Everything you need!
This kit contains everything you need...from sandpaper, to weights, to paint! There is a plastic engine and exhaust pipes that slip into pre-drilled holes. We had a nice looking, functional car going for a non-pinewood derby project in under two hours. This is definitely a great starting point, especially for someone not particularly handy in the wood-working department, or that doesn't have a lot of time to dedicate to something custom. You can literally get a functioning car with just what is in the kit, no tools needed if you just want the basics.

Amazing
It is a amazing kit and my son loves it. One of the best complete derby car kits.

really fast car
This car really worked great, It was faster than any other regulation car that I raced, and took 3rd overall in the contest where you didn't have to follow the rules, and I dint even modify it, so I was regulation and beating almost everyone else who had 10 pound or CO2 loaded cars. it was simple to build, I literally built it under my desk at work since I forgot to put it together till race day

It was an awesome surprise and he loves it
My 6 year old, autistic step son really loves batman. The local cub scouts decided to open up a pinewood derby event for all to participate in and I knew I had to get him this. It was an awesome surprise and he loves it. This think did very well. The only time he lost was to modified cars that had motors on them (there were no rules to those not in scouts). I even bought a spare for future when he becomes a scout.

Fun and Inexpensive!
My daughter had a blast during our summer daddy days making and decorating this car! She made it into a pink BatGirl car, but I guess I can't fault her for that. Would definitely buy this again for a fun and inexpensive project.

Decent kit for the busy kid (and dad)
I got this for daughter. Great price point and it has everything kid needs to build themselves with coaching from dad. Its not about me engineering some techno marvel to win. Anyway easy for kids to sand Paint and place stickers. Revell never gives enough weights. I used 4 quarters and 2 nickels to get her to almost 5 oz. maybe 2 pennies were needed. Anyway she did pretty good for most races. My daughter did the work. I just helped. Price was good and except weight and graphite everything was there.

A mostly decent kit with some good components.
There's a school of thought that says the joy is in the journey, that the important thing is spending time with your son while carving the block, yadda yadda yadda. Thing is, not everyone has the patience or skills for such a pursuit. And I think that's OK. After all, if we're talking quality time here, it's probably going to be better enabled if you aren't cursing. And besides, though the car is precarved, there's nothing saying that you have to follow EVERYTHING in the kit. Customize the paint (really...the paint in this isn't much good), and just have fun with it. I'll attach some photos of our effort. Rest assured that this kit will still require some sweat equity, but that's going to be in the form of sanding, sanding, and sanding. You'll have enough to do in making the wood smooth, painting, and getting the wheels on straight. It's a good kit. There's enough body there to drill holes and install internal weights, and it does lend itself to fine tuning. It's not going to ever be the fastest PWD car in a competition, but it does give you the potential to build the best looking one. And honestly...that's a good thing too.

Second place overall!
Perfect size. Wish there were a few more weights as the official weight for pinewood derby is 5 ounces. With everything, plus three coats of paint, included hardware, included weights, it only weighed 3.4 ounces; however my son did win second fastest out of about 35 cars!

Awesome 1st Place Winner!
I bought this thinking my son who loves batman would be all excited, but as much as he likes batman said there is no way it could win. I was a little deflated but carried on. To make him happy I went ahead and bought another kit and shaved it down to make it as small and streamlined as possible and he looked at it and said that is the winner. I didn't want to give up on this kit though so I got some spray paint to make the process easier. and he enjoyed helping me put it together. This kit does not come with enough weight, so I grabbed some small round tungsten weights at the scout shop and drilled a couple holes in the back and shoved them in. It was nice and heavy at the back. I added a couple pieces of the weights to the back top because I thought it looked cool and it was perfectly 5 oz. Time to weigh them and I took both cars to find they were both perfectly weighted. Because many of the boys didn't show they let him enter both cars. Race day came and I was super nervous, I really wanted him to do well. Everyone that looked at the cars thought the Batmobile looked cool but they all agreed that the smaller car I made would take the race. I did nothing to the wheels or axles of either car. I did not "polish" them or anything other than add a little graphite the day before. I read that graphite is only effective after it had warmed up. Once the race was over everyone was blown away including my son who took 1st place for which car? yep the Batmobile. That thing destroyed every other car. Great Kit, I highly recommend!

but the kit was great.
My son won 2nd place at the Pinewood Derby with this kit..ok, we did have to purchase more weight and polish axles, but the kit was great.
