These work great on my 2003 4 door blazer. It fits. The kayaks that we have are an Ascend FS10 and a Future Beach Fusion 10. It was easy to assemble. Some people say that it's hard. Don't let them scare you. If you can build a small legos set for kids ages 10+ then you'll have the mechanical prowess to put these together and install them on your car. Times for everything assuming you are using all four J-bars for two kayaks and only one person doing the labor: -First time assembly and installation to the roof: 1 hour -Loading two kayaks first time: 30 minutes (to figure out how you wanna strap them) -Unloading two kayaks: 5 minutes -Re-loading two kayaks: 10 minutes -Removing the J-bars from the rack: 10 minutes -Reinstalling the J-bars to the rack: 10 minutes They don't require full disassembly to be removed from the roof which is why removal and re-installation is so fast. They are extremely sturdy. I loaded and strapped down my kayaks and then shook the kayaks and watched the crossbars of my roof bend up and down. There was ZERO play in the kayak and the J-bars. Now for the bad: I didn't trust the cam straps. I loaded the kayaks, strapped them in, and then shook the kayaks and was able to pull the straps loose. Considering how much more expensive brand name J-hooks are versus how cheap reliable straps are, I can't in good conscious knock a star off. This is still a 5/5 star product for the money, but you need to order better straps. I use cheap tow strap that I had lying around in my garage but I don't recommend those since people warn that tow straps can warp plastic kayaks. I've used tow straps the past few outings but this season I plan on investing $15 into a better set of cam straps. EDIT TO ADD LINK TO REPLACEMENT STRAPS: I replaced the straps that came with this product with these. I was able to carry my kayak on a 4 hour trip averaging a speed of 60 mph to 70 mph, using these J-bars and those cam straps. I left my review of those. They are a 5/5 product. These are a great value for the money. Yes, there may be fancier racks out there but nowhere near this cheap. These aren't flashy but they are quite sturdy and will hold up for many years. Unless you happen across a deal on used racks on Craigslist, you aren't going to find a better deal. The straps are adequate as well. I have driven for hours on the interstate at over 70 MPH without the straps needing tightened. They are strong enough to hang yourself so they should hold the kayak on just fine. They also have a nice little flap that lays under the buckle to prevent its metal body from mauling you boat. Just make sure the strap loops under the crossbar instead of only through the rack and you'll be fine. As far as the lack of instructions or difficulty to assemble... If you can assemble a jigsaw puzzle you'll get them together, but it might take a bit. If you can change the oil on your car by yourself you won't have any problems. Two kayaks fit well on my 2003 Subaru Legacy with stock aero crossbars. I have a Jackson Hero and a Perception Corsica S on my car in the picture. On another vehicle I have fit a Wilderness Systems Tsunami 165 without problems. I've even hauled a Bell Yellowstone Solo canoe in a pair of these a couple times, it doesn't fit the greatest but it securely held the canoe without damaging it even though these racks weren't meant for canoes. While I also have a set of Yakima Hully Rollers, I can't fit two kayaks on top of my Subaru like I can with these J-racks. I would definitely buy these again!

O.k. - straight up; this is VERY inexpensive for 2 kayak racks. it's not going to have extensive padding or any bells and whistles. However, this is a very well built set of racks for that price. The assembly is easy and the parts fit together with the minimum of fuss. I have no clue what is confusing people about the assembly process. Yes; there is only an exploded schematic to guide you through assembly, but if you have ever assembled a blender you should do fine lol. The carriers where not a perfect fit for my 2018 Honda CRV with factory rack and rails, but fit tightly, securely, and with plenty of clearance to work the bolts and adjust the spacing. The padding will probably not last that long, but if you have access to a dollar store with pool noodles that shouldn't be a deal breaker. First trip was 189 miles each way at highway speeds (65-80 mph). Checked the racks at 20 and 90 miles and they were as secure as the day was long. Use ratchet straps in place of the provided straps to secure the kayak and use the ones provided as Bow lines back to the carrier, since I would think a more secure connection is optimal. One 15 foot ratchet strap allows a figure eight around the set for me. Don't be a gorilla cranking down the ratchet strap(s) - obviously. Remember...it's a kayak, not a chest of drawers. Very pleased - friends buying them also after taking a look.

Overall - excellent deal for the price, very happy, and they work well and go on and off in less than 5 min. Specifics: -Some commented bolts were too long, I did not have this issue. But if your rack's cross rails are close to your roof line, you may need to purchase shorter cage bolts from a hardware store to suit your needs. - Assembly: Easy, While the pic of the locking nut and non locking were switched, the Item number and description are correct. -My cross rails are thin, so I omitted the non-locking nuts on the longer/middle bolts (that the big plastic knobs tighten to) so they would hold. -This set has better and larger knobs and nuts that are solidly inside of compared to a meighbor's store set that had cheaper quality knobs and the nuts could fall out of. -Straps: They are the SAME straps sold with the Field and Stream's J-bar set that cost $30-40 more than these, but they do hold very well, but appear to be white metal and I will be replacing them with other straps in the future.

I was a little nervous about this product with the other reviews I read. They were VERY easy to put together if you understand how to do it. I didn't have to boil anything. Just put them together. I secured them to square roof rack bars and they are very secure. I didn't use the wrench that came with them, had a larger one that worked much better. They hold the kayaks on my vehicle very well. The straps that come with them work great. When tightened on my vehicle there is no movement of the kayaks. When we went to pick up my new kayaks I has two people stop to ask me where I got my roof carriers. They LOOK good on my car! ... Don't you think?

Quality and function for a fraction of the price! I really liked these for my Honda Pilot! I bought aftermarket cross bars for ease of removing them. Also from Amazon, for $40. Overall for under $100. I have kayak racks with J bars that can both be removed in under 5 mins, mounted in about the same time with a helper. They arrived in 2 days thanks to Prime and they were well packaged individually wrapped, easy to assemble, follow the pictures! Word to the wise, YOU NEED A RACHET WRENCH, DO NOT USE THE TOOL PROVIDED OR YOU WILL BE AT IT FOR HOURS!!!! Also, the nuts with the rubber ring are for the small bolts. The two large bolts go in the middle! Again just follow the diagram in the instructions provided. A helper makes installation go by smoother.

I was apprehensive, like most, at first because of the price and posted reviews. After a 700-mile trip at speeds up to 80-mph (and crosswinds) with two 12-ft kayaks mounted solidly on a set that cost ~$50, all that anxiety is a distant memory. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase of 2 of these racks from TMS! No real issues with assembly: Exploded diagram is sufficient if you have assembled anything yourself, ever (Lego counts). No special tools, just need a wrench. You MAY need a rubber mallet since there a tight fit on some of the parts but they fit well at the end -- takes a little wiggle and patience -- for the price (compared to Thule/Yakima) I was more than willing to put forth the effort. One piece of advice: make sure the square shank of the bolts aligns with the square collar of the holes in the tube steel BEFORE you push them through -- this will save you some time trying to align them blindly. If there's a tight fit, the nut should pull the bolt through with relative ease if properly aligned in advance. It took less than 30 minutes to assemble and mount a set of 2 racks. Solid and no movement. I read some concerns with compatibility. When I first mounted them, it did not appear to have an ideal fit to my Gen-4 Subaru Outback factory bars. However, the hardware is solid steel and if you tighten the nuts until the bracket is slightly flexed, it's not going anywhere (but don't go crazy and strip the threads). If you still have a fit-up issue, you can get a common machinist to make a set of custom brackets for ~$10 (good idea to do anyways with any type of rack on factory bars). Still better than spending over $125 on a name-brand rack that could have the same issue. As far as the included straps go: a lot of concerns written about their "robustness". I did not see any review where the straps actually had anything wrong with them or had any credible evidence of inadequacy. The included straps did not slip at all for the duration of the trip described. You can knot the slack strap right at the clip just to be sure. I added a backup security rope (as you always should - trust but verify), tying both kayaks down to the bars with a trucker's hitch, and there was no movement or audible vibration from the boats or straps even at 80 mph. However, If you're still just uncomfortable with using the provided straps, pick up a set of 1000-lb ratchet straps from Lowe's for $10 and be absolved of worries. Overall, this is a fantastic deal and the hardware is very secure!

I bought this pair of J-Bars to hold two Pelican 10' kayaks on my 2016 Subaru Forester using the factory aero crossbar. The J-Bars work well to hold the two kayaks in place. I just use the straps around the kayaks at the J-Bars to hold them in place and there is no movement at all, no need for tip tie downs. With the kayaks, or just the J-Bars, I did not have any noise coming from roof. I don't leave the J-Bars on my roof keep what little plastic on the bottom from getting eaten by the NV sun or the MPG loss. I found it easier to just remove the Subaru aero crossbars with the J-Bars attached than removing the J-Bars and the numerous double nuts. I highly recommend these J-Bars for 10' or smaller kayaks on a Subaru Forester. I can't speaker to longer kayaks or the need for tip tie downs since they aren't needed with these J-Bars and 10' kayaks.

So far so good, they've been on several expeditions and have done fine, do not work loose, tough and sturdy. We use heavier Kayaks, so it's not easy task. However, I stress this, buy straps with this product. Because the ones provided were not long enough. They did also include good instructions on do and don't do with tying down. Overall a good product, but for anything but flatwater kayaks the straps that come with are not long enough. And look on You Tube for the best way to do your strapping in because at first you look at the directions and think you can't tie in that way because once one boat is on you can't get to the rack for the second one that way. There is an easy way. Put your strap on the upper rack first and then lay the ends over the windshield on one end and the back of the car on the other then once the boat is on flip them up and over the ends and tie off on the bottom rack. I have had people who paid far more for their less effective racks ask me where I got mine.

I was a little nervous about ordering these J-bars because of some of the negative reviews concerning bolt length and measurements, but it was just as I suspected, some people don't understand how a carriage bolt works, and are not good at following directions. These bars are exceptional from the packaging to their design and quality. Once they are assembled, all you ever have to do to take them off, or put them on, is turn the very nicely made nylock nuts. Just remember to line up the squared carriage bolt with the square bolt hole, and tap/pound the bolt down "through" the rubber carrier, as in the picture.
