For the money (somewhere around $40, as I recall), this Singing Machine SML283BK CDG Karaoke Player is awesome. I purchased it for some children to use at the recreation hall of an RV park. I sing and play acoustic guitar at the park's campfires and other activities where the kids (especially the "tween" girls) are always requesting particular pop or movie songs to which they can sing their little hearts out. I may know the requested songs, but kids of that age (unaccustomed to acoustic music) are usually expecting the orchestral background music with choral backing vocals. They were never totally disappointed with my acoustic renditions, but I could see that they were holding back. Karaoke came to mind, but I didn't want to spend a bunch of money on "transient" kids. I knew NOTHING about karaoke then (only what I saw in movies). The machine was a super big hit, but in the continuing quest for more songs, I eventually moved on to computer software and a pieced-together amateur karaoke system. I passed the small Singing Machine along to some younger grandkids who have enjoyed it tremendously in the absence of live guitar music while grandma is traveling. I also bought two additional machines for yet more grandkids. The only complaint I could possibly have is that it has led to the investment and commitment to bigger and better karaoke equipment and gatherings -- but I don't think it has seriously hurt my singing or guitar pickin'.

WOW, what a fantastic Christmas Eve party we all had after the Singing Machine gift as unwrapped! The karaoke player worked very well and the dvd songs worked well with the machine too. It easily connected to the TV so that we could see the song words and easily sing along using the microphone that came with it. We are quite happy with this karaoke player..

Works great! Plugs into our TV for lyrics, though we don't use that much as neither of my girls can read very quickly yet. They keep it in their room to sing mostly. Bought another mic to hook up, and it works great too. The CD reader takes a little time to get going, but it always works. It has been a while since I've had a CD player. Can't remember if they were always a little slow, or if I'm spoiled by the digital age now. But it works well, and my 7 and 5 yr old girls can work it themselves, so that is a win! They love turning off their room light and letting the karaoke machine's flashing lights take over too.

My 3 and 5 year olds LOVE this machine! I love that it can be plugged in or work with batteries and carried around, even used as a spare CD player. The flashing lights can be turned on or off and are a nice feature. I enjoyed having the ability to plug the machine into my TV and read the lyrics, but it was a bit of a hassle with all the cables (plus kids can't read yet). Overall, would definitely recommend!

My daughter absolutely loves this machine- and so do I! We bought an extra microphone so she could sing along with friends and it works great! She can choose to just listen to CDs or sing along and the sound quality is great. We can adjust the microphone volume which is also a nice feature. She loves the flashing lights and singing along to her favorite songs. If you have a little performer this is a must have!

I searched and searched for a small, karaoke machine that didn't cost a fortune or take up a ton of space: this was the perfect solution! The lights are fun for my daughter once she is done practicing and ready to perform and it even has an MP3 option so I can plug in my phone as we don't have very many CD's anymore! It has all the options you want without all the bulk. A great buy for the money!

Loads of fun. I bought an extra microphone, so I can join the fun with my child. She loves it. Great sound. You can play CDs and sing along, or just sing without playing a CD. The flashing lights really look great.

My girl loves this and we've used it for several purposes. Great machine!

My daughter, who is 6, LOVES this. She got it for Christmas and we can't get her to stop singing, mostly Frozen music. Perfect present for her. Only thing that throws her off is that it takes a few seconds for the music to start once she pushes play and so sometimes she thinks it isn't working.

So far so good. I got this for my 4 year old for Christmas as her first CD player. She enjoys the microphone and the player is easy to operate.
