Saved our asses from major injury or fatality. Was traveling in Wyoming heading to Bighorn national Forest when it started snowing. I was pulling our 4500lbs airstream when we started to slide to the right. I tried to keep going but the truck tires were spinning and we kept sliding to the right on an incline. I stopped and put these chains on and walla presco problem sloved. We continued up the mountain. Putting them on when your heart is pumping and it's freezing and dark on a mountain with terrain you know nothing about will not be easy as your test run at home with no pressure and good weather. Stay clam they work. Amazing AF😁 Saved our life it seems.

I just bought my second two pairs of these for my new Jeep Wrangler Rubicon - I had two pairs for my previous Jeep, a 2005 Rubicon with BFG Duratracs in LT245/75R16. I use them to get to our off-grid cabin in the Colorado Front Range at 8,100' and that amounts to a few times each winter, most recently in mid May when almost two feet came down in a late spring snow. Yes, I can still manage to get all 4 wheels to spin even with 4 of these on and the differential lockers engaged, but that is typically when the snow is least 15" deep and I'm trying to ascend our fairly steep driveway, which is not plowed. But I don't blame the chains for that - they are a reasonable compromise between aggressive, driveable, and being easy to install and I'm not sure if larger chains would do any better when the undercarriage is in effect a snow plow. Others have complained about the spring loaded tighteners, but I've used these chains a bunch of times and have not had any breakage or damage. Longest use of them was about 10 miles - 5 in and 5 out, ascending/descending 2,000' on a forest service road. But like with any chains make sure they are well put on without twists - do the job right and the tighteners are fine. In terms of size, well, on the 2005 Jeep they installed fine if I follow my tips below. Before I did, they often seemed to be small. They aren't at least for my Jeep, but you have to do it right - if you are at all sloppy the tighteners will seem to be too short - center the diamonds on the tire. I'll edit this if I have problems on the 2017 Jeep. My only complaint is that the carry cases aren't sturdy enough and neither are the zippers - both can easily rip. Here are tips for installing them: - Dig out your tires before trying to install - I use a small avalanche shovel that I keep in the vehicle - dig them out all the way down including behind the tire. I know this should be obvious, but do it completely and thoroughly without rushing so that the tire is entirely exposed all around where it touches the snow. - Follow the instructions carefully - don't try to wing it - do it exactly as they say. Get them sorted out and untwisted before trying to install - take your time. Be careful of the tighteners - they easily snap closed and could be quite cruel to the fingers if they unexpectedly pop. Center the diamonds on the tire. - Do not hurry. You will find that if you are slow, careful and methodical they will go on easier and faster than if you try to rush. I learned these three tips by not doing them. If you follow them, you might do the job in 2 minutes per tire. If not, well, you will eventually do them anyway after you've wasted 15 minutes on the first tire and are cold and frustrated and your hands are frozen and the chains seem too darn small.

So I too was confused about which size to get for my van. Tire size: 235/60-18. The owners manual recommends getting 231905, while the sizing chart on Amazon and Auto-Trac's website recommends 232405. I called Auto-Trac to advise of the conflicting sizes and they confirmed to go with the 232405 and the CS agent stood by their sizing chart. I went ahead and ordered what the owner's manual recommended (231905) and when I opened the package, the tag on the chains (0231905) shows compatibility with 235/60R18 among other sizes. I didn't open them since I didn't have a need to put them on this past weekend but Auto-Trac needs to verify the accuracy of their sizing chart. I hope these still fit despite the conflicting model numbers. UPDATE: 3/24/20. They worked great in last week's snow storm in Norcal. Fit perfect (231905 for 235/60R18), a little snug to put on, but easy to take off. It did a great job and I'm confident of my family's safety with these. Because of recent field use and ease of installation, I have upgraded my rating from 3 stars to 5 stars!

I was skeptical of the chains fitting my truck as many have complained that the size guide does not accurately give the correct part number for a tire size. Upon receiving the chains, I tried them on my truck. The instructions are pretty good, nice pictures with good labels. I like that it is printed on weather-resistant material so that it can be used during poor weather fitment. The chains were easy to install. I was able to fit one wheel in about 20 minutes for my first time following the instructions. It is critical to get the cable on the back of the tire well-centered. Without doing this, I can see how one might find it impossible to connect the last tensioner. So far so good...let's hope if I ever need to use them that their durability is as good as the instructions and fitment.

I purchased these for my 2015 Ford F250 FX4. They can be a bit of a pain to put on, the fit is very tight. I understand that is because they fit a range of tires, and this would be the case with any set of chains, so no problem there. And once you are rolling, they settle in and tension nicely. They seem to be made of quality materials, and after putting about ten miles on them in the mountains of Montana, I've yet to have any issues with the automatic tension system. While driving through Yellowstone National Park recently, I was forced to stop for some Bison on the road. The road was slanting toward a ridge and was completely covered with ice. When I tried to begin moving, the rear wheels lost all traction and the back end began sliding toward the ridge. Fortunately 4WD was already engaged and I got just enough traction to control the front, and ended facing up against the angle of the road. Now, I was completely blocking the lane and couldn't risk trying to straighten out. If I had been carrying conventional chains, I would have been in deep trouble. With the diamond pattern design and tensioner set-up, I was able to put these chains on without moving the tires. Even had a guy write down what kind of chains I had, he was so impressed with how "easy" they went on. Once the chains were in place, I simply backed up to get some room, then navigated the turn without further issue. Considering my entire family was in the truck, no one got hurt, no damage to the truck, I'm glad I made this purchase. I also was forced to drive on dry pavement for a few miles until I could pull off and remove the chains. I of course went very slow, and found no visible damage to the chains when I inspected them at home. Good product for sure!

I was wary of buying these chains without any Amazon reviews to go off of, but I read reviews and forum comments from other sources on the web to find that Peerless makes a great product. I made the leap, and I am extremely happy with what I got. First, I'll give you the positives, then I'll list a couple of negatives or potential negatives. FITMENT & INSTALL - I have a Tacoma with 31/10.5/R15's, matched my tire size to the correct Peerless product using the convenient fitment guide provided (at least at this time) on the Amazon product page (there is also a fitment guide on the Peerless website, I double-checked because I'm paranoid like that). The installation process is lined out in 6 steps with the provided installation guide, and it takes me about a minute to 90 seconds per tire to get the chains on. The small amount of slack that will be in the chains to begin with will quickly be worked out after a couple hundred feet or less. I usually double-check after rolling for a while to be sure the ratcheting system is working properly, but I haven't run into any problems yet. ****** EDIT ****** - After reading some of the reviews that followed mine, I realized a lot of people are having fitment issues. I would advise taking the recommendation of other users and sending Peerless an e-mail before purchasing these chains online just to be sure these will fit your tires. Certain tires sizes have multiple chain sizes that are listed as compatible. Sending Peerless an e-mail would remove the guess work on your part and potentially prevent a future headache. Remember, chains will only work if they fit. ****** END EDIT ****** TRACTION - Traction is great. Full disclosure, I'm not extremely experienced with chains. I live in the desert, and there are only one or two occasions a year that I can bring these chains up to the snow country and have some fun. The vast majority of the time, I don't need them, but it's comforting to know that they're ready and willing if such a challenge arises that I need to use them. So far, they have not let me down, and I can't imagine a situation in which they would fail me and a different chain would succeed. RIDE QUALITY - Ride quality is fair to good, considering the effect that snow chains typically have on ride quality. The links are low profile, and the diamond pattern provides a much smoother ride than typical radial chains. Compared to a large-linked radial chain, riding on these chains is like floating on a cloud. Compared to other diamond patterned chains or V patterned cables, I think the ride is par for the course. NEGATIVES - There are two problems with these chains, in my opinion. First, I believe the price on Amazon is more expensive than what you might be able to find these chains for at Walmart (or a comparable retail store). When I was searching the web for information on these chains, I found a number of people who purchased them for $50-$65 in-store. My problem was that I bought these in a pinch where Amazon was a faster option than Walmart. If you gotta have 'em, you gotta have 'em. If you have time, shop around before you purchase from Amazon. You might be able to find a better deal. Second, I believe these chains might be more prone to breakage than a heavier-duty chain. Take that with a grain of salt, however. The few times I have been able to bring these chains out of the bag, they have held up just fine. I have experienced no breakage. I just feel like that build quality and components are such that if you have to use chains multiple times per year, you might be better served buying a more "premium" snow chain without an auto-tightening system (always the weakest component). Ratchets don't last forever. ****** EDIT ****** The price on Amazon has fluctuated wildly since my purchase. I have seen them as low as $65, and as I am writing this, they are $107. Please do your research if you want to be sure you're getting the best deal. ****** END EDIT ****** If you're looking for a low-profile, low-cost, effective traction device that is easy to install and remove, I think this it.

I had trouble getting these on at first. The tires I was using these on were the largest of the several tires these chains were able to fit. I was eventually able to get the chains connected by rocking the car just enough to allow the chains to get under the edge of the tire. The customer service person I contacted a t peerless not only tried to help me during the call but continued to follow up during New Years weekend. Her efforts are what companies should hope to see from their customer service people. That level of effort isn’t what you see out in this cold email world anymore in customer service. They were fantastic. As for the chains, the trip to the mountains in NC would have been a disaster without these chains. The house we rented in Seven Devils NC was down miles of steep snow and ice and the 200 ft driveway was straight up. There was no chance I was getting up there without chains (barely made it with chains!). It snowed significantly the night before we arrived and flurries during the week. The temp went down to -3 and never got above 25 for the week. The chains were tight and with frozen hands were hard to get on if they weren’t in the exactly perfect place on the tire but once hooked the auto adjusters worked perfectly and were a far cry better than the traditional chains that the other car in out party was using. He had to adjust them after 20 ft getting out in the cold again! In short I couldn’t be happier with these chains or the fantastic customer service I received when I had trouble getting them on!

2 days before a trip up north, look at weather, 3 out of 4 days chance of snow storm 80%. Despite having a 2-wheel FWD SUV that could easily handle the snow - no chance actually - I decided to get these guys because it was 'automatic adjustment'. So 3 days later we're stuck 3 ft deep in fresh pow pow which would be great except the mountains now closed, hypothermia has set in, and its whiter out than Tony Montanas house parties. So after a good 30 minutes of digging snow out, I whip these out and go full send. Super tight fit but it worked and within second I was cruisin' in the winterpacolypse. Roads get better so go to the task of taking them off, which really wasn't hard at all, just like the video showed. But then we get to our cabin which is on an incline and covered in snow. I say f*** it and send it only to get stuck, start sliding backwards and smacked a tree, super tight. So again, shoveled snow away, tucked these guys under, and got them on. Once again, no traction problem at all whatsoever. All in all if you skipped that story, go back and read it, then come down here and you'll realize these are the chains you've been waiting for, not the kind of chains you get with a ring.

These chains are great. I used it for my 2018 Kia Sorento EX during a trip to Mammoth March 2018. They work great at are easier to install as time goes by. It was very tricky when I used it the first time. I actually practiced at home once on one wheel (front driver wheel) before actually using it in Mammoth Mountain. The thing I noticed is that the first time I used the chains, my passenger side self-tightening fasteners were facing inside. Well, I didn't have time to think too much about it because it was freezing outside. We used it for 3 days in Mammoth and it worked great. I used the chains again to Running Springs in December 2018. I decided to practice installing it again at home and this time, with both tires. WOW! Amazing what a couple practices can do... the fasteners are actually facing outside for both sides. I realized I needed to really think about how I am turning the chains. DUH! The chains are still in tact and in perfect condition. Glad I purchased it before heading to the mountains. It was priced very reasonably.

I live in Florida and had no experience driving in the snow. We went to Banner Elk, North Carolina, for Xmas, driving our Toyota Highlander - Front Wheel Drive. Thank God we bought these chains! There was no way to climb up that steep hill to go to the house we rented in Banner Elk. The road was icy and our car was slipping so much we could not move forward on the hill. Then I put these magic chains!!! I felt like driving a tractor! Like magic, my car had great traction!!! I could drive like I was on the asphalt... First time I put the chains it took me like 15 min as I was not very used to it. But after the 3rd time, It took me like 5 min max. These chains are very easy to put and seem to be very strong. I loved the auto-adjust feature as it makes everything much easier... I really loved this purchase as it saved my vacation!
