• CONTROL ODORS NATURALLY: The airtight lid and replaceable activated-charcoal filter work together to trap and control odors naturally, so your kitchen compost bin can sit conveniently on your countertop or wherever you need it. The chic modern design also complements any decor.
  • SIMPLE CLEANING PROCESS: The stylish stainless steel bin is molded in one piece and resists rust and leaks, unlike other bins that are welded and prone to rust and leakage at the weld points over time. Eco-friendly convenience is always at your fingertips, while nasty bacteria is not. v
  • PUT IT ANYWHERE: The 1.3 gallon size is big enough to hold several days’ worth of compostable organic kitchen waste like vegetable peels, fruits, and coffee grounds yet still small enough to fit on countertops. Measures 7.16” in diameter x 11” high.
  • DURABLE STAINLESS STEEL CONSTRUCTION TO LAST A LIFETIME: Molded in a single piece for strength and durability that won’t scratch, crack or chip. Made of premium, rust-resistant stainless steel -- will never leach toxic chemicals into your compost.
  • COMES WITH REPLACEABLE CHARCOAL FILTER: The specially designed activated-charcoal filter is the key to an odorless indoor compost bin. The filter can be cleaned with soap and water, like the bin. Will last more than 6 months with careful handling.

I was a bit worried if this would fit on my counter. But it's the perfect size. We are able to store a few days of compost before needing to empty it in our bigger bin out back. It's even a great size for our 5 year old to carry out (his new favorite chore 😉) The bin is easy to clean and the filter works amazingly. There is no smell at all. Since getting the bin we have gone from 2 bags of trash to 1 a week! Thanks for such a great product!!

LOVE IT! Sorry I did not have this bin much sooner. I hesitated and hesitated before ordering this item after reading a number of reviews. First to address the idea of the lid being difficult to open. I am 65+ and the lid is easy to lift off with one hand but it DOES seal completely when placed on the bin. So that is not an issue for me. Second: It is small enough to sit on the counter and blends nicely with my other stainless steel appliances. I thought it would stink but with the filters there are NO ODORS to smell even after two days. It holds a surprising amount of food items and coffee grounds. Living in Florida I expected bugs to be an issue - have not seen any bugs around, in or near it. Third: It is easy to wash and clean - shines up nicely and still looks new. Finally the filters are easy to put in and the bin is easy to move and carry. I use the small scented kitchen bags you can purchase in any store so that is a plus in my book. This product is a step up from putting food items in the disposal or in the trash can. It is one of my best buys. Highly recommend it.

After using a plastic countertop bin for a couple of years I must say this Epica bin is aesthetically far superior. I can't say if the Epica design will successfully deal with fruit flies (not a prob for me till June or July). The plastic one attracted them via scents eminating through the micro vent holes in its cover. The charcoal filter in the Epica is said (by some reviewers) to curtail the attraction of these pests. One concern I had was that the charcoal filter in the cover is very stiff and doesn't look like it can easily be removed for cleaning. Also, I wonder if the charcoal filter would benefit after xx months of use by being reactivated through heating? This technique is used in charcoal aquarium filters. These few questions might be answered by the manufacturer with a simple instructional insert. There was none accompanying my unit. But a definite 5 stars for a very nice looking and well made product.

I have zero complaints about this compost bin, for which reason I am giving it five stars, because that's how Amazon reviews work. However, based a couple of reviews that I'm reading now, I'm guessing that the main reason I'm pleased with this bin (apart from the fact that it performs its intended function perfectly well) is that I actually understand what a compost bin is and what composting involves. Here are some pointers, in case you are new to this: 1. A compost bin is basically just a pot with a lid on it. If you are going to order this thing and then find yourself shocked when you receive what is basically just a pot with a lid on it in the mail (despite the numerous images on this page that clearly show what is basically a pot with a lid on it), then please just go buy a pot and save yourself the trouble of posting a really stupid review on Amazon that blames the product for the fact that you didn't realize what a compost bin was. 2. Composting involves taking your food scraps that would *otherwise be trash* and keeping them in a bucket (or a pot with a lid on it) in your kitchen. For this reason, it will *get dirty*, just like the rest of the items in your kitchen that come in contact with food. You will often have to *wipe it down* to remove the residue of whatever you put in it, *just like everything else in your kitchen*. Don't let the term "compost bin" fool you into thinking that this product has the magical ability to self-clean. Remember that this is basically just a pot with a lid on it. 3. Here's the thing about food scraps: they break down over time. They even break down a bit over the course of a few days. Another word for this breakdown process is "rotting". THIS IS WHY WE COMPOST THEM. If you leave your compost sitting on your counter for a week at a time, *it will start to smell*. DO NOT BLAME THE BIN - get off your lazy rump and go empty the dang thing. Would you keep your trash for a week if it was full of rotting food? NO. Honestly, a bin that will hold a week's worth of scraps isn't a good thing. A compost bin is not a panacea for all compost-related unpleasantness. If you don't want your food scraps smelling on your countertop, but you also refuse to walk allllll the way to your compost bin more than once a week, then maybe composting isn't for you. Which is fine, just don't leave a three star review on Amazon once you figure that out. - Okay, done snarking. Here's what I like about this bin: *It looks good on the countertop *It has a carrying handle, unlike your average pot with a lid on it *It is well-proportioned - tall enough to hold a good amount of stuff without having a huge footprint on the countertop, but not so tall that it tips over *I've had little to no problem with fruit flies, presumably because I have been careful to only remove the lid when I am putting stuff in the bin *It cleans easily *It is durable and unbreakable Basically, it does everything a compost bin should do, assuming you do not have ridiculous, uninformed, and mutually-incompatible expectations for how it will function.

We've had this compost pail for a little over a week and it's worked out great! We use compost bags inside the pail to keep it from getting nasty. We've also been pretty consistent about emptying out the pail nearly every day; we have a 90 gallon compost bin that gets picked up every week so it works best to keep as much of the compost outside in the 90 gallon bin as possible. It also works best to give the pail a quick cleaning before putting a new bag in the pail and begin using it again. The compost pail sits on our counter top and it looks good, the top is super easy to remove so you can throw your food scraps in with one hand while removing the top with the other. Highly recommended!

I have been looking for some time. I have been using those used ice cream pails, (not the most attractive look) but hey it worked. The price was great. Delivery was quick. The size 1 gallon is perfect for our needs. We are a family of 3. Husband dumps coffee grounds his egg every morning & I use at least once a day. It arrived On the 19th of Dec. & I didn't need to dump until the 26th. The color was as described. The matte finish was great, it blended in with my other stainless. There were a few scuff marks on the top of lid but it didn't bother us & I figure that there will be a few more by the time were done with it. The lid with the filter has to be working (no smells) & better yet NO Fruit Flies! We have been experiencing warmer weather for this time of year & before this baby arrived guess what, yep, fruit flies. Last but not least & actually my favorite thing! The handle! I have a special needs grandson & this is his job to take the compost out. He had no problems like in the past. The buckets would tear or cave in dropping their contents. Which would only frustrate our young man. Problem solved😊 Thanks so much, Mawithhope in Ohio Update 2/15/16. Still holding up great! No rusting & handle still attached and still able to clean original filters 👌🏾 I can't say enough about this product & how helpful & so much better than using an old ice cream container.

This Compost Bin is very strudy, thick and well made. I had been wanting one for a long time, and treated myself with this one with birthday gift money. I’m so glad I got it! The stainless steel is heavy metal, and so is the handle. It’s very large too, which at first I thought might be too large, but I find I fill it up quickly with coffe grounds and filters, and lots of fresh veggie scraps and egg shells when I am cooking. I usually have 4, 5 or 7 days of scraps build up and there’s no odor. I think the people who wrote negative reviews don’t understand what this is for (temporary storage til I can run to the compost in the backyard). The filters can easily be removed by pinching them and pulling them out, though that won’t be needed often ... I just gave it a try. No fruit flies around at all (though the weather is still chilly.) I keep ours by our kitchen trash can, as it’s a little large for the counter. I can tell this will last for years and years of composting, and it feels good to recycle all that fresh food garbage, rather than throwing it away.

I love this bin. It wipes clean so easily that I have never had the need to put it in the dishwasher, scrub it, or even use soap. Just hot water and a towel to dry, and there is never a smell left behind. There are a lot of questions about how airtight the container is, and here is my two cents: The lid already fits very well; however, I took the advice of the people who suggest a paper towel barrier between the liner (if you use one, and I do) and the pail. I take a segment of two [connected] paper towels and cut it lengthwise. I arrange those pieces in the pail so that either end of each piece of towel comes up the side of the pail and ends at the top - it’s a perfect fit and covers the inside of the pail completely. Then I add the liner, and with the layer of paper towel and the liner hanging over the lip, the lid now has an extra-snug fit. It’s a little more effort but it’s worth noting that I had a bad case of fruit flies last year. It took me about a month to get rid of them, and during that time I never had a single fruit fly in the compost pail. The lid was tight and I presume the charcoal filter is an effective deterrent. - I’ve been using mine five months and have not had to change the filter yet. - the site of the handle attachment appears to be watertight if anyone cares. - the size is perfect (someone else in a hilarious review has already waxed poetic about that; find said review for details). - the design is great - the lid pulls off easily despite its snugness and the handle is useful. - my god I just love how easy it is to clean and keep clean. Simple is best. I would totally give this pail an NSF certification.

I am a veteran composter, and it has long been a seriously stinky and messy dilemma. I finally went online and actually researched various kitchentop composters. This one won out, and I got it. I'm so happy I did! I eat primarily raw fruits & vegetables, and for me, it holds about three days' worth of scraps. For most people, it will hold more. I've had it about a month now. It doesn't smell, and the fruit flies are not able to access the scraps--hooray! The top is quite secure. It's super easy to clean, and it looks quite nice on the kitchen counter, next to the cutting board. One thing that is extremely important to me these days is to support small USA-based businesses rather than saving a couple of dollars and buying something made in China. (Imagine what it would do for economy if we all tried to buy only USA-made products!) This is a really great product that fills a need. Thanks, Epica!

We resisted buying a product like this but got tired of smelly coffee cans or other containers for our recyclables. This small bin is perfect for a kitchen for fruit pits, veggie peelings, coffee grounds and the other items that can be usefully turned into compost. The charcoal filter means never a whiff of decomposing contents. We got some biodegradable bags for it and when full take to our outside compost bin. We recommend buying Green Earth compostable bags in the 2.6 gal. size for this compost bin can.
