By default, this shows as a USB keyboard and when scanning something will input the text and then hit enter. I found that the instruction booklet had a code to enable serial, which I did, and was able to replace the USB cable with a cut Ethernet cable and determine the pinout (it's 10pin RJ45 on the scanner end but the outer pints appear unused). I have my Raspberry Pi reading this via serial using a custom build interface cable and the RXD UART GPIO input. Obviously this is probably not what other people are doing with it but it's pretty robust and not to difficult to convert to a serial reader. I did have problems with the carriage return character while using serial, but luckily there was a code to scan to disable that too! Lots of scannable codes to turn various features on and off.

Works great!

What a work saver. We had a project in the warehouse that required us to copy serial numbers from cell phones to an excel spreadsheet. I had no experience with bar code scanners but thought it was worth a try. I received this item, plugged it into a laptop, placed the curser in the right box in Excel and scanned it and it worked. No time to setup or CD's to load. Saved us so many hours and mistakes. Less than a minute to set up. Thank you, Thank you. Thank you!

Wow

I work as an Instructional Material Technician for a school district. I scan all kinds of different barcodes in different formats, in varying lighting conditions, and this scanner works better than the $400 scanners my district used to buy from our textbook inventory control provider. I can scan at least 120 books per minute with this bad boy, with 100% accuracy (so far anyway). Plus this comes with a base? I am sold. We're buying a few dozen of these for our school sites based on my experience.

Up and running faster than opening the package!

This scanner was perfect. It worked right out of the box. I plugged this into my Macbook Air 2015 and in 20 seconds I was scanning away! The scanning was flawless on barcodes from books and DVDs. I'm glad I purchased this instead of the more expansive brands. Pro: Plug and Play The base has some weight so it won't tip over. The scanner has automatic sensing so no need to touch the scanner while on the base. Con: Manual need a major updating - Not user friendly Summary: Is this the best scanner on the market? No, but it certainly is one of the most practical and easy to use. I been using this since Feb 2016 without any issues.

What a time saver !

I use this to scan upc barcodes to list and search items items on Amazon and Ebay. SOOOO much better than hand keying. What a time saver. Just plug it into your pc usb and go. No setup required.

Easy setup and use

It only took me a couple of minutes to set this up on Windows 10, no driver disk needed. Scans fast and accurately.

What Customer Service Should Be!

Bought 8 of these for my office, and they were delivered to me quickly. Upon checking the manual, i noticed that the barcodes for adding a suffix to each scan was missing, so I contacted their customer service via email. They are located overseas, so I did not receive a reply until the next day. However, they were extremely helpful and supportive, and resolved my issue within a couple of emails. They provided me a single barcode to scan, which added the entire suffix to the scanners, as opposed to some other models, which requires the scanning of multiple barcodes to achieve the same result. This made programming the 8 guns a breeze, and we have been up and running since. The scanners themselves are plug-and play, lightweight, and easy to use. I would recommend the TaoTronics brand to anyone, for quick shipping, excellent customer service, and high quality products!

It work fine different barcode code. Good presentation and secure box. I used in gas station work for long time and it work excellent.
