I am 75 and have trouble with my wrists both holding jars and twisting tops. So far, this Hamilton Beach jar opener has opened several jars flawlessly for me, from a small jelly jar to a peanut butter jar to a large marinara sauce jar. I sent a HB jar opener to my cousin who has wrist issues as well. She has used her opener and is excited to have it. Thanks much, Hamilton Beach! Just wish this item were made in the USA. I do recommend this brand of jar opener.

TRULY AMAZING

I have a problem with my hands (osteoarthritis) that makes it very difficult to open jars and bottles. This was the best surprise present my husband so thoughtfully gave me for Christmas! Watching it in action was a sight we all gathered around. No matter what the size, it opens the jars with complete ease, and then releases the lid. It was like a toy at first because no one could believe their eyes. Everyone that saw it wants one!!!!! It is also very easy to use. I would give this ***** 5 stars and recommend that every household have one!

Brought my mother to tears

What a great product. I bought this just before christmas as a stocking stuffer for my mom, however the reaction I received was entirely unexpected. I thought this gift a useful little tool to help her open jars because of arthritis and other issues with her hands. As soon as she opened this up and read what it was, she started crying. Out of the computer, TV, random other items, this gift was the best one she received. For 10 bucks at that! She suffers from arthritis and has issues opening jars and dropping things very easily. When we put this to work, I, being the cynic, didn't think it would work to be honest with you. To our amazement, it actually worked quite well. We tried it on a 20oz diet pepsi you would get from the store - worked We tried it on a glass jar with alfredo sauce - worked We tried it on plastics bottle, glass bottles, ect - worked This is an extremely useful tool and if anyone struggles with opening jars or anything with a lid, buy this.

Getting older means losing some strenght like in the hands. Jars opened at age 30 can become a challenge at 50 plus. Many of us have used the 'auto' can opener - and enjoyed it's cuttings though now we find a quality manual can-opener works even better. But jars? We have the big Black and Decker jar opener received as a gift from the favorite oldest daughter. Works great - but it's big. This Jar Opener is small and surprisingly capable of meeting the needs we've exposed it to so far - no, not that many yet. Works slower than the big jar opener - but easier to get out and put into use. So far, five stars. If things change after real use, review will be updated.

She has been very pleased with this opener

My wife is begining to develop athritis in her hands and needed a product to help her with opening jars etc. I purchased a couple of other openers that didn't work well for her. I then bought the Hamilton Beach Open Ease Automatic. She has been very pleased with this opener. First of all it arrived on time and secondly it was very easy to set up and operate. Just two large size buttens to push and it removes a variety of lid sizes. The grip and turning mechanism's are firm and strong, especially on lids that were previously impervious to my grabbing and twisting and my wife's usuall knocking them with a knife handle! It's also a nice looking small appliace and stores easily in a kitchen draw. I would advise a friend to buy this excellent item. Hey guys, if you are looking for a 'practica' gift for your wife, to go along with the perfume etc. this would make a great Christmas present thiis year. Jim. Great for those of us who are losing the use of our opposable thumbs or our hand strength. :-)

When your opposable thumbs stop working properly due to arthritis or any other condition, this contraption allows you to open jars without asking for assistance. Manual jar openers work fine, unless you can't use your hands well enough to grip and turn them, in which case this is the answer. It does take a few minutes to figure out and, once you know how to use it, it takes a few moments for it to open jars, but it works well and that is the important thing.

Powerful tool and works as advertised.

Works as advertised and powerful little motor. Easy to use once you get used to the 2 operating buttons. I found the ergonomics a bit of a challenge since the rounded shape and shiny housing is slippery, especially with wet hands. It's heavier than it looks. It works as advertised though and is powerful enough to open every jar we tried with no problem. I bought 2. It's especially effective on large bulky jars that are hard to grip by hand and particularly are very difficult to break the seal for the first time by hand. It has no problem. Just set it on top and push the button...in 10 seconds, voila!

Great for those with arthritic hands (and don't have an extra set in-house)

My mother mentioned having a very difficult time opening jars, to the point that she avoided making certain dishes that required prepackaged ingredients not stored in a can. Ugh, picturing this in my head hurt (my soul), and I immediately searched for a remedy. Of all the options available (actually not that many), I chose this model, despite it being discontinued, based on reviews posted here and elsewhere. If it didn't work, then I would shell out the $150-300 for the next best model, but thankfully it worked just as advertised, , which she happily showed me during my next visit. I was reluctant to buy this because it seemed too easy to use to be effective, but I saw for myself that it works, albeit slowly. I don't understand why it was discontinued. Would definitely buy again if I can find one.

This device really works.

This device really works. Sometimes however depending upon the size of the top and the jar you may have to hold the device steady while it opens the jar. But the majority of the time you can just sit the device on top of the jar and watch the magic. It has never not open a jar for me. I did look at a lot of Youtube videos and recommendations before purchasing this brand. For me it is the best of the devices on the market at the time i purchased it.
