Excellent machine
We have had this serger for a few months now and have had no issues with it. Like any serger, it's a bit intimidating to thread at first, but each path is clearly marked and color coded. One thing I should have figured out sooner is that the marked cutter guide measurements correspond to how much fabric is -cut- and doesn't refer to the seam allowance. So, if the serger seam is a quarter inch wide and you have a 3/8" seam allowance, you want to set the cutter guide to 1/8". I guess it turned out to be okay, though, because I like my clothes tight. We use it mainly on knits in super stretch mode with three threads, and it is just awesome for that. Super stretch is the right name for it. But the machine is great for wovens, too, and is pretty easy to convert back to the normal mode with both looper threads going. It just feels so smooth and leaves a beautiful seam that you can't get except with an overlock machine. It's probably three or four times faster than using the stretch stitch on our regular machine (the one that goes two steps forward then one step back, etc.). And that's not even considering that I had to sew the stretch stitch and then a separate stitch on the seam allowances to prevent fraying. I fly through projects now. If you're going to work with knits just do yourself a favor and start with a serger. Recently we bought a Janome coverstitch machine to finish off our machine collection and the clothes I'm making now look so much better than before these two machines. The coverstitch machine makes beautiful, professional-looking top stitching on hems and collars. I've got my own little (voluntary) sweatshop now. Make sure you figure in the cost of an overlock thread collection when budgeting for buying one. Especially the loopers burn through the thread like there's no tomorrow! This is exactly what we were looking for. It comes with quite a few goodies: some potentially useful feet (I have only used the regular foot and the elastic foot, though), a replacement cutter for if you accidentally cut through a pin or something, and some really nice tweezers which have proven useful for all three machines. The extra feet aren't in very obvious packaging, though, so make sure to look for those in the box.

Both Loopers are Readily Seen and Easy to Thread
I love this machine. Why: Because the front opens up completely, therefore, I can easily see all the intricate parts as I thread the machine. Not only do I see the parts, the threading is so easy. The machine I had prior to this caused me tremendous frustration. I had to actually get my flashlight out and bend down to see inside--and trying to see over to the left to get to the second looper was insane. I highly recommend the Singer Stylist 11 to all those looking for a dependable, east-to-operate serger. The price is moderate and the performance is great.

Singer Stylist II is a gem.
Just received my new serger and set it up this morning. Upon opening the box I discovered the serger came threaded and to my delight I discovered that this serger not only uses the big spools but you can use the small spools of thread as well. (I almost purchased the Brother serger for this reason. Glad I didn't) They don't tell you about the different size thread spools you can use in any of the reviews or product details. As a matter of fact, they don't give you much information in the details at all. This is a wonderful serger. Not only does it come with all the necessary tools, but it also comes with 3 additional feet. An elastic tape foot, a blind hem foot and gathering/shirring foot. Each foot comes in it's own little box which also contains directions on how to use each one. The manual that comes with this serger is pretty straight forward and easy to read. As I said the serger came threaded but I guess during shipping the threads were loose so they got a little tangled up. While trying it out I broke a thread. After following the directions and double checking all the treading I got the machine up and running. It was a little frustrating because I had no idea what I was doing, but after trial and error I got it working. Keep in mind, I am a beginner sewer and know barely anything about sewing machines or sergers. This machine is very user friendly for beginners and I highly recommend it.

Great Machine!
I run a university costume shop and have found this to be a great machine. Having easy access to the bottom loops is amazing and makes it a snap for anyone to thread. Converting from regular stitching to roll heming is also very easy. I have worked with many sergers in my sewing career and this machine is well worth the money!

I enjoy mine a lot
Have had my serger for over a year now. Yes, all sergers are a pain to thread. This one is no different. But for the money I paid, I think its great. I've had fun making many projects with it. They only issue I had was finding the right serger needles. Had to order them from amazon because Joann's did not carry them.

Good little machine for the home sewer
I loved how the machine was ready to use right out of the box. I've been using it for a couple of weeks and have to say that although I started our being a bit fearful, I've now become quite comfortable. I've learned how to change/rethread without hesitation, changed out a broken needle (completely my fault!), set the machine to sew knit or woven material and completed some really fun projects. No, this is not a thousand dollar serger. No, it's probably not a good pick for a professional seamstress but: it works great - especially for the price - for the home sewer. While the included instruction manual is "OK", I'd suggest borrowing a book or two from the library to really understand all the serger can do.

Super Value and Excellent Performance
I bought this serger overlock sewing machine in September 2013 and its still working just the way it did when I got it - excellent performing machine. My wife uses it mainly to cut off excess length of pants she buys in retail stores - hems and cuts in one pass if I understood her correctly. You just have to keep it going straight to match up and it does the rest. She has a very expensive and complex Singer sewing machine, too. She likes the Singer brand. I notice the price is well above two hundred now. I paid about halfway between one fifty and two hundred on a lightening deal. I admit I got an exceptionally good deal - makes me even more satisfied.

Performs as advertized
This machine has worked perfectly and I am very pleased with it. I DO read reviews before I buy something on Amazon and in spite of a few negative reviews on this serger, I decided to take a chance on it. I believe that most of the trouble reported has to do with operator error and haste. When you want to change thread, set up different stitches, etc. you have to be calm, read the manual and proceed slowly, step by step through the instructions in the order written. Of course there can always be a lemon or broken machine delivered but other than that, get yourself into the zen of serging and enjoy it.

Great little serger
I am pleased with my purchase of this great little machine. It is a 2-3-4 spool serger which gives you lots of options in your sewing experience. And the manual that comes with it is very easy to read and understand. I am excited to start using it.

Works Well, But May Be Challenging For the Sewing Novice.
There are lots of instructions that should be carefully read and practiced. One of the most important is learning to properly thread this thing. That took practice and some acquired skill. One thing we learned quickly is that you must use quality threads or they will break a lot. Knotting and feeding the new leader through the system to avoid total re-threading never worked. The lighting is very lacking - quality exterior lighting is a must. Threading it with you have large hands is a daunting task catering to the more thin, nimble hands and fingers! Controlling the speed of the sewing can be bit frustrating at first. The key to success is reading the book, practicing, and experimentation of sample fabric before you do your project. For us, the machine worked well and has definitely broadened what projects we work on - especially stretch fabric. We recommend this unit.
