SIZE 9 LADIES takes a SIZE SMALL.....NOT a medium
I am a LADIES SIZE 9. The boot on the RIGHT is a MEDIUM and its the tall version. The boot on the LEFT is a size SMALL and the short version (best for foot and ankle surgeries). If I were a size 10, I might opt for the medium because, as you can see, as a size 9, my toes come all the way to the end of a size small. I am very happy with the small. I will be wearing this for 3 months, at least. I think the sizing they use is meant for men sizes, to be honest. A medium was in no way the proper size to fit my size 9 foot....I'd be tripping every time I took a step! All in all it was a great purchase and will serve me well.

Good air cast, very comfortable, and short vs. tall boot details
This short air cast fits the same foot dimensions as the taller air cast from United Surgical. This is the short air cast from United Ortho/United Surgical and measures 13.5" from floor to top of highest point of its inside sock. The tall air cast is the "Stabilizer Air Walker Standard" from United Ortho/United Surgical and measures 17.25" from floor to top of boot. Otherwise the dimensions around the foot are the same. The weight is about the same for both boots (the weight is largely in the base of the boot). Both provide a sturdy, grippy sole and allow you to easily "walk" (actually limp) with your weight mostly in the heel of your foot. The short air cast does allow the ankle to flex more than the tall cast which really immobilizes the ankle well. If you need immobilization around the ankle area, get the tall cast. On the other hand, if you have something more toward the front of the foot, such as a metatarsal fracture, especially in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th metatarsal, the short cast works well without overly constricting your ankle. I have a displaced 5th metatarsal fracture, and I found this cast more comfortable than the Aircast brand for my particular injury. Unlike this United Surgical air cast, the Aircast brand air cast seemed to place more weight balanced toward the front of the foot, plus its "hang weight" on the front of my foot/metatarsals was too much. FWIW, my foot is a women's size 7.5-8 wide and I have the Medium size United Surgical cast in both short and tall boots. In both of these boots, my toes end about 2" short of the end of the hard sole portion of the cast. This is good, as I have banged the front of the cast occasionally and not had any issue with doing that. If my foot had been too close to the end of the cast, hitting the front of the cast on anything might have further injured my foot. Also, with the medium size there is plenty of room for my foot to swell without the cast being too tight.

As happy as you can be with a stress fracture!
Thank you to other reviewers who gave information that helped me decide to bring this boot into my life. It is helping me heal and giving me peace of mind during the process. Most helpful was the personal reports on sizing. I am a woman who has size 11 shoes but buys running shoes a size up, either womens 11.5 or mens size 10. I have never considered myself a medium in anything! So I was tending to size large, which seemed a good idea based on most reviews. I am glad I went with the size large boot. Actually it fits just how I would like, not too bit nor too small. My toes do not stick out the front of the boot but they are coming to the edge of the inner soft wrap portion, which is comfortable. I have a stress fracture from running. It is on the inside ankle of my left foot. The first week, I had a lot of pain and some swelling, so I worried the boot would be too painful to wear if it touched the ankle at all. I put the cushioned inner wrap on extremely carefully and not very tightly. I was able to put the outer shell of the boot on without pain. Although I had very limited mobility the first week, to avoid pain, I felt the immobilization feature immediately started helping my ankle bone by reducing strain on it. My foot also felt protected. I felt less anxiety because my foot was enclosed in this giant pillow and protective boot. The boot inflation aspect seemed a mystery to me but reviews on the non-inflated variety of boot suggested some people wished they had gotten this version. My boot came with some inflation already happening. I deflated it gently to first fit it to my foot. I'd say I have not inflated it very tightly anyway. I just added enough inflation to cushion and stabilize my heel, so that there is limited movement of my foot within the boot. As for this being a "walking boot," that isn't as easy as it looks. I needed crutches to support movement. I guess you can walk on it as you recover more - or maybe it depends on the person and the injury. The boot is heavier than a snow boot but I didn't have expectations on this issue. I chose not to sleep in it, but wore it during the day for weeks. Overall I am super pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to people who think it will give them a better way to heal a stress fracture. I had a stress fracture 14 years ago and cannot understand why the doctor did not suggest a boot straight away. I don't see any down side. Ending pain and getting your weight off your injured foot is a sure way to assist healing.

MIRACLE ROBO-BOOT
Thanks to this boot I was able to heal so much faster while not giving up my life to do so. It is my miracle Robo-Boot. I fail to understand why hospitals and doctors aren't handing these out automatically. Crutches? What is there purpose beyond creating more misery, problems and pain? The ankle wraps cut off circulation so that wasn't much help. I kept getting elephant foot and ended up hurting my opposite foot / ankle in the process because I was putting all kinds of wrong pressure on it. It wasn't until I got this boot that I started walking properly and began healing! Yeah, the RICE method worked some but it only helped to a certain point. Sorry, but too many of us have too much going on like needing to take care of families or work and a sprained ankle, no matter how serious, can't stop life from happening. I'm telling you, this was one of the best investments I've made in a long while. It's mine now and I'm never letting it go but I'll share.

Got my arms back
I sprained my ankle and foot while running. (self diagnosed, with input w/o exam from PA friend). This boot got my off crutches and gave me back the ability to do laundry, cook, grocery shop, and perhaps most importantly, decorate my Christmas tree. I have been wearing it with a fairly thick wool sock, and it is quite comfortable wearing it all day. The more I change activity, the better it is. If I sit too long without walking, it tightens a bit. If I walk too much without resting, the foot "tires." I would rather walk than stand while wearing it, as standing puts pressure in one spot. However, that it true even in normal conditions. I do not wear it sleeping. Regarding sizing: I wear a women's 8.5 street shoe and 9.5 to 10 running shoe. I read all the reviews and opted for a medium, considering that I have a wide foot, and would be wearing thick socks in the winter. The inner boot fits just fine, and my big toe comes right to the edge without sticking out at all. The platform is rather long, extending 1.5 inches beyond my big toe, but this is not a problem at all with walking, standing, or moving foot around. Just for comparison, after I had this for a week and was quite happy, I decided to order the small to see if it would be lighter or a better fit. The platform of the small fit my foot perfectly. It might have actually been a bit too short if I had ended up walking around all day. However, I believe it would have been OK. The inner boot appeared to fit as well. It was snugger than the medium size, and had less to wrap over, which I initially thought was a good thing. However, when I walked, the front upper Velcro closure opened, not all the way, but enough that it released the pressure, which is the whole point of wearing the boot. Also, it felt too short on my leg, and I am only 5'2. So, my recommendations: If you are size 8.5, order up to medium. If you have muscular legs and are at the cusp of sizes, order up. There was so much difference between the small and the medium, that there it would be nice if there were an in between size.

Great customer service
When I broke a bone in my foot the only thing the clinic had was the tall boot which left bruises and was fairly uncomfortable. So I got on Amazon and ordered this shirt boot. (Btw, my doctor was astounded at the price. The place they ordered theirs must charge a heck of a lot more) Anyway, when I got the boot the air pump didn't work. I had no choice, just went ahead and wore it without saying anything. The company contacted me via email and asked if I was satisfied with their product and I told them about the air pump. They apologized and immediately shipped me out another, no charge. It arrived today and is perfect. The boot works and their customer service rocks.

A Lifesaver!
I bought this boot because I had a bad ankle/foot sprain. The doctor suggested that I buy a boot like this to support my ankle. Dr. said it would be around $500. I found this, the price was right, it seemed to be what I was looking for. The only thing I hesitated on was the size. So I took the time to read all the reviews and product specifications and bought a small. (I normally wear a 7 1/2 to 8 wide) When it came in the mail I couldn't wait to try it on. It didn't fit. I almost cried. So I walked away. Came back to it later. I undid all the straps and took the inside out. Then I realized that the air could be taken out of the inflatable part. Once I did that, and put it back on, it fif like a charm. You can still pump the air back in to add more support, but do it after you have the boot on. This boot has been a real lifesaver. I am very grateful to have this product. I've had it for a month and it is holding together well. I've even been walking through wet grass and puddles with this on. I would highly recommend.

Swee Relief
When I broke my ankle, my ortho put me in a horrible boot that kept rubbing the break, and causing excruciating pain. It was insane. Instead of getting better, I was getting worse. I couldn't get them to switch me over to a cast because of the risk of blood clots. So, Amazon being the purveyor of all things, I went on Amazon, found this boot and ordered it. Sweet relief. Finally, a boot that protected and immobilized the break instead of aggravating it and causing the swelling to increase. My only regret is that I didn't order it sooner. But I figured an ortho office would give you the best boot for your injury, right? Wrong. They give you whatever generic boot they have on hand. (And probably vastly overcharge your insurance for it). If you're in a boot that's causing you more pain instead of less pain, do yourself a favor and order this one. When I first got it, my foot was hanging out the front, and I thought I had too small of a size, but then I realized that it was inflated. Once I deflated it, the boot fit perfectly.

Excellent purchase, very well made
This is a very well made and study boot. I needed a CAM (controlled ankle movement) boot to wear after foot surgery. Although my doctor’s office had them for sale, and insurance would have paid TOWARD the boot, I would have paid more than twice the cost of this boot, even with insurance coverage. And with Prime’s free shipping, I received it promptly before surgery. It’s rigid and strong but easy to put on. I wear an 8 1/2 shoe and ordered a Small, which fit perfectly. When I received this boot, the heel area was not fully pushed to the back but kind of centered on the boot form, so if this is how you receive yours, be aware that you may have more space behind your foot to push your heel back a bit. My toes were so swollen immediately after surgery, that even if I had known that, I could not push my heel back any further into the boot. And because my toes were so swollen, I could not even get the top closure to meet, even though it has Velcro, so I didn’t use the top strap across my toes at all for about the first week. It comes with several (4, I think) small rectangular foam pads that can be used in the boot for more cushioning if needed. The boot can be worn on either foot, and I was able to use the low profile, not needing the boot form up to my knee. The bottom of the boot is rounded and creates a rocking walking motion that took a little getting used to. For those who need it for ankle support, the blue ball inflates an air bladder that provides support around the ankle area; to release the air, simply turn the button to deflate. After my bandages were removed, I used my husband’s tube sock on my foot which was sufficient to eliminate any friction. This was a great purchase for an item that I hope I don’t need again.

Highly recommended
I purchased this boot because of a torn talo fibular ligament that needed time to heal. I have never had the need for a boot before and this is the first one I've owned so I can't really compare it to others. But it fits great, it's very comfortable, and with it on my ankle doesn't hurt at all. I wear a women's size 10 and the medium is a perfect fit although be warned that there isn't much room left after my big toe so if you're a women's 11 or higher you might consider the large. I especially love the feature where you can pump up air into the boot, causing the lining to swell up and "hug" your foot to the desired tightness. That combined with the soft lining and adjustable straps makes the entire thing very comfortable and secure. I'm very happy I purchased this and I'm sure it's something I'll keep for a long time (hopefully never needing it again).
