I buy good quality tools and take very good care of them and the Mixing-Mate is no exception, but if you're using other than water based paint, cleaning can be difficult. Some people complain about the seal. However, I have friends who have these who had the same complaint and what I found was they were NOT properly attached to the can. The four dogs used to secure the Mixing-Mate to a can MUST be PRESSED DOWN while turning. They then must be rotated 180 degrees. The spring tension is what compresses the foam seal preventing any leaks. You cannot simply turn them 90 degrees and expect a good seal. I have used them to store paint for months with no degradation, or skinning over. The one problem I have noted with them is the plastic is a bit brittle and will break if dropped or knocked over, particularly on the spout nose. This happened to me, I didn’t notice it and the paint dried in the can due to the hole in the spout. I've been using these for years and keep one on every can. Even after months of storage I have no problem cleaning them of (water-based; e.g. Latex) paint. All it takes is some warm water, dish detergent, a sink and (at worst) a Scotch-Brite pad, but you do have to clean it immediately after removal from the can. Dried paint is very difficult, if not impossible to remove. Also, though not apparent, the sliding Spout Cover can be removed for cleaning, just unhook the spring holding it, from under the two plastic hooks and remove it. Lastly using a drill to drive the Mixing-Mate in totally unnecessary, can damage the Mixing-Mate, and could lead to a potential accident and a big mess. I would NOT recommend it. Even with paint that has set for months, less than a dozen cranks of the handle scrapes all the pigment off the bottom of the can and thoroughly mixes it. (Once caveat though, if you do NOT push the impeller all the way down, so it is flat against the bottom of the can, it will not mix the paint.)

I had a couple cans of 8 year old paint, new in the can, not opened since originally mixed, and not stirred since purchase. A standard stir stick probably wasn't going to get the mixing job done, and I didn't want to waste the paint. I have the mixer attachments for my drill, but I've never really cared for those. I've had my eye on this product for a while, and thought this situation worthy of the purchase price. I could not have been happier. The paint was thoroughly mixed and went on beautifully. The pour spout was handy, and didn't drip. I used this on both cans of paint, stirring, and pouring, and was able to use all of the paint in the cans, and it all had the same consistency, i.e. well mixed from top to bottom. When I was done, I moved the stirrer to a new empty paint can that I'd filled with hot soapy water, latched the stirrer down, and stirred for a few minutes. Doing this pretty much cleaned the stirrer, with very minimal wipe down needed to bring it back to as-new condition ready for the next job. ... I love it.

These things are a-freakin-mazing. I use these on all of my lacquers and sanding sealers in my wood shop. I use them on water based material and they stay on the cans and don't get taken off until the can is done. Then a quick clean and placed into the next can. I HIGHLY recommend these to anyone who constantly uses the same cans. I don't think I would go through the hassle of taking them on and off each time I used them so if you plan on using a paint can one time then not again for a year or so, then I would just use the little plastic spouts for $2 a piece from the big box store.

This is a great product. I am a photographer who regularly prints images on canvas. After printing, the canvases need to be coated with a special varnish to protect them from UV light, moisture etc... This varnish comes in a 1 gallon bucket and needs to be stirred vigorously for several minutes before each use. I got tired of taking my gallons over to the local paint shop where a friend would put them on the paint shaker. I found this product on Amazon and purchased one. I put it to use today for the first time. It is awesome. It makes a very tight seal. Not one drop of a leak anywhere. It stirs from the bottom which is exactly what every paint needs and the spout is absolutely non-drip. And....I can simply leave it on the can because the seal is so good and it will be ready for me to use again the next time. I love this product. In fact, I just ordered a second one because I never want to be caught without it.

This is great! Made the job so much easier by being able to pour a bit more paint for cutting in and then rolling. Previously I would waste time cleaning the lip of the paint can each time I had to pour more paint, and none of the other gimmicks I tried made it any quicker. This thing not only seals the can between pours but it also does a great job mixing the paint. Highly recommended by this DIY'er

I'm using these with Minwax gallon size stains. I tried another brand of lid and stirrer, but the lid did not fit tight allowing the stain to spill. The Mixing Mate clamps to the top of the can with four twisting clamps. It was very easy to clamp on. There is also a gasket to keep the stain where it should be. The mixer is made of plastic which should be sufficient as long as you're not abusing it. When stirring you can push down so you're scraping the bottom of the can. Pouring is where the fun began for me. Not a drop was spilled. I felt like I had control of the stain as it was being poured. The Mixing Mate was very easy to use and I would highly recommend this.

The thing I hate most about painting is the mess and clean up. I have tried snap on lids with spouts and the like, but no matter how careful I am, it makes a mess. This solves that problem. Once you install it on your can and lock it, you can keep it on until the next time you need that paint. It pours easy and once you release the button, it seals the spout. I use a wet rag to wipe the little left on the spout, not enough to drip, but it keeps it clean. This makes painting more enjoyable. Once you are done, or want to use it on another can, you can take it off and clean it. I use a 5 gallon bucket with dish soap and water and swish it around. You can take off the handle and mixing paddle to make it easier as well. I use a paint brush to clean the crevices, then wipe it dry or let it air dry. If you are using oil based paint, you can use the appropriate solvent for the paint you need to clean. The plastic is heavy duty and the piece feels solid. I will buy more so I can keep frequently used colors at hand.

Each time I paint a room at home I try something new that I see in the stores. I was using the shure line silicon pouring covers and thought they were good. But I was always worried about spilling paint when I re shook the the can. I would hold the flaps and hope things did not shoot out. I came across this in a wood working magazine and then decided to order it on Amazon with some other painting items I had never seen in stores. I got two gallons of paint and a few days later was ready to paint. This item clamps VERY securely on the can to make a very tight seal. I then turned the crank to re mix the paint rather than shaking the can first, popping off the top having paint harden on the can lid, etc.... This mixed the paint really well and the trigger pouring spout is great. You can close the spout while pouring and barely get a drip down the edge. When you are ready for more paint, a few cranks ensures the color is evenly mixed. I have not finished the room thus this is still attached to the paint can so I am not sure of the cleanup yet, but transferring from one can to another was no problem.

This little gadget is a game changer for painters! I refinish bathtubs so I was worried that they wouldn't hold up to the heavy duty chemicals I use, but I have been using them daily for two months and they have taken 90% of the messiness out of my job. The paint and chemicals do not build up on the inner mechanisms whatsoever so I am able to move them from the old cans to the new cans without ever cleaning them. There is very little buildup on the outside pour spout due to the tight locking mechanism that shuts off the flow of chemicals. One chemical that I use does not come in a paint can but after using this for the other three, I bought an empty can from ace and I transfer the chemical just because it is so much less messy when mixing chemicals. So far I have found nothing like this in stores or online. This product has made it possible for me to work from my my brand new car instead of my old work van. I wish I could give it 10 stars!

This product is wonderful! What a great idea! Especially great, you can leave on the can until you are ready to paint again! The worst part of painting is getting it out of the can. . . This has a great spout, and when you release the trigger, it shuts! Stirrer attached!!! Cannot say enough about this except -as someone else who reviewed this said-it is NOT airtight unless all 4 carabiners are locked. Trust me on this! It even says that on the box. But that was operator error. Great invention!
