Used this bad-boy to put in my first staircase and it helped yield professional results. I used it to align the handrails, balusters, newels, and the treads' edges. The laser showed up great, even on the dark mahogany stained wood. Self-leveling feature worked as best one could expect. Another neat feature is with the hard plastic case; it comes with three slots to hold the three AA batteries that power the laser. Plus, the laser's battery door opens and closes with ease so it's no big deal to remove the batteries in order to avoid them leaking out between uses. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this tool to anyone.

Great tool in its price category. Was working with it for years before it was stolen from me. Bougth the same day a new one without any doubt. And in half a year the new one was stolen from me also :) Have dropped it on the floor few times and it still was ideal in level. Just a great tool for lower cost. And i must say it has a pretty nice angle of beams, in comparizon of analogs of other brands. Gives i suggest 165 degrees on angle in horizontal beam and pretty nice angle for vertical too, showing a line above it and even slightly behing. well for professionals i cannot suggest it anymore, the pro must have a more powerful solution as dw089k at minimum or bosch gll3-80 or even better dewalt dw089lg as i have now, but those things are 3-4 times more expensive so if u need something cheap but powerful to work with - believe me, u wont find any better and more reliable than this little work horse

Disclaimer here, I have not put this through months of hard work. I am a DIY aficionado. This little tool is totally worth the money for me. I've used cheap levels up to the high end levels from that big orange store, but in the end they all get dropped and knocked off level. Having the laser is an added sense that I am square to the world now. Tile jobs, hanging cabinets, you name it have all gotten easier. My overall quality of product I can produce has increased because of this laser. -The laser needs to be close to level to start (stated in product specs), so I'd invest in a tripod with the bubble on it (if you plan on using it that way). -Visible during the day and night easily indoors. Outdoors is tougher, but can see as long as its not too bright out. I bought this in winter though, so we will see come summer time. -Awesome carrying case -AA batteries so no need for expensive batteries, like lith ion drill packs

This worked perfect for putting straight lines across the 12-foot high ceiling of my 36' X 52' shop so I could install new 4-foot LED light fixtures in a nice straight line. When I installed the previous 4-foot fluorescent light fixtures years ago, I just eyeballed them and they ended up crooked, which looked unprofessional to me. When I used this laser, I set it on top of a rollaway tool chest and projected a line on the ceiling. It was powerful enough to project a line on each wall on each end of the 52-foot length of the shop, plus across the entire ceiling. I then got up on a ladder and put masking tape where I needed a mark, and put a mark with a Sharpie pen right on the laser line on the tape. I then turned the laser off so I wouldn't run the batteries down. This project took a couple of days, and I never did wear out the batteries. I also used this laser for making sure I installed the beams of a large deck level with each other. It worked best after sundown for that outdoor application.

I own several laser levels but this Dewalt DW088K is the one I use most often I love this Laser Level. It's super easy to use and will project a single horizontal or vertical beam (OR BOTH ... hence Cross Line) over 100 ft indoors and comes with a blow moulded plastic carry case, an adjustable magnetic wall mount and a well written instruction manual. The laser itself is self levelling and has LED lights to indicate when it's level. The build quality of this laser is typical DeWalt, tough and durable. I've had mine for more than a year and it's been dropped, kicked, fallen off ladders and cabinets and still works perfectly. My primary use for this laser is to line up light fixtures, speakers and alarm sensors on ceilings. I also use it for hanging TVs, pictures and most recently wall tile, mouldings and even framing. Cons: The only drawback to this laser level is that it doesn't allow you to LOCK the laser beam in a set position, say on an angled slope for stair railing for example. I have a CST 360ยบ Laser Level that will allow me to LOCK the laster beam in a set position even if it's not level. This is useful when you need to match and existing moulding or floor line that wasn't installed level or on a patio deck when you want some slope. You can do it with the DeWalt DW088K by measuring below the level straight line but some laser levels like my CST can LOCK into a set position which can be useful. 98% of the time you won't need this feature so in that case the DeWalt DW008K works great, but if you do need this function ... this may not be the best laser level for you. I would knock off 1/2 star for not being able to lock the laser position. As mentioned I have three laser levels, but if I had to choose only one ... this is the one I would keep. Highly recommend ... I would buy this again

I bought this along with a third hand fastcap pole when I was remodeling my daughters nursery. This little guy was an invaluable tool for that. The self leveling mechanism was a must have and the price was right on this laser. I've used the heck out of it and it has saved me so much time remodeling. Batteries last for a long long time but I use rechargeable so batteries are not an issue for me anyway.

This is a very nice tool. I never did a tile backsplash before, and I know how hard it is to keep either a horizontal or vertical line true, and I was wandering how I would do the job and keep my wife happy, and be proud of my project. It was my wife's idea to purchase a lazor level, and at first I didn't want to spend the money. But I made the purchase, and I'm really glad I did. This lazor level is easy to use, and you can have just the horizontal light on, or the vertical light on, or you can run both lights at the same time. It will eat the batteries faster when you run both lights. It's versatile too! You can set it on the counter, and put things under it to get it to the height you need, or put it on a camera tripod, or use the magnetic option and stick it on the refrigerator or something metal.

The uses for this are endless. So far I have used this to square-up exterior doors I was installing in my house, which was much better than having to go to the level all the time because I could see the laser line as I was shimming. I also used it to place extra outlets in a wall and keep them at the same height as the existing outlets, and I had a friend who used it to paint stripes on his walls. With a tripod this thing is deadly and you will find more and more ways to put this to use guaranteed! **UPDATE** I still really love it. I have used this to tile my tub surround, put up wainscoting (to level my baseboards, cap molding, and nailing to studs), screwing in new drywall to studs, installing shelving in my garage, level bathtub when installing, and should have used this to level my floor joists with furring strips when I reinstalled a subfloor (kicking myself for that last one). My ONLY gripe is I wish it had a better, more versatile bracket for mounting, because my tripod only goes so low and can get in the way. Though I have used the magnets mounted on the device, if I recall correctly I have yet to use the included bracket.

Dont give you money away because of a brand name. Thats what I basically did in buying the Bosch laser. The Dewalt was less than half the price, comes in a hard case and if you look at the pictures the laser is just better. What more needs to be said.

This is my second unit. The first we purchased to install wood flooring. It worked like a dream...but my father also fell in love with it. We ordered another one for those simple tasks like hanging pictures, shelves or drop ceiling. It makes drawing a straight line a piece of cake. I even set it up to get my dining table perfectly level with the chandelier. The magnet is slick, it clips right on and levels itself. I looked at the more expensive units and this one does all of our DIY projects and more! Very happy!
