Very durable/versatile, easy to use bins for composting, growing vegetables, storage, etc.
Purchased an Amazon Warehouse deal on the Geobin in Jan 2017 to use in upcoming spring. Item was in original packaging but appeared to repacked and was missing the keys to connect the bin. Missed the return window and simply emailed Geobin and a representative from the company emailed me right away and sent closure keys to me for free, awesome customer service. Update Fall 2017: For those concerned with the bin not staying up and falling over or not maintaining a circular shape. I suggest using a few 5 foot tomato/wood stakes and place in a star shape configuration to keep the bin circular. When you fill the bin, simply remove the stakes and bin stays circular depending on the amount of yard waste you put in there and you can turn to the contents when needed. I see a lot of reviews are asking for a lid. I live in Upstate NY and temps are very cold here. I started 2 bins in Oct/Nov and temps were well in the mid 120's for a while and stopped turning and covered the bins with a plastic from a big box store near me. What I did was hammer 3 pieces of rebar 20" long in the ground just outside the bin on each side and simply insert 3 schedule 40 PVC pipes 10' long into the rebar and created a hoop. Cut the plastic to fit and placed rocks and bricks to keep the plastic a tight fit around the base and attached bungee cords to keep the cover nice and secure. This keeps the contents warm into the winter and prevents rain/snow from ruining the compost before spring. I'm not sure if the compost will freeze and I expect it to with the winter cold we get here, but wanted to keep it cooking enough so the compost is ready in the spring. I look on the bright-side, no turning and the pile stays moist and keeps the friendly bacteria doing their job and breaking down the materials. When the sun comes up, solar radiation warms the contents and humidity stays in there and doesn't freeze. Behind the bins are 40 plus bags of leaves I collected from my neighbors and will have enough materials for additional spring composting.

I'm a Composter Beginner and I love this thing!
I'm a middle-aged woman, living in Southern California. I was always curious about composting but it seemed complicated at first. What convinced me to purchase this bin was its reasonable price and it looked easy to use. I watched a few reviews on You Tube to help me decide. I highly suggest if you are thinking about purchasing this and have no experience with composting, check on the videos on YouTube, there are plenty of them. I have been using the bin for two and a half weeks and my pile is starting to heat up! I have the diameter at 3 feet right now but I'm thinking of taking all the material out and expanding it to the maximum 4 foot diam. capacity, and putting the material back in. As other reviewers have noted, it does take some work at turning the pile. I have been doing it a few times a week. I like the holes in the side which are designed for air circulation but it also makes it easy for me to keep the bottom layers moist by aiming the hose at the sides. I've put food scraps in (food & veggie), cardboard, non-glossy junk mail, lawn clippings and we just trimmed our large olive tree, so those clippings have gone in there as well. When I put the food scraps in, I make sure I cover them with "brown material." I have not had any problems with bad odors, or pests getting into the bin (my neighborhood has lots of squirrels, some rats and raccoons). Our weather has been pretty dry so I do find myself watering the bin almost everyday. It is sometimes difficult to turn the pile since the bin is full, but I'm fairly strong so it's not that big of a deal. I am so glad I purchased this one, for the price, since I was almost going to pay over $100 for a fancy big compost tumbler at the local big box home improvement center! Hope this helps and have fun composting!

Great product, fabulous price, wonderful seller
I'm very pleased with my GEOBINS. My yard gets dumped on with leaves in the fall, and I needed a good solution for them. I initially bought a fancy, lidded compost bin. After I quickly filled it, I realized it was not cost effective for my leaf situation. I sprung for a less fancy looking GEOBIN and am so glad I did. After filling it, I ordered a second. I now use the lidded compost bin for kitchen scraps and the GEOBINS for yard/garden waste. It is probably not necessary, but I anchored mine into the ground with several 4ft tall steel garden stakes. I threaded the stakes through the larger holes meant for the locking "keys" and tapped them into the ground. These bins aren't going anywhere. Also, the seller is wonderful. I lost one of the keys that latch the ends of the bin together, so I emailed the seller asking if I could buy more. They sent me a set for free! Thank you!

Excellent compost bin, if used correctly. Many don't use it correctly (apparently).
I've been doing compost and leaf mold for many years. The GEOBIN is an outstanding, excellent product. Of course it doesn't stand up by itself, it was not intended to work that way. These bins are great if you have the materials to fill them up at least 1/3 of the way (better 1/2 way) when you set it up. This is not a bin that you stand up empty and put little bits of stuff in it over a year's time. It won't work that way. There are compost bins that will allow you to add little bits at a time over a long period, but this isn't it. IF you have the materials to fill it up (or at least 1/3 to 1/2 way) at the beginning, then its an excellent, high-quality product. This is an outstanding compost or leaf mold bin, but it must be used in a particular way in order to be effective (as above). If you use it that way, its a 5 star product and is an excellent value for the price. BTW... if you don't want to struggle putting it together, then lay it out flat on your driveway for 2-3 days with some rocks on each end. Then it will go together without any problems. If you try to take it out of the box and immediately put it together, you will struggle against the elastic recoil of the material that has been rolled up so tightly for shipping.

Great bin for the money
This bin is a great value. It's simple, cheap, and it works. Frankly, it does not make much sense to spend over a hundred dollars for a bin, which is what most cost. The best alternative to this is to make a bin yourself out of wire fencing or hardware cloth, which I have heard works great and I almost did that myself before settling on this. This is more convenient and more attractive, which matters if (like me) you don't have any place on your property to put it out of sight. It's also only barely more expensive than the DIY version. BUT -- this particular version, from this seller (My Green Gloves Dot Com) does NOT come with the stakes that are included in the slightly more expensive version offered by multiple sellers (including Amazon itself). If you want the stakes (and I would suggest that you do), go pay a few more bucks for the other one here: Presto Products GKL0951-6 Geobin Composting System Yes, you can go buy stakes are your local hardware or garden store, but you'll spend more than the difference between these two versions. UPDATE Jan 2013: It appears that the none of the Geobins ship with stakes anymore, though some folks may be selling old stock that still comes with stakes. But there's no guarantee that you'll get stakes if you buy via the link above. Anyway, it turns out that the stakes are not all that important -- I've found that once you get the thing nice and full, it stays put pretty well on its own. Now that my first one is full, I am going to be ordering a second one. UPDATE Feb 2014: Having owned two of these bins for over a year now, in continuous use, I can add to my original review the fact that they are really quite durable. I'd had some concerns initially, but they hold up pretty well. The plastic does get strained/stretched where you fasten it together, but it doesn't tear. Whenever I turn my compost, I unwrap it and reassemble it upside down and inside out relative to how it just was. This keeps the plastic from getting stretched in the same places all the time and keeps everything in shape. I don't know if they'll last forever, but at least another couple of years, if not more. Speaking of turning, don't waste your time with those plunge-type compost turners -- they don't really do much. If you want to turn your compost, get an ensilage fork (aka "pitchfork"), unwrap the Geobin from the pile (if your compost is sufficiently moist, it will hold its shape well enough even unwrapped), set it up right next to the pile, and fork the pile into the bin in its new location. A fork works much, much better than a shovel for this job. This is great exercise! It only needs to be done a few times for each batch of compost, until it no longer heats up after turning.

Extra rad. Very pleased with this.
I read a lot of reviews before buying this and finally took the plunge. Here is what I have to say: If you are having problems using this, I think maybe you have problems using most things. It's a pretty straightforward product. Flatten it out the same way you have flattened out every tightly-rolled thing you've ever encountered in your life, put it somewhere where the wind won't knock it over, and fill it up with leaves or whatever. If the wind knocks it over, yet again, solve the problem the same way you have solved that problem every other time something has fallen over in your yard. Use zip ties or whatever, your call. If it seems like it needs some extra shaping, put a couple sticks inside, one end on each wall, and stretch it open for a couple days. (I did it for five minutes and just filled the bin halfway up with compost immediately, so the compost itself held it open.) It's basically like breaking in a new pair of jeans. And I feel this is totally reasonable given the extremely low price. This is a customizable, good quality bin. I think it is an appropriate price for something used to keep the earth in better shape (I'm not into $200 eco-whatever bins that cater to wealthy vegans and not people with normal incomes and normal gardens,) and in general, if you are afraid of ten minutes of work, I don't really know why you're bothering to compost anyway. This thing is awesome.

Great for hot composting. Makes turning the pile simple and even a little fun.
This kicked my hot compost pile into high gear. The key is it's huge capacity, it's ability to be adjusted and how easy it is to remove to turn the pile. I fit 3 large maple trees worth of shredded leaves and some other carbon into it at about 75% capacity to store until I had some nitrogen. Then I cut the grass, removed it, re-set it up and added layers of leaves and grass clippings. IT was about 90% full. Within a day it was steaming like crazy and within 2 about a 1/3 of the volume had been cooked off. I was then able unwrap it from the pile, readjust down its size by about 1/3, and then pitchfork the pile back into it at 90% capacity - adding some more fresh grass clippings. Lather, rinse, repeat. In a week my fall leaves and grass clippings were less than 1/3 of their original volume and still cooking at about 150 degrees. I have never had such fast results with a bin or pile before. The key is the ability to maintain a consistently deep, well aerated pile throughout the process - regardless of the volume of ingredients you have to work with. And how easy it makes turning the pile a nice bonus. Sometimes the simple solution is the best. Certainly true with this product.

The best compost bin I have ever used.
This compost bin happens to be the best thing I've purchased for composting. I watched a YouTube video about it by Patrick from one yard revolution. Decided to buy two. This was the easiest compost bin I have ever used and I could use it by myself with no help. Very easy to put together with the keys. And when I take it apart to turn it I just pull it and the keys pop off. The compost stays in place and it makes it easy for me to be able to turn it by myself.

..2 years later can confirm it works
We bought the geobin composter April 2015, we chose it based on price, size, and reviews here. When I set it up, I doubled up the layers to make it about the size of a 50 gallon trash bin. Over the 2 years we've added to it: grass clippings, egg shells, barely used paper towels, and tons of veggie and fruit scraps including Halloween pumpkins. Every few months we stir it with a pitchfork and when it's hot and dry outside, we cover the top with plastic and water it now and then. That's all the maintenance that is required. FINALLY, just this weekend (3/4/2017) we built a retaining wall planter and got to use the compost we had been making for 2 years. We scooped the top half into containers to access the bottom half which had become beautiful, black soil. Oh it's exactly as l had hoped for, it just looks so damn nutritious for plants. TLDR- cheap and works.

Simple to set up, material is very durable
This is my first compost bin. I was a bit apprehensive with the setup after scanning several 1 star reviews due to the difficulty of getting it set up. I really don't know the reasons for their struggle. My personal experience was super smooth and straightforward. I unrolled and straightened out the bin. Then I rolled them up to the desired size and I added the clips to keep it in place. I was up and running in literally 5 minutes. The setup was super simple. The material is very durable. I will look to order another one. A quick visit to YouTube suggests a 3:1 ratio of brown stuff to green stuff. Keep the material moist like a damp sponge. Rotate the content with a pitchfork once a week.
