Use tool as first step in car building.
Tool is really small. I screwed up and started shaping my car before drilling the axle holes, but I can't blame the tool for that. I'm sure most people already know this, but you need to use the tool to drill your axle holes as the first step after taking the wood block out of its box. That will guarantee the tool is nice and square to the wood and not at an angle like mine ended up being.

Great time saver.
We spend hours every year trying to tweak axels in the slots. We followed the rules by using the BSA block, but drilled it upside down to do away with the slots. The national rules forbid raised 4th wheels, but if your rules don't, this tool accommodates that. Allowed us to spend less time bending axels and more time cutting, painting and putting on fun stickers. This won't guarantee you a winning car, but without this and true axels your chances are much less. We lost to competitors who used turned wheels and raised 4th wheels. We will use this one more year. We allowed other troop members to borrow it and next year we will leave it to the group. For a couple of $$, I managed not to teach any youngsters any new four letter words.

Get it... you'll be glad!
So glad I bought this! It made drilling the perfect holes EASY and aligned them right the first time! I don't think I could've drilled the holes perfectly without this tool! It's definitely worth it to buy early on in a scout's career so it can be used over and over. My son won his den and got second in the pack!

Works perfectly - usable year after year
Another mechanical engineer reviewer here. This was our first time building a pinewood derby car and we chose to use this jig versus the factory axle slots to get a longer wheel base and better placement of axles. This precision machined jig is perfect for drilling axle holes whether you want straight, raised or canted. The supplied drill bit is fine. Plenty sharp to cut through the soft pine wood car body. As another reviewer stated, slowly guide the bit in the desired hole before starting the drill to prevent the bit catching the aluminum. We held the drill still and pushed the car and jig into the spinning drill bit to make the holes. Felt that had less chance of catching the aluminum block with the bit. The #44 size drill bit is perfectly matched to the standard BSA nails and allows you to push them into the drilled holes by hand and the holes hold them firmly in place. You should use a separate clamp to hold this jig in place on the wood block but it’s not absolutely necessary. It adds another point of precision to your build using the clamp to ensure the jig doesn’t slip during drilling and moving to the other side. My son’s car took first place overall in his pack and this jig definitely helped in that. He used the straight holes for both rear wheels and one front wheel with bent axles, and the raised hole with a straight axle in the other front wheel. Great investment for future pinewood derby builds.

Fastest car in the building !!
This tool does exactly what it says it will. I am not sure how much the angled axles played into this, but I just built my first ever pinewood derby car for our Awanas Grand Prix. I also raised one of the front wheels and angled and canted the other front wheel to build a rail rider. I then put most of the weight in the back and built a very slim car. The car weighed in at exactly 5 ounces, the maximum. Not only did we get first place in our group but we had the fastest car in the entire building! We literally had the fastest time of the night, got a first place trophy, and did all of this never having built a car in the past. Good stuff, I would highly recommend this especially if you were just starting out.

Takes the stress out of correct axle placement
One of the most stressful and difficult things for me, as I helped my boys build their pinewood derby cars, was the correct insertion of axles and wheels into the block. One time I broke a piece of wood out of the car. This tool takes away that stress for me, making sure the holes are straight. Easy to use. The inclusion of the drill bit gives a perfectly sized hole that you can easily insert axles snugly into place. It's a particular size that's hard to find at your typical hardware store.

This tool is very easy to use
This tool is very easy to use. While I have a drill press, it is a cheap one that does not seem to work great on completely lining up the holes for the axels of a pinewood derby car. This tool worked perfectly! I used a hand drill to go slow enough the bit would go in nice and straight. After putting the wheels and axels on the derby car it rolls as straight as any car I have built. With 4 sons, this one for my youngest, I have built my share of derby cars. I wish I had purchased this sooner!

Great product!
Great product. Easy to use. A little pricey, but after using it, I would pay double. I didn't use an axle driller last year and it took me over an hour to get my wheels on correctly. I spent 10 minutes reading the instructions and setting it up the first time. After that, I can set all 4 wheels on derby car in 5 minutes. Make sure you have a clamp to hold the tool in place on the car. I used a spring clamp and it worked perfect. Last year my son got 2nd slowest in the pack. This year he got 3rd overall!

Smart engineering
The Pro Driller makes the proper drilling of Pinewood Derby axle holes precise and easy. I can’t imagine being able to drill if the basic holes accurately without this or a well equipped tool room. To move on to trying to drill the canted holes and rail rider configuration without this fixture would surely have me tearing out my hair. Thanks for saving what’s left of my hairline. If I could give one suggestion, on the next, super deluxe model, have clamping ability built right in though I understand doing something like that would probably make this specialized tool cost prohibitive for most people. Thanks for coming up with the Pro Driller. You gotta appreciate original thinking and fine workmanship.

Great Useful Tool
This tool is great for accurately drilling new axel holes in existing blocks and up to 2 more WEDGE style car bodies if you make 3 car bodies from ONE PWD wood block. It is VERY WELL made, EAST to Use, ACCURATE, with hard anodize/wear resistant coating, and includes the drill bit, too. Also, useful for 2 1/2 degree axel hole installation. I LOVE this Tool !!
