Bought these recessed lights so I could upgrade from my unsightly track lighting. There's quite a bit of confusion on whether these lights are IC-Rated or not. IC meaning Insulated Contact, or the ability to install the lights surrounded by insulation without fear of setting the house on fire. So I went ahead and contacted Globe Electric customer support and they confirmed that this model is indeed IC-rated if used with LED bulbs. There is an additional safety feature of having an integrated cut-off switch, ensuring that the fixture will not overheat and can be used with or without an insulation box. So, yes, these recessed lights are IC rated as long as you install them with an LED bulb. A big plus when installing as a remodel job. The lights themselves are great, easy to install, can swivel in any direction, and the nickel finish gives a stylish appearance. They're exceedingly bright when used in conjunction with a 50w LED bulb equivalent. Installation is pretty easy but make sure to check for studs behind the drywall where you want to cut the hole. Feeding a bent coat hanger through a small hole in the drywall is a great method of determining if there's any obstructions. As other reviewers mentioned these lights are slightly smaller than the standard 4" recessed can so you'll need a slightly smaller hole saw bit. I got the MK Morse AV62 Hole Saw, 3-7/8-Inch Bi-Metal Boxed. Also, I highly recommend getting a drillers dust bowl like this one, Morris Products 13500 Drillers Dust Bowl to catch all the bits of drywall when you cut the holes for the lighting. Otherwise, you'll have drywall dust everywhere. Overall, I like these recessed lights very much. Great lights, great price, & IC rated when used with LED bulbs.

Had some recessed lights installed around my house. I purchased 8 of these. I wish I had bought more because they look great! I used these bulbs in them: LOHAS Par20 LED Bulbs, Dimmable LED 9Watt (60W Equivalent) Lights Bulbs for home, 5000K Daylight White LED Flood Light Bulb, 40 Degree Beam Angle, Medium Base (E26) PAR20 LED Light Bulb (4 PACK).

well made, good functionality. virtually heat free when using LE 5W MR16 GU10 LED light bulbs

I bought 20 of these for general lighting throughout my main floor. I used 10 in a 15 x 17 area (plus ceiling fan in the middle) and 9 in a 10 x 13 kitchen and there is plenty of light if you use a GU10 LED 5W 120 degree spread dimmable 3000K lamp. the key is the 120 degree spread so that you don't get shadows or spots. (unless that is what you want). The quality is nice. When you first open them up you may think they are rather cheap but they are very well built and look great installed. The swivel isn't more than 15 degrees each way and is really only for minor adjustment, not a steel sloped ceiling. I had two challenges. The first was these are designed with the fins which hold them in the ceiling to be 90 degrees opposite the wiring box. This means if you are right next to a joist, you need to turn them sideways. I would say you need at least 1-3/4 inches away from a joist not for this to be a problem. In a tight area such as joists that have some plumbing or duct this is not an option. I ended up drilling out the rivet, turning it 75-80 degrees and putting a screw through to hold it. It worked well even though it seemed a little hokie. The second challenge is where I had 4 plus wires going into the box. I ended up buying an 1/2 knockout extension and connecting this box to a standard metal square box via the extension, then ran a set of wires between them. It worked well except that tucking it into the ceiling you have to be careful as you have a very long assembly that almost binds up. With the LEDs that are out, there is no longer a need for the 6 inch recessed lights or the 5 inch. Very good product. Will be buying 10 more for other areas.

I cannot believe this fixture doesn't have more reviews! I put two of these bad boys in the soffit on either side of my garage and they look GREAT! They're all metal (save for the baffle which is plastic) and very sturdy considering the price. I put an Eco Smart ECS 20 50WE WW FL 120 TP bulb in each fixture and they look incredible at night. I wired them off of the receptacle that powers my garage door opener and then wired in an Intermatic K4221C photo cell so I wouldn't have to worry about turning them on and off. The box recommends a 3-7/8" hole but when I couldn't find a hole saw in that size, I tried a 4" hole saw and it worked extremely well. Highly recommend!

so far so good. they are non ic (see review update****) rated so you must leave 3 inches of insulation gap around the box that goes in the ceiling. Even though I am using LEDS that don't let off heat like halogens I would still leave space... install was easy but doing ten of them is work. tips: use the "cut out" circle that is on the box the lights come in. this is the exact size circle you need to cut in the ceiling. before you cut, drill a pilot hole and use a hanger in an L shape to stick around and the ceiling to make sure you aren't too close to a stud. run 12/2 wire from hole to hole leaving a loop out. when you install it you will cut the loop and wire one in from another light and one out to another light. Update they can be used in ic applications if the led bulbs are under a certain number of watts, read instructions and description closely

I'm in the middle of a remodel and I installed 30 of these in my condo with with Bioluz LED bulbs and Lutron Diva Dimmer. These look great and really transformed the space. Installation wasn't too difficult - running the wiring was the most time consuming part. The 30 bulbs only consume 195 watts which is the equivalent of 3-4 normal incandescent bulbs. 10 Pack Bioluz LED GU10 LED Bulbs 50W Halogen Equivalent Dimmable 6.5w 3000K 120v UL Listed (Pack of 10) Lutron DVCL-153P-WH Diva Dimmer for CFL, LED, Halogen, and Incandescent Dimmable Bulbs, White

Installed these lights with LED bulbs (Sunthin dimmable 5watt GU10 LED, $9.50 on Amazon), comes with the template you need to cut the holes which makes it easy for installation. I installed with Romex 12-2 Yellow cables and along with the drywall jab saw I bought everything cost under $18.00 per light (excluding the LED bulb). Every light worked out of box with no issues. The only issue is the wiring nuts included in the package are way too small so I bought new ones to accommodate my wiring. Another tip, if you use LED bulbs and the lights are on a dimmer do not use one that has the indicator light on the dimmer. That will cause the LED lights to flash intermittently. Overall the lights look great and with the tilting it works great as accent lighting as well. I would recommend.

Easy to install - if you have just an attic above you. - it always is important to have an enclosure that allows the insulation to touch the housing - this one does, if you use LED bulbs and it has a sensor to avoid overheating - the bulbs can be swiveled in any direction you require - cost is appropriate - I now would always prefer a small cross-section versus a bigger one and it looks great - I combined it with 7w 5000k LED bulbs dimmable and the effect is just what I expected for our kitchen - you do don want to be overwhelmed by too bright light, but you what the option to have it just perfect for your purpose. - if you want to install those yourself, invest in a hole drill of the correct size, that reduces the amount of dust if you have somebody vacuum while you drill -

I purchased #90540 set of 10 round light cans and found them of good quality and very easy to install. I purchased LED bulbs ASIN B008BG6ZUO and they go together very well. Dimming is excellent with a manual slide dimmer I got from HD for under $10 but will be trying out a zwave dimmer switch soon. Be sure to purchase the correct hole saw and a jug of HIT lock push in connectors to protect and secure your wires going through the metal punch outs. I also suggest you have a selection of mixed wire nuts on hand since the included ones are too tiny and of questionable quality. Once I started to daisy chain I found that yellow wire nuts were the easiest/best fit for two 14 gauge wires plus the 1 stranded wire from the light fixture.I also used electrical tape around each set of wires & nut to ensure they didn't pop off or accidentally cross should that happen. As soon as I see these on sale I'll be buying a couple more sets!
