I've made several batches of takoyaki now. This is much better (and proper) way of making takoyaki, as opposed to what I was doing prior, which is improvising using a cakepop maker. The takoyaki pan has grooves running up and down and laterally between the takoyaki chambers, so after pouring the batter, just trace using a bamboo stick or takoyaki poker to divide the batter, just jam it in that notch and trace. So easy! And no doubting yourself whether or not one takoyaki had more batter than the one next to it. I also like the sturdy construction of this takoyaki pan. It's built to last. Sometimes good octopus and fresh octopus is not easy to get in Los Angeles. I pulled from the takoyaki Git repository and made a fork to the default recipe, replacing octupus with BACON. I call this creation BACOYAKI. What you do is this, cut a couple of bacon strips into good bite sizes. Then, before adding any batter, place a bacon chunk into each takoyaki (bacoyaki?) chamber. Let each bacon piece cook somewhat, but not too much, just enough to develop some color. If a piece of bacon is exceedingly fatty, soak it up using some kitchen paper. At this point go ahead and pour the batter as you normally would, and make the BACOYAKI as you normally would. Enjoy!!!

probably the best takoyaki pan in this size. it has embedded cutting lines so it’s easy to find under batter. pan is non stick so flipping the takoyaki is so simple. price was ok

Very nice design! I posted on FB and my friends asked me where I bought it. I told them to wait for me trying the pan out first. I love how fast the heat transfer and easy to wash. What I love MOST is I have a gas stove and the pan sit on rack nicely and secured with all 4 corners! This is what I haven't thought of. The grid lines helps a lot on dividing the batter evenly into each cavity. It is my first time making takoyaki and I am very confident my 2nd batch will be perfect since I am pretty much got a good idea how to flip the balls around and how long to cook them.

This is an aluminum pan, but it's built thick and tough. Honestly, it weighs almost as much as a cast iron version, but has a spectacular non-stick coating those all lack. It's easy to use on a standard gas stove. Just keep your burner about Medium, and use an infrared thermometer to hold the pan about 400F. I made pancake balls as a test, and had no problems turning with a bamboo skewer. I then made takoyaki, and nailed it on my first try. This was probably not related to skill. Honestly, the pan gets the win. Cleanup with the non-stick was easy as blasting it down in the sink. That was a win for me.

IWATANI TAKOYAKI Grill pan cooking plate CB-P-TAF I'm very pleased with the quality of this item. I suspect those negative reviews for "knock-off" items must not be about the same item or from the same seller. When ordering, make sure to order the item marked as "IWATANI TAKOYAKI Grill pan cooking plate CB-P-TAF by Iwatani : Sold by Tokyo Wind and Fulfilled by Amazon." At 8-inch x 8-inch (8 x 10 inches including handles) and 1.65 lb, it has a sold feel, very similar to waffle maker. Diameter of the hole is approx. 1 and 5/8 inches / 40 mm. Here is the list of features I like about this Takoyaki grill pan. The 4 notches on the bottom corners align with the gas burner grate for secure placement. The 8 mm lip on the surface helps prevent batter spills. Easy clean and use, non-stick surface. (Be sure to use non-abrasive utensils) The ridge details between the holes simplifies the task of separating batters. Note: Mine didn't come with English instructions. The instructions and batter recipe are printed on the back of the product box in Japanese. (See photo). You can use pancake/waffle batter on this, too!

Great product, especially like the raised lip and the grooves in between the holes. I used mine on a gas hob and it was unstable on the trivet; fortunately it fitted securely on the wok burner attachment that came with the hob. Learnt the lesson to not use too big a piece of filling (cube of fresh salmon instead of octopus) as the batter needs to fully envelop the filling, otherwise the filling pops out when you try to turn the balls. The second batch were almost perfect! Can't wait to try dessert versions using pancake or waffle mix filled with fruit!

I ordered this after reading some reviews on another website that this can be used on an electric stove. I live in an apartment so I have no access to gas. It came with a full sheet of instructions and a recipe. I've wanted to try this dish forever so getting to make it was a dream come true. It definitely takes some practice but the pan is great. I would recommend using the middle wells if using electric for most even cooking. I used vegetable oil as well.

Great pan for making Takoyaki. For someone who's never made Takoyaki before I was able to handle it just fine with this pan. Very sturdy and heat evenly on my electric stovetop. Easy to use and clean. Feels like it's going to last a lifetime.

I've made Takoyaki several times since purchasing this. It works great! Just put a little bit of oil in each one and brush it along the tops as well, it makes for a much easier spin. It says to only use with a specific burner, but I use mine on a flattop electric stove and it works great. Definitely worth the purchase! I'm sure it could be washed in a dishwasher, but it's really easy to wash by hand with the non-stick coat. I imagine using a dishwasher might deteriorate the non-stick coat over time.

I ordered this grill for my party. It cooked quickly and kept my guests entertained. You may need to practice a couple of times to make the perfect Takoyaki; however, it is easy. Make sure that you place the grill in a right direction. I recommend this product for Takoyaki lovers.
