Another good Wixley tool
I purchased this tool based on the excellent results I have had with a Wixey digital angle gauge. It is unfortunate that Wixey continues to use a CR 2032 button cell to power the gauge when their new Type 2 angle gauge uses a more available AAA battery. On the height gauge, access to the battery is from a slide-out tray in the top of the tool making the battery relatively easy to change. Unfortunately, unlike the Type 2 angle gauge, the readout on the height gauge is not back-lighted. The height gauge is very repeatable, even after having been turned off, then back on and making the same measurement. I would recommend this tool. The supplier shipped this tool quickly and packaging was very good. Their price was highly competitive.

Features not explained
1). This includes the battery, a CR2032 2). This includes the pointy tip which can be attached to read into the bottom of a channel or dado or other narrow spot (see pics)

Useful low cost tool
I would recommend this tool with the caveat that it won't give you precision down to the 0.001 inch. It's made of plastic and it's not like a caliper where there is a thumb wheel to make micro adjustments when trying to dial up a width to set a router bit distance from fence or height, for example. There seems to be play of a few thousandths that cannot be controlled as there is occasionally some slight drift when tightening the locking screw. If being off by 0.003" or 0.002" is ok with you then this will serve you well. I would buy it again.

Very Useful!
This thing is very nice to have! I'm rating it on what it is - a niche product. Can you get accurate enough results with a steel rule? For woodworking, yes. My rule of thumb is that a piece is close enough to the measurement when I can't say how far it's off using a nominal fraction. So for me that's +/- .015 and this instrument is more than capable of accomplishing that. My only gripe is that the end of the rule is plastic so cutting edges can dig in. That said, I can see myself making a stainless end cap with a setscrew later on if I find the end starts showing wear. Where this thing shines is setting the distance from your router fence to the cutting edge. Really that's what makes this product worth the investment. The hobbyist will benefit from this even more as some of the lower end routers and table saws will have inserts that aren't adjustable and/or sit below the top of the table making straight steel rule measurements inaccurate. You can always compensate, but for the price of this tool and the fact it doubles as a bore depth gauge I see no reason not to have one of these in your toolbox.

If you are doing presision woodworking you need to have one of these!
I use to just use a ruler or just eyeball it, but while building a bookcase I had to cut a large amount of Dados, rabbets and grooves and they all had to be right on the money to get the quality end product I wanted. Between this and a good set of calipers my cuts are right on the mark. Corners and dado are tight and everything fits just the way it is suppose to! If you are working with a router, table saw or even a drill press, I would recommend you have one of these in your shop.

Does its thing and does it well.
I bought this for setting table saw and router cutting depth. It's really pretty dead-on accurate as you would hope and expect. I'd be happier if it were made of polished titanium and encrusted with diamonds. But I wouldn't be happier paying for that. Therefore, this is the best model at the best price, and I'm totally satisfied. It provides both absolute and incremental positioning modes so you can work from the table or fence or relative to the cutting edge. Great stuff!

The accuracy is great
This item had been on my wishlist for some time now. I had used an analog version, metal ruler, drawn lines but could not get an accurate cut. This then required sanding the pieces being joined but that made the thicknesses different and ugly. With this I can do a setup and it is spot on and no additional sanding is required.. I wish I had bought it sooner.

Highly accurate and repeatable measures
This tool is very accurate. The specifications say that it is accurate to +/- .1 mm. I tested it with an iGaging digital micrometer. The iGaging measured the item at 0.86 mm. This device measured it at 0.85 mm. The iGaging device has been recently calibrated, so I know it's accurate. I'm also very happy with the repeatability of the tool. I turned it on and off three times, and re-measured the item. It measured it the same each time. It also has a retracting small rod to measure depth of countersunk items.

Surprisingly sophisticated little tool
Setting the depth on a router is always a problem because the hole in the router's base plate is too large to allow accurate measuring of the tool tip to the router base. The same is true when setting the depth of a dado cut. The Wixey depth gauge solves depth measuring problems. The span of the feet allows straddling the router's base plate hole or a table saw's throat plate opening so that the ruler's edge is directly over the bit or blade. The gauge's legs even have small magnets embedded in the feet so that the gauge will stand upright by itself in applications where the base is a ferrous metal. This feature, along with the thumbscrew lock on the gage allows hands-free for adjusting the cutting tool bit or blade. The digital readout is large enough to be clearly seen to avoid misreading. For slot measuring the Wixey gauge comes with a plastic needle that extends the measuring blade beyond the gauge's feet. Although there are no instructions included in the unit's packaging a free downloadable pdf instruction sheet is available on Wixey's web site. This is a great little tool - well worth it's $25 price.

Stop guessing and get it right the first time.
This is a Jim Dandy little tool for precise settings of how deep your table saw is going to cut. It is very easy to use and eliminates the guess factor completely. I use it now every time I cut a dado with my table saw and I get precise depths. It can be used on your router table as well to get your cut depth and distance from your fence. It also can be used to measure the depth of drilled holes 1/4" and larger, using the included attachment. All in all, it is a sweet little addition to my precision tools at a very affordable price. I am happy with my purchase and I bet you will be also. Battery included !
