A GREAT value for money.
The Silhouette Portrait cutting machine has been an absolute delight to use. I've worked with Cricut machines in addition to other die cutters and the Silhouette Cameo (the Portrait's larger cousin) and the Portrait is, by far, the best combination of value for money. While it does require a computer to use it, if you already own a computer this is a negligible addition to its operation and it's comparable to using a printer. The Portrait is a great desktop size as well -- light and easy to transport if you're a mobile crafter and small enough to fit in a desk drawer or atop a printer or shelf for storage. The software for it is very easy to use whether you're downloading ready-made patterns or designing your own from scratch. Speaking of patterns... One of the MAJOR advantages that the Silhouette system has is its lack of physical cartridges, dies, and accessories -- you don't need to sort through drawers and bins to find that ONE pattern you're looking for, and you don't need to drop $20+ for a set of cartridges. The designs are digital and kept on your computer -- easy to search, easy to save, and simple to download with zero clutter. The only scenario I can picture where the Portrait would be less than ideal is if you need to cut 12"z12" cardstock (as this doesn't fit in the machine) or if you are uncomfortable or unable to interact with a computer program. Personally, I've never run into a time where I needed to cut 12" wide so this hasn't been an issue. So far this little baby has cut everything I've asked of it and it's done a stellar job with nice clean edges -- highly recommended if you do any sort of crafting as a scrapbooker, teacher, or artist.

Love it
Super user friendly, has multiple setting for different cuts. Software it came with is also easy to use.

So flipping happy!
I’ve had both Silhouette and Cricut! The Cricut was extremely difficult for me to understand. Plus it was online software which lagged like crazy. Returned it and bought Silhouette. This thing was like a dream compared. If you’re looking into a cutting machine Silhouette is definitely the way to go

FANTASTIC for making your own decals for model tanks and planes! And everything else too!
I use this primarily for making airbrush masks for spraying on my own decals for model tanks and planes. It works INCREDIBLY well. I cannot emphasize how amazing this machine is. Although I picked it up just for making my own spray masks, I have started to use it for so much more. Literally almost anything that you can think of that you want to cut and make, you can do it using this machine. Using Armor Etch cream, I can make custom glass etchings for gifts. I can make literally any customized gift you can ever think of. I made my mom a monogrammed tumblr. I made my girlfriend a custom sprayed bottle with her initials on it. I cannot stress how amazing this machine is!! I'm constantly impressed by how intricate of designs you can cut with it too. See my third photo, the one of the knight on the horse for details. It literally cut a fraction of a millimeter with no problem. I 100% recommend this machine.

Love it!
There are so many die cut machines and I finally bought this one. Only because of the size, outlook and software. Before I place the order, I'm not realize that the software is so so important when cutting. The silhouette studio surprised me. It is very user friendly and very powerful. I was assume that I have to open AI or Photoshop to pre process my art work. but after I know how does the studio works. I never have to do so. I cut a golden banner for the Lunar New Year. So easy and so much fun!

Still in love with this after almost four years!
I bought mine almost four years ago and I still use it all the time. The ability to use it for party decorations and cards alone makes it worth the money, but it can do so much more. I've done t-shirts with iron on transfers, cut vinyl for walls and cars, I have the silhouette write addresses on envelopes when I do invitations or Christmas cards, I cut stencils for decorating cookies, glass etching, airbrush makeup/tattoos and nails, I've made drawers for all of my beads, paper flower bouquets, so many holiday decorations, party favor boxes for a wedding...I can't even think of all of the things I've been able to do with this over the years and I babble on and on about it to anyone who will listen. I've used it so much, I'm surprised that it still works. The best part is the software. It is so easy to use to edit files or create your own. I will say, that when this one dies, I'm going to get a Silhouette Cameo because it is wider, but I love my Portrait.

Well worth the investment.
I love this machine, and it was well worth the money. I also love the fact that it fits on my desk so easily. I mainly bought it for creating stickers for marketing my online store, but it now has me thinking that I want to start an Etsy shop for planner stickers. I have so many ideas on what I want to create with this, and it is going to provide me with hours of entertainment, and the ability to create beautiful gifts and decorations for my family and friends. Over time, this machine is going to pay for itself. The one and only criticism I can give is that the instructional video provided by Silhouette really did not teach me what I needed to know. The great thing about that is there are a ton of YouTube videos that helped me figure out what to do.

and for my needs the Portrait was perfect. I craft cards and other artwork
I have been wanting to buy an electronic cutter for awhile, but they were too expensive. I read an article comparing the Silhouette Cameo to the Silhouette Portrait, and for my needs the Portrait was perfect. I craft cards and other artwork, and don't do alot of 12" X 12" scrapbooking, so the 8.5" X 11" size worked perfectly for me. I was able to find one for an excellent price on Amazon and have been extremely pleased with the performance of this machine. I have used it for all types of projects, creating my own simple designs (from the fonts already installed on my computer & basic shapes) and using the designs available via the Silhouette Design store. If you are looking for a cutter for shapes & letters, and don't mind the 8.5 " size limitation, the Portrait is an excellent machine.

In Love with my Silhouette
First time ever using a silhouette product and very pleased with my purchase. I have been looking at their products for the past two weeks and couldn't resist any longer after watching youtube videos on Silhouette products. I have been messing with it off and on today trying to learn how to use it and after a few attempts, I know what I'm doing! I failed the first few attempts because I was so excited to use it that I failed to read instructions LOL. I wanted the cameo 3 but figured I would try this out first since its cheaper then upgrade if I liked this which I do! Also kept debating whether I wanted this or their competitors but decided to get this since I've heard nothing but positive reviews on Silhouette and happy with my choice. For anyone second guessing to get this, I have never used a vinyl cutting or craft machine before today and got professional results!

Great addition to my craft business
Absolutely love the machine. I use to be a vinyl flex supervisor at a large company running an industrial grade machine like this. This does everything that one did, but on a smaller scale. Absolutely love it. When I retired I never thought I would be able to afford and operate a craft business involving these mediums, but here I am with this. Loving it!
