I have been using a DuPont whole house water filter system in my 2500 sq foot house with a private well. The filter works great and does exactly what I was hoping it would. this was a good alternative to buying the DuPont brand replacement cartridges and was a good value. I change them every 3 months and find that it gets really dirty at the 3 month mark. Our previous home was smaller and we were able to get 6 months out of each of them.

I've used these several times now and they seem to do a better job with well water in my application vs the conventional string filters. They easily last an additional month before flow is reduced enough to need replacing. I've also noticed less sediment and other debris making it past these vs other filters.

We have a whole-house water filtration system because we have a well. Although our well water has tested negative for nasties, the pump still brings in a lot of sediment. These Filtrete versions catch a tremendous amount of particles -- so much gunk that it's scary -- and we wouldn't use anything else. Yes, they require more frequent changing because of all that they filter out, but that's worth it to know that our water is purer for it. These fit in our 14-year old Culligan cannister-type filtration system. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

use these with a whirlpool model whcf-dwhv installed about 12 years ago. good price and no problems with fitting. they last about 4-6 weeks for me. I'm on a well and the water issue is rust and odor. couple tips for installing. i let the new filter fill up slowly, maybe 30-45 seconds. this prevents the pipes from knocking, which can stir up sediment in your lines. then i run water on hot and cold in the tub, where there's no filter or aerator to get clogged up. if there's any air and sediment, it will bleed out fairly quick.

Switched to these recently after trying several filter types. We have a decent amount of iron content in the water. Safe but looks bad. The pleated paper filters let too much through, the presses filters clog quickly. These are a good balance and get decent lifespan with little let though based on the scientific ring in the toliet bowl test.

I have nasty-tasting well water. Non-carbon filters didn't do the trick. This one did. I used to have to run my drinking water through a Berkey filter, and also use Berkey-water to make ice cubes. Not anymore. At long last, I can enjoy an automatic ice-maker!

I have to use multiple filters in my house due to a high flow well that always has red clay stirred up in it. The best filtration I get is when I use one of these string filters as the first line of defense (so to speak). I have to change them monthly (red clay is the worst!), but my water pressure and quality is always better when I use one of these first.

I stumbled upon this brand and vendor while searching for other filters. They did not come up in the main search for water filters, so the vendor may need to look at their search-keywords. The best kept secret? The price for two. I have been paying more than double that for just one final-stage filter. Definitely keepers. as we have to change filters about every 20-days. We have a 400-ft well and Iron sediment and Iron Bacteria mean frequent filter changes so finding lower cost filters that work well, (pun intended) is always a great thing. I have just ordered a second set after testing the first purchase for a few months. We have a three-stage filter set up with, 30-Micron, 5-micron and then this Carbon Wrap and I have to say, I am VERY impressed and we are VERY happy with the water clarity and taste. We still have to change the first and second stage (30M and 5M) at around 20days but this last change, I left this Carbon Wrap in to see how long we can get out of it before it needs changing out. So far it has been 35 days and still no major pressure drop with clear and fresh tasting water.

Charcoal is great, but these are less expensive, and the water comes back sweet, fresh and clean. It's a wonder a string filter can be so efficient and effective. Buy the chemical purifier and run it through the whole house filter casing empty of filters. Flush 3-4 times and install these great string filters for 6 months plus of filtered water.

I've tried a few different styles of filters for my unit outside. My well water is high in iron and other minerals. Other filters have become slimy and give a bad odor in the water in only a month or 2 (not good). These string filters however do a much better job for me. They do turn rust color from all the minerals, but the water in the house stays great tasting and clean for many months. Love these string filters.
