Okay, so I have searched, researched and researched, read numerous comments, compared prices of similar products and these were not what I expected. They are soooooo cute and made of a card board like material that I think will hold up well! My 4 1/2yr old loved the look and that she can pop the lid off the cans - so did I! I only wish that there were pieces made to go inside them that came from M&D. Some of the reviews that i read stated that they wished M&D made the cans to be like the other wood food items that the company make, well I purchased the other items Fridge Food and Pantry Food sets and some of the pieces are can food items. If the company made the to be the same way, i think that not only would they be too heavy, but may cause serious injury. The soup can that came with the pantry set feels a tad bit heavy in weight that all the other items and in compairing that to hollowing it out, the thickness, and design of the product, i think it was maybe a good idea to stick with the cardboard-like material. Overall, I love the concept behind this product!

These are plastic canned good toys. I bought these as an early Christmas gift for my daughter (22mo) so that she can pretend to be like mommy with her shopping cart. These can with stand throwing and rough play by toddlers. The labels are very realistic which has helped keep my toddler safe because she is not trying to play with real cans. I really love these and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and how realistic they are.

These cans are awesome! They are super light yet somehow able to withstand crushing. My toddler is very rough and loves to crush, throw, bite, and just generally abuse his toys and these have withstood it all. They still look brand new almost 2 months later.

I am so glad I purchased this set. They have plastic lids that can be removed and realistic labels. I had to read each one as there are funny comments in the ingredients and tips areas. A fun detail for parent& s and older kids. I have found these to be very durable and my daughter that is 17 months likes to hide surprises or small items in her cans. She also puts items in them and shakes them like musical instruments - multi-purpose grocery cans! I feel that Melissa & Doug company did s great job in designing these cans and they are very durable. I highly recommend them - they are made in China so some parents steer away from them. This is the only downside - however your little shopper is bound to love these fun toys!

These are so cool. They open and are stiff enough for toddlers to play with and not ruin. The lids all fit in tight enough to hide things in there and play, but easy enough for a 3 year old to open. We try to find plastic foods to match and put them in, which makes it fun. Kids are funny and will put other things in that are supposed to be in can foods, and laugh. They stack nice and look "real" to engage pretend play.

I almost didn't buy this product because the fact that it was made from cardboard was off putting. My kids are hard on their toys and we usually go with wooden products for longevity, but the price was great and I preferred these to the plastic options. I am so glad I took a chance on them! They actually are very sturdy and high quality and we love that they are cans of vegetables and fruit and not processed foods for the most part! The lids have a nice tight fit and they're just the perfect little size for small hands. Well designed labels and my kids love the fact that they can really put things inside each can to store or "cook". Really just a fantastic addition to any kitchen or play food set.

Quality, sturdy cardboard construction with colorful graphics. Lids have a slight protruding side tab that makes them very easy to grip and pull open or pop open with the push of a thumb. I filled our food cans with various color coordinated trinkets (like red beads for cherries, green and orange fuzzy/felt craft balls for peas and carrots, etc.) So my 3 year old can spoon them out of the cans into her bowls and pots, but they’d be just as entertaining with a child’s imagination being the only fillers... Lots of fun and the perfect size for small hands to grip easily while “cooking”. They’re big enough to seem realistic and hold quite a bit of beads, marbles, dry beans, etc while stacking neatly and fitting in our miniature play kitchen cabinet with plenty of room to spare. Great addition to our little kitchen.

Melissa & Doug products are all we buy...for business use and personal use. You can't beat the quality and you can't beat the price. Nothing compares to this play food and it's construction or the thought that went behind making each and every piece... we've had some sets for a long time and they look brand new ... I'm hooked! Melissa and Doug ALL THE WAY! You won't be sorry!

These were a good deal for the price. They are very thick cardboard with removable lids. I think the cans should last for awhile. You would have to care for them though. You cannot leave them on the floor where they will be stepped on and crushed. Kids may be tempted to put real food in the cans but this would ruin them unless the food was in wrappers. Like we let my son put individually wrapped candies in them. He also likes to rip paper into small pieces and put them in there. These cans aren’t for children who still put things in their mouth because they wouldn’t last. My son loves playing pretend with them. I would highly recommend them.

My son loves to 'help' while I cook dinner. Sometimes this is fun and I don't mind having him up at the counter with me. Sometimes though mommy is in a hurry, or cooking with hot oil, and he needs to help in other ways - like making the perfect side dish to compliment dinner with his mellisa and doug toys! He LOVES all of his toys from the kitchen set, and will make all sorts of delicious concoctions to serve to me. These toys are definitely worth the purchase!
