WOW, yes. I'm very pleased and happy with this item. Now I know what's going on with all the sirens and ambulances as they dash past my apartment building. It's fun to listen to all the chatter as well.

This is an excellent scanner for a very reasonable price. It has a larger number of programmable channels than anyone is ever likely to fill, and the scan rate gets through them fast enough so you won't miss much. Features like Priority, Delay, and Weather are great. I found it very easy to program, and had it ready to go in about half an hour, not including the time it took to research and download frequency lists to my tablet, which is also pretty easy. It can't handle encrypted traffic, but fire, rescue, and most other local emergency agencies here aren't encrypted so that isn't an issue. The clock/radio feature is nice to have, too, although we probably won't use it much, and with the battery backup we'll be able to keep up when the power goes out. Just remember to check the batteries for leakage periodically, as it's easy to forget they're in there.

it is possible that a well healed, first time scanner person might be tempted to purchase a more expensive and more powerful scanner than this one. That would be a mistake.Better to buy this good, inexpensive one in order to learn how complex these things are. Almost all buttons have multiple functions depending on the previously pushed button. While this can be learned, and enjoyed, a more complex scanner would tend to scare away a novice. You can always buy a more expensive scanner later if you want a bigger challenge.

This is a great scanner, allowing one to scan 500 channels in seconds. I connected it to an exterior J-Pole antenna, at a fifteen feet height, and pickup signals clearly in the range of fifty miles.

This exactly the scanner that I was looking for. I was initially worried about the quality of the sound from such a small speaker, but it was very clear with plenty of volume. Programming the scanner is relatively easy if you can follow the directions in the manual, unless you were planning on programming all 500 channels. That would be a bit time consuming. The only minor complaint that I have is that the 5 buttons at the top of the unit have secondary functions that are labeled in red, which doesn't show up very well on dark colored scanner. White may have been a better choice. Other than that it is a very good scanner for the price.

My husband has always been a nut for police scanners but hasn't had one for many years so when I bought this for him, he was delighted. It did take a granddaughter to get it programed for the different areas of interest but once she was done all was well as long as it doesn't get turn way up.

First purchased the Uniden Home Patrol 2. I had read good reviews on amazon about this unit, however, i do not give it a good review. I could not pick up much at all with the HP2. The volume was also very low. After i returned it, i said, " the heck with it " and purchased this low priced unit. Guess what? It works 10 times better than the HP2 at a fraction of the cost. You dont always get what you pay for, lesson learned.

Great product. Thank you.

Great device. Really easy to use and program once you read the manual.

A little confusing to figure out how to work this thing but I'm getting on to it. It picks up transmissions from over 20 miles away. I learn a little more every day I use it. Over all, I am pleased with it. I'm sure once I figure out how to use all the features this has, I will really be able to use all of its features. Good little scanner.
