Enjoying this steamer, which I first heard about as a recommended product on a popular cooking show on the radio. I use it daily, and chiefly/mundanely to keep my breakfast slow-cooking oatmeal from splattering in the microwave. I just bought a second one to take to the office. At 8-1/2 inches in diameter, it fits well over the lid of a soup bowl (in the microwave) or small-to-medium saucepan (on the stove). Do not expect to use it as a splatter guard on a big dinner plate in the microwave. Since I've bought this item, I have read Skimmer's helpful review about this item's primary use as a Japanese otoshibuta that you can drop down inside pans on top of sauces and sauces to distribute the heat evenly and avoid a lot of stirring and splatter (like you get with hot bursting spaghetti sauce bubbles on the stove). I look forward to using the product that way, since i make a lot of soups and sauces. I may even try it with my stone ground grits! One critical review complained that the steamer sinks down too much in the middle in the microwave. I have not encountered that problem when I place the steamer properly. Another critical review complained that this stained easily. I have not encountered that either. This item is made of silicone, which is nonporous, so it won't soak up anything that stains, but stains may appear on the surface, especially after you put it on top of tomato sauce, beet borscht, etc. while cooking. Stains should clean away easily, but don't expect this item to retain its pristine whiteness after regular use! I love this item and look forward to trying it out to its full potential in the future.

Ghost Pig prevents microwave splatters! Ghost Pig blows smoke cutely from his nostrils! Ghost Pig is easy to grasp and remove by grabbing his ears! Ghost Pig keeps me from getting steam burns, unlike saran wrap! Ghost Pig is the perfect size to cover my Pyrex bowls, up to 2.5 liter capacity! Ghost Pig goes dauntless into the dishwasher! All hail Ghost Pig!!

Used to use wax paper but that was an unnecessary waste. This reusable steamer works exactly as described. Just the right amount of team released to reheat food in the microwave. SO wants one for work. Good idea! Cleans up easily. Wish it came in more sizes. Or does it? In any event, I'll order again.

Our piggy lid gets used all the time, both in the microwave and just to keep food warm. Easy to clean too, just throw it in the dishwasher.

This funny looking thing REALLY WORKS. It saves time, saves steamed fingers, saves money, easy to clean.....Just wish it was available in a bigger size - would buy that too!

It is as useful as it is cute. It fits over small bowls for the microwave and vents so you don't have that sudden escape of steam when you remove plastic wrap. Use it everyday, often.

Works beautifully. A logical and effective design. I wish we had these years ago! Easy to clean by hand or in the dish washer. Rugged quality. Makes a perfectly tight seal on any container that is being heated. I most often use it in the microwave but have also used it as a lid for saucepans. It's even possible to float it directly atop a simmering soup or sauce. I have also put it right into the refrigerator to reheat a container later or the next day; it keeps a good seal because of the clingy nature of silicone. More eco- than using plastic wrap. Cheaper than covering containers with damp paper towels (my previous method). And so easy to clean that you don't find yourself in the dilemma of gambling: can I heat this quickly enough and risk possible microwave splatter? I was unsure if I should choose one of the smaller sizes because I like to microwave a variety of Glasslock and Snapware containers. This larger size works just fine no matter how small the container it's topping. Someone who frequently heats coffee cups or mugs might find one of the smaller sizes more convenient. I think I would be inclined to order a 2nd or 3rd in this large size because it's the most versatile.

Really works well. Clean up is a breeze. Use daily.

I bought my first piggy while visiting the Metropolitan Museum in NYC and have used it nearly daily since then. I just bought 4 more in anticipation of an upcoming Christmas gift exchange party. I'm a little envious that the new ones are a bit bigger than mine so may have to get one more for my larger microwave bowls.

LOVE my little piggy! I loved it so much, I bought more piggy steamers of the other sizes, too. I use it for covering food in the microwave (works like a charm), but I've also used it to cook eggs in a frying pan... gentle heat, a little steam, so that you still have a little runny yolk but not too cooked, just like over easy without the 'over' part (which I find really difficult to do). I've also used it to cover a pot of simmering soup so that I didn't need to constantly worry about boil-overs with regular lids. Cleans up really easily. Great little gadget! Wish I had these years ago!
