Do you remember when computers had ethernet adapters built into them?. And then, someone had the bright idea to eliminate them and put a USB port so the computer could be thinner. And now, if there is a need to directly hook up to a cat five cable, you need a USB adapter. And of course, you use it so infrequently that you either lose it, misplace it, or it's so old that you're convinced that the transmission rate will be terrible. In my case, I cannot find my old USB ethernet adapter. I bought this one and the price was great. This one is nice as it hooks up easily, the computer recognized it and install the hardware and it has a little green LED that shows you it's functioning correctly. I'm gonna try not to lose this until I need it again. But this one was absolutely perfect

I plugged this into my MacBook Pro... as soon as I connected the cable from my home network, the adapter's lights lit up as I'd hoped. Turned off WiFi, did a speed test, and voila! Full speed download and upload, no more wonky WiFi. :-) I'm now running it through an Anker powered USB hub, and it works seamlessly in that configuration, as well. tl;dr: This works instantly and perfectly with my MacBook Pro (2015), with zero configuration, even through a powered hub. A winner!

I now have a laptop that connects wirelessly to my Network Attached Storage(NAS) where my music, movies, and photos are kept. Recently I went to copy about 20GB of music to my iPad. Talk about slow! It had to move from my NAS to my laptop over wireless, then to my connected iPad. I purchased this adapter, plugged it in, and it worked immediately, no drivers needed or anything. The transfer went *much* faster with this wired connection. Then I decided to back up my NAS to an external hard drive I keep offsite- 3 TB of data that time. This cable made it much faster. I am very happy to have it and love how it works.

I'm so glad I bought this. It saved me! The wireless connection at my house isn't that strong. One time I was taking an online exam and my answers weren't saving. I began worrying and panicking. Luckily my professor was understanding about it. But the next day I bought this adapter so that I can hook my laptop up to the router directly. I had to download a driver, The downloading the driver part was super confusing because i'm not tech savy and there were absolutely NO directions on their website about how to extract the file after downloading it. I had to google around and then eventually figured out that after downloading the file, you were supposed to save it to your desktop to extract it. I couldn't use the CD that comes with it because my laptop doesn't have a CD-ROM which is why I had to download the driver online. But once you have downloaded the driver, you just plug the usb part into your laptop and the ethernet cable into the modem. And it instantly starts working! I didn't even have to mess around with the settings in the computer. Great product!

This little guy converts any USB 3.0 port to Gigabit Ethernet. Great for WIndows 8 tablets which don't have an Ethernet adapter built in. (Note: does not work on RT) Most of the Surface Pro machine usually have only on USB 3.0 port so I generally use the $125 kdlinks http://www.amazon.com/2013-New-Model-kdLinks-compatible/dp/B00A6288II/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1394392466&sr=8-13&keywords=kdlinks USB 3.0 Hub to connect to the only USB 3.0 port than plug the Cable Matters Adapter into the HUB. This leave you with an addition 3 unused 3.0 ports for connecting a hard drive or DVD or your Windows Phone or any other USB 3.0 device you might want to use. The benchmarks I have done using speedtest.net show that the this Adapter is faster than on my Sony All-In-One than the build in Realtech PCIe GBE Family Ethernet adapter. But it is certainly 10x faster than any Wi-Fi connection. Great speed low cost. Good investment. I have a 200 MB Internet connection so that is a bottleneck going of the network but when connecting to Network Storage of have drives mapped to other local machines Wi-Fi just don't make it. I get about 80 Mb/s over Wi-Fi to the Internet, I get almost 220 Mb/s over this Cable Matters Adapter.(depends on time of day of course).. If you find Wi-Fi frustrating try out this baby. You'll love it.

I plugged this into my Haier Chromebook and it worked right away, no drivers required. I plugged in an Ethernet connection and was on the Internet almost instantly. This is truly a plug-n-play adapter without any drama. I wish I had learned about these adapters prior to my business trip to Alaska, where one of the visiting quarters didn't have any WiFi whatsoever. It is also good to have in the event of poor WiFi reception at a hotel.

Great product! So convenient and handy to have. When using it as a wired connection, speeds have not take a hit, works just as well connected to my laptop as the port on my desktop does. My desktop is in a different room than my modem/router so I use my laptop to make any changes or to hook up using ethernet. My laptop didn't come with a port for Ethernet and I almost didn't buy it because of that but then I discovered these great adapters! It has worked flawlessly so far, I have had no problems whatsoever. It seems sturdy and not easily broken. I purchased this one over others based on the reviews and I am happy I can contribute to the positive reviews!

I purchased the Cable Matters USB to Ethernet Adapter for my Surface Pro. The item arrived as expected and was in great condition. The use of the device (with Windows 10) does not require any special software or configuration. It was plug-and-play. The system immediately recognized the adapter and was ready for connection to the physical network. I haven't had a chance to perform speed tests to verify the GigE speed, but overall, I am very pleased with the adapter.

This adapter does exactly what it claims! I have a relatively new laptop with a built-in 100 MB network card, but internet speed well above that. The laptop also has a USB 3.0 port and I'm now using that with this adapter successfully. It was very much plug 'n play; I didn't even notice any drivers loading the first time I plugged it in (using Windows 10). The adapter does seem to run a little warm but it is has been used almost every day for several weeks now and has worked absolutely perfectly. I definitely recommend this adapter to anyone with the need to create an ethernet port using a USB port (particularly creating a Gigabit ethernet port using a USB 3.0 port!).

I was so frustrated that my Windows 8 Lenovo Ultrabook (no built in network port) had such a crummy wireless antenna. I was connecting at near dial up slow speeds to the internet. I have wired connections available in multiple places in my home,. but there was no way to get the laptop connected. I have always had good luck with Cable Matters products so the Ethernet to USB 3.0 connector looked promising. The install could not be simpler. Connect one end to and ethernet networking cable and the other end into a USB 3.0 port on your computer. After doing this it was immediately recognized and the driver installed automatically. A CD comes with the connecter for driver installation but it was not needed. I'm glad since the computer does not have an optical drive built in anyway. A new Internet Speed test showed a stellar improvement. It went from a terrible 3-5 mbs download to 125 mbs download speed. This is my wired connection maximum and now I can take full advantage of it.. It is well worth the $20.00 cost. I would get this over the older USB 2.0 version (around $10) if your computer has a blue USB 3.0 port on it. The data speed is much better. It will not work in an older 2.0 port I still think Windows 8 sucks as an OS with the stupid tiles and missing Home button. . This is a great little device. I no longer want to throw the laptop off a bridge
