I LOVE IT - the buttons are not a problem at all!
The stickers, markings all over, and overall complaints about the buttons are ridiculous! This alarm clock is freaking awesome! The book guides you through the setup, which is very easy. To snooze, you simply gently tap the front of the light. The light stays on but the sound turns off for 9 minutes. One is most likely awake when it's time to actually turn the unit off by pushing the button. The complaints about knocking it over or pushing the wrong button are absurd. I just purchased this alarm clock and have used it all week. I set my own schedule at work and prefer to go in early so I can come home early. However, I also like three hours of awake time before I start work, so I get up between 3:30 and 4:00am. I used to set my alarm for 2:45 and snooze for 45 minutes. With this clock, I set it for 3:30 with a 30 minute sunrise simulation at a less intense brightness. Now, I am usually awake between 3:10 and 3:20 before the birds (in the clock) start chirping. So I already gained 30 minutes of sleep there. Next week, I will try to set it for 4:00 and gain another 30 minutes! And about that sunrise simulation, I love that you can adjust the time from 20 to 40 minutes and the intensity as well. Full brightness is too bright for me. So I cut the brightness in half which is perfect. I wake when it's in the orange phase. I love that I don't need a startling sound to wake me up in the morning anymore. I love that I don't have to wake up in the pitch black of night anymore. This clock will be great for waking during Maine winters when the sun is out for less than 8 hours a day. Also, for all of you before-sleep readers that fall asleep with your light on. Not anymore! I always fell asleep with my light on and would wake up 3 hours later to turn it off. I LOVE that when using this light at night it turns off after 30 minutes. I slept so well this last week. If you're a snooze button abuser (like I was), get this clock! It truly allows you to wake when you're body is ready to - not because of some obnoxious noise.

A Few Differences From What I Read About This Product...... See Photos~
Since this product has already been reviewed over sixteen hundred times and some quite thoroughly (thank you!), I'll keep this review short (for me). This has been one of our favorite purchases we own here from Amazon! I'll mention a few things that I think vary from what I remember reading (and I read a TON or reviews, lol) and am uploading some photos so you can get a closer look and see what I mean... First, I read some frustrations about not being able to set the time or alarms without accessing the buttons from above. I'm able to set the time and alarm times via the touch buttons on the front, below the time (see photo where buttons are lit). You can also use the upper buttons but don't have to for everything. The only thing you have to use the upper buttons for (in relation to setting alarms) is to turn an alarm off or on. For us, this isn't a daily event since we usually get up at the same times so no big deal. Second, I was under the impression from the reviews that this thing would be kind of huge but I guess that depends on what you consider large, lol. I posted a photo with it next to some small alarm clocks and a bill to give you an idea of it's size. For us, it replaces both an alarm clock and a lamp on a nightstand so it's not too large. Other than that, my wishes are few. I wish it included AM radio and didn't remember reading that it didn't (but I wasn't likely thinking I'd miss it). Sometimes I miss a little talk radio but other technology obviously suffices. Like others mention, the buttons above are out of sight from the front. Call me crazy, lol, I used a Sharpie to mark lines where the buttons are. (There's no reason for my using different colors except that I added the red lines later and that's what I had handy.) Feeling around for the buttons when you want to turn the light or radio on, off, up or down, is just annoying. When I finally buy a yellow or orange Sharpie it'll look more like sun rays, haha... And rubbing alcohol rubs it right off anyway. The last two photos show all of the upper buttons, all the way around. Lastly, the snooze sensitivity is too high for my preference. If I set down a cup of coffee near it, during the alarm time, it snoozes the radio off. I could change the settings for no snooze but I like waking up to radio and having the option of touching it for more quiet time. If I softly close a drawer below it, same thing, it snoozes. I'm generally not this generous with 5 star ratings but overall I think the good heavily outweighs the bad and I definitely love this product. We've had ours for 5 months without problems but I'll update this review if anything changes. We live in the grey Seattle area and the sunshine this thing brings us makes it the best alarm we've owned. Smile. Buy with confidence. Hope this is helpful!

... two and a half years and still very much enjoy it. I find it is most helpful in ...
I have owned this alarm for two and a half years and still very much enjoy it. I find it is most helpful in the winter, when it is still dark when I wake up, but it is a nice alarm clock year round. There was a time when I stopped using the sound feature and just used the light feature combined with my phone alarm because I got tired of the available alarm sounds. However, I soon recalled the radio setting and have come to enjoy that. The fact that the snooze works by just tapping the front of the lamp is also really nice. I really like that it turns the sound off but not the light. I also really enjoy it as a lamp at night since the brightness is completely adjustable. I don't tend to use the sunset setting, however. But I like to have a dim bedside lamp while reading before going to sleep. When I first got the alarm it was completely magical. I would wake up before the light was even completely on. I raved about it for weeks. Over time that effect has faded and I tend to not wake up until it is all the way on. But it has still improved my wake up routine dramatically. Combined with my breville tea maker that automatically brews me a pot of tea every morning....I am a bit closer to being a morning person. :)

This thing is perfect. I'm reading more
This thing is a game changer! I got it because I got tired of being owned by my phone. It used to be the last thing I checked before going to bed, and the first thing I would check in the morning. No more. Now I can leave the phone charging across the room (or in a handbag even. Who cares?) I can set this for the "sun to set" at 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes later. So I set it, and I get in bed and read a book for an hour. Then the "sun goes down" gradually, and I go to bed. Eight hours later, the "sun" starts coming up gradually. So gradually, that at the beginning, you don't even notice. And you can set sounds in addition to the "sunrise" effect: birds chirping, ocean waves, classical music, or FM radio (although why on Earth would you choose FM radio?) You can set two different wake up "alarms". It doesn't even feel right to call them alarms, because it's not obnoxious or loud. It doesn't jolt you awake. You wake up gradually. This thing is perfect. I'm reading more, sleeping a lot better, and I don't even remember anymore to grab my phone to check social media in the mornings. In fact, sometimes I'll be at the office, and it'll be noon before I realize I left my phone in the car. Drop the dependency on cell phones. It's ridiculous. We're like that movie, Wall E. Get this and improve your life and your quality of sleep.

Oh my god - this lamp has changed my life
I live in Minneapolis where it gets dark very early in the winter and is usually dark when I wake up for work. After the time change this year, I noticed that my depression and willingness to get out of bed went out the door. While I manage my SAD and depression very well, I had heard of these types of lamps and got this one as it was recommended by a friend. I'm not kidding - I have felt better every morning when I wake up because of it. It very gently starts the 'sunrise' affect so that you may notice it gently which simulates the summer sunrise. I did start using the beach noise option but my cats thought there were seagulls in my bedroom (lol) so now I use the radio and the volume of the radio gradually increases with the light. The other nature sounds are also very tame and not obnoxious. My overall mood has increased ten-fold. It's unbelievable. It doesn't even look like a weird alarm sitting on my nightstand. It looks simple with the digital time in orange. If you are suffering from the winter blues and need a little help with your mood getting up in the morning, this lamp is worth every cent. I initially had a hard time being willing to spend over $100 on a lamp/alarm, but you will not regret this purchase. The days dreading waking up with a harsh alarm reminding me to get up and put on a thousand layers to go shovel snow are gone. Seems ridiculous but my mental state has truly improved. Highly recommend.

Worth it - huge difference in my sleeping patterns
I did a few weeks of research before deciding whether to buy this product. It is rather expensive for an "alarm clock", if you choose to look at it that way. However - for me its much more than that. I struggle to wake up in the morning - especially in the winter months when the sun isnt up yet when my alarm goes off. This alarm clock will begin to turn on (starts as an amber light and slowly becomes bright white) about 30 mins before your set time to wake up. After a week I could tell the difference in how I felt in the morning. I am not a huge fan of the alarm sounds that come with it (something that sounds like seagulls - kind of offputting because it sounds like birds feasting on bread crumbs on the boardwalk or something) but just the increasing light coming from it over that course of 30 mins eases me into waking up. You can also use an AM FM tuner as part of the alarm if you'd like. eventually it was like clockwork the way i comfortably woke up 15 mins before the light would be at its brightest. It also works at night as you can do the reverse before bedtime. Have it slowly dim down to darkness before bedtime. I didnt use this as much as i dont have an issue falling asleep - although scientifically speaking its better to slowly dim light before bedtime instead of abruptly going from the lights on to pitch black. At first i thought maybe it was a placebo effect - but i went a couple weeks without it because I let someone borrow it - and i could tell the diff when i woke up. I was a bit more groggy. Sleep is very important. Some of us find ourselves waking up and feeling like we didnt sleep at all - me being one of them. This product honestly changed a lot of that. It was worth the $. It also doubles as a decent light source - as i dont have a lamp in my room.

The Best Alarm Clock EVER.
Read this if you are NOT a morning person. Disclaimer: ahead is an unnecessarily lengthy and entirely over exaggerated description of a mediocre moment in my life. Enjoy! This week I decided I needed a change. I began my search for something refreshing to kick start my mornings. So, I bought a new alarm clock called the Wake Up Light. If you don't know what I'm talking about, prepare to be amazed, dear friend. It's an orb shaped apparatus that you set to the desired wake up time just like a regular alarm clock. However, unlike the traditional concept of inducing a mild heart attack with harsh blaring or ringing, this one will gently wake you by emitting light. This starts 30 minutes before you need to get out of bed and take charge of your life. At the beginning, it starts out as a soft red glow, and gradually increases over those 30 minutes into a bright white light. The idea is for this to simulate a sunrise. Pretty fancy, right? In the words of the great Billy Mays (may he Rest In Peace) "BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE!" This fantastically designed sphere of happiness gives you 5 peaceful alarm options to choose from as well. I chose the birds chirping, because who doesn't want to wake up feeling like Snow White surrounded by her fuzzy critter friends? I am 100% serious when I say that I felt just like that this morning. I wanted to go outside and dance in the puddles while wearing a dress made of rose petals hand stitched by fairies, meanwhile spinning around in circles and singing to all of the cute little forest dwellers. Side note: I don't actually live anywhere near the forest, but you get the point. Before this wonderful ball of light entered my life in an Amazon Prime box by the front door, I was absolutely appalled by my iPhone alarm sounding off every morning. Why? Well, I'm so glad you asked! Simply because every evening, I would beg my iPhone to wake me at 6:30 the following morning. I would open my clock app and politely slide the small grey buttons, revealing a green bubble that indicated my request had been processed and approved. However, despite my nightly requests, the iPhone failed me time after time. (I hate to break it to you Apple, but your alarms are ineffective and no match for a heavy sleeper like me.) Eventually, the amount of green lights illuminating from my cellular device became excessive and quite frankly, annoying. In order for me to wake up at 6:30, my alarms began going off at 5:00 and continued in 5-10 minute increments. I know what you're thinking, and yes, it was absolutely necessary to set that many alarms. Even so, my mornings usually began with my barely open eyes searching for the small rectangle of malevolence called "Audrey's iPhone". My sleepy eyes along with my sheet creased arms would move in unison on the bedside table to try and locate the device. My finger eagerly detected and pressed the side button demanding it cease production of the vile screeches overflowing into my bedroom and filling my ears. Once I had triumphantly silenced the alarms, I would squint at the clock with my tangled hair obstructing my already blurred vision. With hopes of seeing the screen display 6:30, I would be crushed by the reality that I had once again overslept. 7:00 would begin mocking me on the screen, as I fumbled through the dark reciting my traditional panicked morning chant, "Oh, no I'm going to be so late!" This every morning routine was beginning to have a negative impact on my poor husband as well. I am sure he was losing sleep because of this, even though he would never admit it. Not to mention, the funky intro to Brass Monkey on repeat can bring even the biggest Beastie Boys fan to the point of nearing a psychotic break, but I digress. Today was different. Even though I went to sleep at the ungodly hour of 2:00, this morning was an awakening accompanied by true peace and serenity. The light began its ascent to full illumination at 6:00. Although I did not stir at this point, I sat up fully awake at exactly 6:16. This glorious clock had not even fully completed the process of gently pulling me away from my dream, yet there I was, awake, baffled, and overwhelmed with joy. I attempted to fall back asleep and indulge in the remaining 14 minutes of sleep, but, alas, I could not. This clock had defeated me. Without a single shred of resentment toward my new favorite device, I left the comfort of my bed, and let the dogs outside with a smile on my face. I was ready to conquer this Friday, and I had my new alarm to thank for it. No longer are my days of sleeping past the time I should have already been on my way to work. No longer are my days of distaste for the iPhone. No longer are the days I wake up startled and confused. Thank you, Philips for your wonderful, life changing creation. If you are anything like me, please do yourself a favor and purchase one of these immediately. Seriously, you will (obviously) not regret it.

You are my sunshine, my winter sunshine...
This has really made a big difference in how I wake up every morning. On these short winter days, I always have to wake up before sunrise, and that's...challenging. I found myself hitting the snooze button at least three times, leaving very little time for me to get ready and to work on time. Having the sunrise simulation wakes me up gradually and completely. I almost always wake up fully before the music starts and I have not needed the snooze function yet. It does help that I put the lamp on a tall dresser across from my bed (also eliminating triggering the overly sensitive snooze function that other reviewers mentioned). I read the instructions as I was setting up the lamp and it was straightforward and easy. All of the wake up sounds were pleasant. I especially like the birdsong with flute music, as it reminds me of being in a spa. I like the dusk option for going to sleep. I set it for 30-60 minutes and read until it's too dark and I drop off to sleep. An additional bonus is that since I'm no longer using my cellphone as my alarm clock, I practice better sleep hygiene and keep my cellphone out of the bedroom. It is a significant investment but it has been worth it.

Wake up next to the sun!
I bought this after thorough research into the product. It was hard to argue with the overwhelming positive reviews but the price tag was still difficult to swallow. I have a job that is early and I have never in my life been a morning person. I did finally purchase after the newer version had been released and there was a price reduction plus a coupon from amazon. The newer version does address all of the gripes everyone else has had about this product, but to me they weren't worth the extra $$$. When the box arrived I thought it was one of Amazon's "We ran out of the right size box so we used the next size up" scenarios. Opened the box. Sa the products box. This thing was much larger than I was expecting. The front face is about the size of my face. Its shape is similar to those funky colored iMac monitors when I was a kid. Needless to say I had to figure out where I was going to put this thing. Next came set up. It was easy enough. I don't know why everyone else is choosing birds in the forest??? I picked ocean sounds... which may be almost as irritating because of the sea gulls but the waves make up for it. I set the brightness and sound all the way up and waited for morning. Let me also state I am absolute garbage at waking up in the morning. This isn't just a sunrise simulation, it is like the sun is IN your bedroom. I woke up FIFTEEN minutes before my alarm went off. I adjusted the brightness down to 17 and it has worked out much better. I don't use the radio to wake up to, but I have used it occasionally while hanging out in the room. I haven't even uncoiled the antennae and the radio station I prefer comes in perfectly! I understand some of the issues other people have with this thing. I can see how people are knocking theirs over, mine isn't on a nightstand but inside of a display case that is next to my side of the bed so I can't swipe at it. I do more of a jabbing motion to turn it off. I don't lose power often to be annoyed by resetting the alarm. I didn't use my own music to wake up to before so I haven't felt a need to plug my phone in. The upgrades between this version and the newer one do seem nice, but not necessary which is why I stuck with this model. The sunset does work well! Usually when I turn it on I'm out before its off. Overall a great product I'd recommend to anyone that is also garbage at waking up.

I really like this wake-up light!
I wasn't too sure about this wake-up light when I ordered it. It's a lot of money for an alarm clock and it's pretty large....almost 8" in diameter. But I kept an open mind and set it up as the instructions stated. I had absolutely no problem setting the clock up. In fact, I could have done it without instructions. The only problem I have with the instructions is that they do not state how to use sound with the go-to-sleep function. You first set up the go-to-sleep function, and when you are ready to use it you must turn the radio on first. It only works with the radio; it does not work with the nature sounds. That's a bummer, but since I have a great Sound+Sleep machine I'm okay with that. I am not fond of alarm clocks. Heck, I'm not fond of having to get up at a certain time, but since I have to work I have to get up. What a pleasant way to wake up! I absolutely love this light. I used it on Sunday morning with the second alarm programmed for 8:30, because I hate sleeping away the weekend. I have it set for a 20-minute duration and found I woke up about ten minutes into it. I dozed off for another ten minutes and then the birds started singing. I woke up gently and in a good mood....even on Monday. :) It is well worth the money!
