated steel and will rust on its own just from normal atmospheric moisture so take the correct precautions (i use a coat of johnsons paste wax once in a while) handle is knurled and provides excellent grip. My only beef was that the narrow end is a bit to nig for my taste. I have to drill 1/4" holes in my coins just to get them started. Not a huge deal but just something to be aware of.

I just got this in the mail today and I was extremely pleased to see that I got one with the trademark, especially since that was not the experience some buyers had listed here. The mandrel is Heavy, clearly steel, not aluminum and it is smooth and clearly marked. As I have not had metal on it yet, i cannot say if it gets marked up, but assuming I truly got the real product I think I'm in the clear. If I find otherwise I will update my report. Thank you so much to the sellers, this is just what I needed and is so much better than the aluminum & plastic carried by my 3 local craft & hobby shops. very competitively priced as well.

The mandrel is substantial, smooth, appears to be well made and built to last. It is indeed unmarked and ungrooved, which is fantastic, b/c you can hammer away and not worry about any mandrel marks transferring onto your work. To achieve accurate sizing, I just use a separate cheap plastic ring mandrel to pull wire to correct size/ general shape, then do my hammering on this ungrooved mandrel. Periodically, I'll pop the ring back on the grooved one to be sure I'm on target w/ size. It meet all expectations, I'm loving it. This is a must have for jewelry makers IMO. Very pleased with this seller! Fair price and excellent product. Thanks!

This is a heavy ring mandrel and the markings are not easy to read. But, I bought this to use to help straighten out of round rings. For that purpose this mandrel works great. I use a small rawhide hammer and with a bit of patience you can easily round out ring shanks. I will continue to use my plastic sizing stick for checking sizes, but this is my go to for the rings that need a bit of reworking. It also comes in a nice storage tube as well, nice touch.

I've only used this a few times so far, and it's worked great. We've used it to reshape a ring, and to make a ring a size larger with a rubber mallet. It did the job perfectly each time. I've also used it to shape a handstamped ring, that was a bit more of a hassle and would require a stand for the mandrel to work the best. It does smell, and is greasy but that is just a warning, not a negative. I expected that.

This item is absolutely wonderful! It is VERY heavy, solid, on the mark. Does NOT have a decal with measurements that can shift, peel or had been placed on the shaft incorrectly. These measurements are engraved into the item. BEAUTIFUL!
