Works great for changing Tadpole water in a fountain!
My brother has a fountain in his yard that has not been used for a couple of years. The fountain is loaded with either Frog or Toad tadpoles. The water is very stagnant and needed to be changed. This item came to the rescue! Using a couple of 5 Gallon pail's from HD, I was able to rescue the little Pollywogs by changing out the water and refilling the fountain with clean rainwater captured in the roofs downspouts and collected in barrels. I made sure to leave the algae on the sides of the fountain walls and the bottom with the algae-coated leaves. Soon there should be thousands of new frogs or toads roaming the "Hood" feeding on mosquitoes, moths, palmetto bugs, spiders and roaches in their "search and destroy" missions. Great Product for my purpose and the enviornment!

Worn out after just a week at Crater of Diamonds state park.
I ordered a replacement set yesterday evening because in the set I've been using there are 2 of the 5 bodies with pieces broken out of the rims, and 3 of the 5 bodies where they stick together tightly when they're nested - and all of that after only washing and classifying approximately 80 buckets (5 gal each) of soil and gravel at the Crater of Diamonds state park in Arkansas. None of the screens came loose on me even though I pushed quite a bit of material through them, but the bottom bracket of the 1/2 inch screen my wife was using eventually gave way while she was breaking up a piece of kimberlite. The bodies on all of my screens were sticking together in the water tanks because they were scoured and scarred couldn't stand up to the sand and grit that got between them in the water. These are a convenient size and easy to handle, but when you use them hard they start to get worn pretty fast.

Great for sifting top soil
First, what I used them for and how they worked out: I purchased three of these. The 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 sizes. I used them from largest to smallest to break up the clumps of dirt and sift out all of the rocks and other things that were in the top spoil I had. If you are looking to do the same and only want to buy one, I'd recommend the 1/4 size. It is where the majority of the rocks I sifted were caught. The 1/2 didn't catch anything, though it did break up the dirt in preparation for the 1/4 size. The 1/8 size caught a lot of smaller rocks, but if the dirt you have is too moist, it soon becomes hard to push the dirt through the openings. Build quality: These are made of thick plastic and thick wire. They fit perfectly on 5 gallon buckets you would find at most home improvement stores. I was presently surprised since some reviews I read said the opposite. Will they withstand a 20 foot drop? Who knows. Already survived some 6 foot drops with no problem. Cleanup was pretty easy. I just hosed them down. The wire mesh is curved upward towards you and when pushed down on, the plastic lines you see in the picture of the item help support what you put in the item. Those seemed the weakest part of the item, but for what I was using it for it hasn't been an issue for me yet. Also, the space between the mesh and that plastic got lots of dirt stuck in it and was the hardest part to clean. There wasn't enough space for a finger so just use high pressure hose attachments and you should be fine. Overall, would buy again. I wish they were a little less expensive though. You don't have to buy all three like I did. Personally I think that going from largest to smallest made the sifting on the smallest size easier. However, as I said before, for sifting top soil, the 1/4 size is the size you want if you only want one.

Cat Litter: Perfect replacement for tedious scooping!
The 1/4" screen is PERFECT for sifting cat litter. So much easier and faster than scooping. We have 3 cats and 3 litter pans. Using this sifter and a 5 gallon bucket from Home Depot, I can clean all 3 pans in less than a minute! And my wrist doesn't hurt afterwards like it did with the scoop. My process is put the screen on top of the bucket (fits perfectly), pour litter onto screen, give bucket a shake, dump waste into trash bag, pour clean litter back into pan, and repeat! The screen is easy to clean as well. I use Tidy Cat Clumping Litter. Haven't tried with any other brand. I highly recommend this product. It's solidly built and the screen is sturdy. I've had it for 2 months and would NEVER go back to the old way!

Best invention ever!
I absolutely love this sifter! It fits perfectly over my 5 gallon buckets and makes sifting the rocks and roots from the dirt a breeze! Prior to getting this I was using a child's sifter from a set of sand toys. I feel like I have graduated! This thing will probably last forever. Anyone who wants to save time and be more efficient with gardening will be delighted to own this sifter.

Great for Worm Castings!
I have both the 1/4" and 1/12" versions of these to use to sift worm castings and they work beautifully! The 1/4" is perfect for quickly and easily sifting out larger things like fruit pits and seeds while the 1/12" captures the worms themselves along with all the cocoons and together they produce nice, fine castings suitable for use in the garden or for seed starting. They're very well made, sturdy, easy to use, and fit perfectly on top of a five-gallon bucket if needed. The mesh is strong and the support system underneath the mesh ensures it does not bow even with heavier loads. Overall, these are a must have for any worm composter and I highly recommend them.

Great option for cleaning cat litter boxes!
I used this 1/4" and the 1/8" sifters together as my "easy way to clean a litter box" shortcut. (Sifting out a different kind of nugget. Ha! Gross.) I have two, top access litter boxes that I created from large plastic storage containers. Each litter box holds an entire plastic container of litter. Scooping out the boxes with a hand scooper used to take quite a bit of time and kicked up so much dust in our house. Now, I use both sifters together, on top of a 5 gallon bucket outside, and pour the entire dirty litter box through. (It's a two step process: I usually have to stop about half way through to shake the remaining litter through the sifters, and then pour the rest of the dirty litter through.) Using the sifters is much more thorough, quicker, and kicks up less dust than scooping indoors. Thanks for making such a sturdy product!
