toilet fill valve
I've replaced way too many toilet fill valves and never paid much attention to the various models at bid box vendors. I bought this unit from Amazon and was pleasantly surprised at an innovative feature that prevents the valve from constantly refilling the tank if you have a faulty flush seal. A faulty flush seal will allow water in the tank to slowly leak into the bowl thereby lowering the tank level which is then detected by the flush valve and trigger it to refill the tank. I recently noticed my water bill registering higher-than-normal water usage and found a seldom used spare bathroom with a leaky flush valve. The new replacement flush valve has a simple mechanical system that prevent the fill valve for activating unless the flush handle is actuated. The flush valve installation is almost as simple as installing typical flush valves. There is one extra step involving hooking up the mechanical release (very simple). I'm very happy and went ahead and ordered two spare flush valves to keep in my emergency inventory. I find it's nice to have replacement items for common failure items at-the-ready.

No more fssssssssss fsssssssss fssssssss fssssssss; vastly improved fill & flush action
Living in an area with hard water, I know that I periodically have to replace bits of my toilet, or suffer from annoying little water leaks until it finally dies. When my upstairs toilet started in with the fssssss fssssss fssssss fsssss leaking, I suffered through it until the little lady suggested that I order new toilet guts from inside. Seeing that Amazon sold Fluidmaster, which I've used in the deep dark past, it was an easy decision to go with them. If anything, their product, while appearing externally the same as it was thirty years ago, is better than it ever has been, annoying plastic packaging aside. Rather than the slow fill and unenthusiastic flush I got with the old infrastructure inside of the tank, I now get a quick fill, an easy adjustment, and a very enthusiastic bowl-clearing - surprisingly so. I'm pleasantly reminded of the ancient water-"wasting" seven-gallon flushmonster that lives in the half bath in my old house that never ever got clogged.

Finally no more leaky toilets & no more annoying humming noise
What a huge relief finally no more leaky toilets around the house. Install took about 20 minutes including the removal of the old valve system, key thing to remember is to make sure you have teflon tape to seal the water line make sure the float mechanism has clearance to go up and down smoothly. I would recommend just testing the system before you put everything back together.

Easy 20 minute project and you just need pliers
I'm feeling like a hero today! I fixed the obnoxious, leaking, running toilet all by myself as a surprise for my husband. This kit fit our 15 year old Kohler toilet perfectly and the instructions were straight forward and made perfect sense. It actually took me about 20 minutes to remove the old stuff and install this. After 24 hours and multiple uses, the toilet is no longer running or losing water through the flap thing. Our old one was just falling apart as it turned out. The new flap in this kit fits and seals exactly as it should. We were quoted seventy bucks for a plumber and I did it myself. (I know, who gets this happy about repairing the toilet!?)

Good price for a trusted name brand
Great product for the money. My toilet had a casting flaw where the assembly was attached to the tank so I had to use some silicon rope to make the seal tight, but this was not the fault of the product. After several days of snugging the bottom washer to fix the few-drops a day trickle (I didn't want to wildly crank down on the nut and bust the porcelain or the assembly), it finally sealed up and I have been happy ever since. I had already purchased a flapper, so now I have an extra for the other toilet when it gives way. Definitely cheaper to do myself than hire a plumber. Great price for a trusted brand. Would purchase again if necessary. For most people, the removal of the old assembly and installation will be a piece of cake. Very thorough directions included, with pictures and everything. If really intimidated about doing it yourself, You Tube has great videos for this kind of project.

Easy and Affordable DIY Solution to Leaking or Noisy Toilet
I purchased this Fluidmaster Toilet Fill Valve Kit to replace the original fill valve that came with my toilet (14 years old). I had previously replaced the flapper a few times, but this time the entire fill valve was shot (Noisy, leaking & running). My water bill was running about $5 higher than normal, so this new fill valve will pay for itself in less than 2 MONTHS! The install was extremely easy; taking only about 15 minutes. The included directions are easy to follow; no tools are necessary unless the existing lock-nut that is under the toilet is a bit seized. Before installing or removing any parts, turn off your water pressure at the toilet and flush your toilet to remove as much water as possible from the tank. Any remaining water can be soaked up and removed with a sponge. I always get a small bowl, or use an old towel under the toilet to capture any other small amounts of water once I remove the nut that holds the valve stem. The new valve kit and flapper easily attached to the flush arm and fill pipe. This is a very inexpensive and straight forward DIY project. Like most Amazon shoppers, I count on honest, unbiased reviews. I hope you have found this review helpful in making your purchase decision.

Works for my very old toilet
I was afraid this wouldn't work for my super old at the very least 20 year old toilet but it did! It was so easy to install and I have 0 complaints. I'm 20 and know nothing about toilets but the instruction were very clear (when I read them) and the only thing I had trouble with was getting the thing that keeps it at the height you set down so it stays in place. I didn't push it down all the way till the first time and filled the tank, it came up and started filling the tank with more water. I'm fairly weak so it was a struggle since the toilet was filled with burning hot water (dad set that up and messed it up lol) and I forgot I could drain the tank again but I managed. Just be quick to turn off the water if it happens.

The very best fill valve in all ways!
First off, Amazon has the picture wrong on this. The 400CR is the newer version with the screw type float height adjuster..always, whereas the 400C can be the old (bar and clip adjuster) or new version because Fluidmaster reverted back to using just 400C some time after the design revision. I knew this when I ordered, but for those of you who care, there it is. I've had both the old and new and just prefer the newer design personally, but plumbers don't seem to care either way. They both function exactly the same way. This is by far the best designed, easiest to install and configure, and reliable fill valve available. I've installed it in each of my toilets over the years. It fills fast, fairly quietly and doesn't cause pipe hammer. I finally had to replace one (the older design) because it repeatedly started having issues. I'd had it in the toilet for at least 10 years anyway! First it started running, which was easily fixed with a cap flushing, but then water stopped flowing to the fill tube. The clog was down in the fill valve below the cap and did not stay fixed with a flushing, so I just decided to replace it. They only take a few minutes to replace and the cost is nominal. The flapper that comes with it is of good quality but I haven't used it. It can be installad on round or square fill tubes that have flapper posts on them. (A post ring for fill tube is not included. Looks like the picture of the black part of the flapper is wrong too. It does not have a fill tube ring. It is open ended just with hooks) My one toilet has a flapper with the timing cup on top of it and it's own drain seat insert that it's attached to (555CRP8, also made by Fluidmaster, 555C is the newest version) because the fill tube is too far from the drain and a standard offset on the flapper, as this has, wouldn't center and seal properly. The other toilet still has a firm gray one with a notched plastic "chain" that I installed separately years ago too. If they aint broke, I don't replace them! Flappers are the touchy part. In addition, fluidmaster provides excellent instructions for the DIYers like me, both in the package and on their website, including troubleshooting instructions. Top notch professional company. Highly recommended.

Great Buy!
My toilet has been working fine but every so often it would keep running. I would adjust the water level and it would work properly again. But after a couple days it would start running again. I decided to change the fill valve. I liked this kit because it had both the fill valve and the stopper. Why change one and not the other? The fill valve was SO EASY to change! I couldn't believe it! I changed it all by myself! I had a hard time using the directions that came with them but that might just be because I'm more a visual person and this was my first time EVER tinkering around in a toilet tank. So I ended up just watching a youtube video and I was able to replace it in about 15 mins. Now the water fills up fast and stops when it's supposed to. It's pretty quiet. I definitely recommend it! I'm ordering another one for my parent's bathroom!

Took six months to figure it out...
So I’m pretty sure I’m the world’s biggest idiot when it comes to plumbing because I bought this thing a half a year ago to replace an old one in my toilet. I tried for a week to get it to adjust right and allow water to fill all the way to the line (which shouldn’t be there because that’s sort of gross and shows how old it is and needs to be cleaned with acid like the rest of the toilet but then I wouldn’t know how to fix anything so I just leave it) but could never figure it out. YouTube plumbers told me to adjust it but when I tried it started clicking and I was sure I was going to break it. Eventually I just gave up and dealt with having a weak flowing guest toilet. Well, roommate finally went at it for an hour or so and found out that no, it would not break if it clicked. It is supposed to do that, then you can lift and adjust the height. This is why I stick to my computers and let “theses guyses right here” take care of it. Anyways, was gonna rate one star at first for not being universal, but it was my brain that was not universal. Would be nice to have more detailed instructions for dummies though.
