I didn't realize how my old Black & Decker Single Service Coffeemaker wasn't heating up the water very well until I bought this new one. It works very well and is well-made. The only thing... I wish it had a big opening where you pour in the water like my old one used to have. This model has a two small places on either side where you can pour in the water... but they're both not very big...

I went from a 4 cup coffee-mate Coffeemaker that I used to make just one cup, to the Black and Decker Single Serve . What are the advantages that made me want to switch. 1) Lighter smaller unit that takes up less counter space. 2) Easy and fast to load with no paper filter. 3) Easier and faster to clean. 4) Needs less coffee to make a hotter cup with more flavor. 5) You save money on coffee and paper filters. 6) Turns itself off as soon as it makes a cup of coffee so no more accidentally leaving the coffee maker on. 7) No hotplate to get rusty and nasty. 8) Cleans up fast and easy. Only cost $20.

I bought this in January, 2016. It spent a year doing daily duty at my daughter's college dorm, has been taken on several vacations so I could brew my morning coffee on the road, and is now a daily fixture at my office where I brew two cups a day at work. Everything works as it is supposed to - I love that I can bring my favorite ground coffee to make it fresh at work for only pennies a cup. Small, lightweight, easy to travel with and works! What else can you ask for?

Best way to make coffee for one or two with loose grounds! Super easy to clean the filter/ fill the reservoir. Can fit up to a ~7.25 inch mug (see picture). One scoop (I use a old protein jug scoop) of grounds, fill up with the amount of coffee you want (I usually close to max out) and 2-3 min later there is a steaming hot fresh cup of joe waiting for you. I recommend it to all my friends! Plus there is no significant waist like Keurig machines. I like to keep my grounds and compost them in my garden. Enjoy!

I'm writing this review mainly for people searching to see if this will work with a smart plug. There's a lot of misinformation in the Q&A but I bought it so I could see for myself if it works. And it does. Here's the trick. The "on" button is simply an on switch (no off), but it will activate even if the machine is unplugged. This is why people write reviews stating that the machine turned on automatically when they first plugged it in. Presumably the switch was hit during shipping or setup. So, to use this with a smart plug is very simple. When putting the water and coffee in (presumably the night before, as I do), simply hit the on switch (on the coffee maker) while the smartplug is turned off. Once the smart plug turns on (assuming the next morning), the coffee maker will see that the switch is on and start brewing. This makes just as good a cup of coffee as my Cuisinart but I wanted something that would work with a smart switch to speed up my morning. This is working great so far!

Exactly what I needed! Brews a perfect mug of coffee from regular grounds. Also uses those soft pods (not keurig style), but I have not tried those. The filter and basket come out easily and are easy to clean with a quick rinse. The plastic mug is thick and sturdy, has not leaked so far, and keeps my beverage warm for at least an hour. Note, at first I was confused that I should keep the lid to the mug ON when the coffee is brewing and dripping into the mug. I brewed it with the lid OFF the first time. Well, both methods work just fine. I found that I like putting in my creamer, then brewing with the lid on, so that I can just grab the mug and be out the door. For a full mug, there is a clear "fill" line for the water. You DO have to fill the water fresh every time (the reservoir is only for a single mug's worth), but this could be done the night before if you like. You'll have to experiment with the amount of grounds that you like, as with any coffee maker. I fill the filter just under half full, and that makes a nicely strong brewed mug using off the shelf Starbucks ground coffee. Once water and grounds are in place, this is literally the easiest coffee ever - one button! Press it, the light turns on, and the light turns off when it's done. So easy! I have not tried other mugs yet, but I see no reason why they would not work, assuming they are not too wide or tall. Note, the bottom where the mug sits does not come off. It is plastic and built in. The bottom plate piece is also NOT a 'warmer', as that would burn the mug.

I ordered this because I’m the only person in my household who drinks coffee and I was sick of drinking instant powdered coffee. Upon receiving this product I was about to give a 1 star for delivery because I thought the button was mashed in and broken. But if you read the owner’s manual it says that if, once you plug in the machine, the red light is on, you need to put in water to the max line and let it run a full brewing cycle. Then pour out the hot water once the light turns off, and the button will be fully functioning! So far this product works great, just writing a review to let others know how the start button works and that it’s most likely not broken, you just need to run it once!

Perfect size, perfect temperature, perfect taste. Exactly what I wanted it to be. Received it yesterday, earlier than expected. So far, I have make 3 batches. I used regular Walmart brand medium grind coffee and used 1/8 cup, which is a standard coffee measure cup. On the first mug, I used a little filter that looks like those for bigger drip coffee pots. The taste was great and temp. was perfect. on the 2nd mug I just used the included filter basket. It also was perfect. No sludge or grounds in either mug of coffee. The mug kept my coffee hot enough for at least 30 minutes. It is a plastic mug, unsure if it could be reheated in the microwave if you are a very, slow coffee drinker. The pot automatically shuts off when it finishes dripping. saw some other reviews that preferred an on/off switch or that the heater stay on. Don't understand why because the heating element is in the maker not under the mug. It does have a start button, but it has to complete a cycle once it is pressed. I love it. I may buy another so I can have one at work and one at home.

I'm a single mom with 3 of my kids at home, and they take more energy than I thought was humanly possible. I figured I'd get a french press to treat myself. Yeah, I'm cleaning that more than I'm making coffee. So...I thought I'd look to see if there was a single-serve coffee maker that I could afford. This coffee maker delivers. No paper filters to waste, I can just collect the grounds if I want to, the grounds are easy to get out, and the entire coffee maker is easy to clean. I recommend this to EVERYONE I know who is looking for a single-serve coffee maker.

I do love this product and the Black and Decker quality. No need for K cups. I can use and enjoy my normal ground coffee. Exactly what I wanted. I had one like it for a number of years that I used daily. When ir finally had to be replaced, I ordered a similar one from a different brand here. It offered a pretty color, which I liked. But that one (not Black and Decker) was a disappointment in many ways and I returned it. I then bought this one, which is now my dependable go-to. Lightweight but sturdy, indicator light when brewing, and most cups can be used if you don't want to use the travel mug that comes with it. Instructions say to keep the lid on the mug when brewing, but I find it is fine without.
