Helps our family sleep at night
I love this product. We have a special needs child who has left our apartment in the past. We've had this over a year now and he still cannot open it! Rental units are strict about using screws or damage to the door so this was perfect. It was easy (ish) to install and hasn't failed us. The locking mechanism is easy for an adult. My only advice would be to make sure the part that twists must be pushed all the way to the lock or unlock position, because it sometimes get caught making it difficult for a person outside to lock or unlock the deadbolt.

success!
Our very tall toddler has been flipping the deadbolt open since he was around 14 months and with a lever door knob, it was only a matter of time before he got out. We just replaced our front door and anything that had to be screwed or affixed to the door was out of the question. The cover is perfect solution for us. Our son loves a challenge and still tries from time to time but isn't able to work the lock cover. It is a little bit of a hassle for adults to operate and at first the turning mechanism was stiff but it has improved with a month or so of light use. A friends 4 year old "ran away" (she wanted to play in the neighborhood park) in the very early morning, without her parents knowledge. They installed a deadbolt that had to be opened with a key and I think this is a much better and safer solution.

I mounted the product using only a screwdriver to loosen the deadbolt. Installation took 2 minutes and I'm confident that my son will never find a way to unlock it again.

Decent item
This item serves its purpose as our toddler is y’all enough to reach the deadbolt now. The installation can be tricky. Too tight and you can’t lock the door, too loose and the whole device rotates when you try to lock. Once I figured it out, it has worked well though. I recommend it for anyone needing to childproof deadbolt locks.

Maybe a life saver
It's tough to admit, but you just can't keep your kids within your line of sight 24/7. I left my 2 year old son in front of the TV so I could do the dishes. Barely a minute later I heard honking outside. I ran out to find my boy in the street and our dogs roaming the neighborhood. We're all safe and sound now, and with this deadbolt lock I'm confident it won't happen again. Our 5 year old daughter has seen us open it and has tried a couple times, but her hands aren't strong or coordinated enough to get it open. Installation is simple considering the complexity of the mechanism. Operating the lock can be a pain, but it's a small price to pay. I want every home with toddlers to consider this kind of lock for their home.

Better than Expected
I have to admit after reading reviews, I was skeptical. It sounded like a pain to use and I wasn't sure it would keep my 4 year old from opening the door. I had to get one because our apartment only has a deadbolt and this is the only safety lock approved by the management. They won't let us put a chain on the door. So installation was super easy. The lock cover works great as long as you have adult hands and good mobility. Obviously if someone has arthritis or some other issue with their hands, it would be difficult to turn, but not for the average adult. It is not a hassle to use once you kind of get used to it. You may have to teach guests how to use it but it is fairly intuitive. Practice a few times and it gets easier. I love that we can open the door from the outside with the key, which you can't do with a chain lock anyway. I will update further regarding durability after we use it for a while.

Took some getting used to but works great
Every parent's nightmare. Our three-year-old daughter figured out the locks on the house and took off running before any of us knew she was gone. Luckily a neighbor found her walking on a sidewalk after she'd crossed a busy street and was a block and a half away. Thank goodness for good neighbors. That day I ordered these security deadbolt locks and they work great. Installation if easy and didn't damage the doors or need anything more than a screwdriver. It does take a learning curve to get use to the device, but it is not difficult. The best thing is that neither of my younger kids ever figured out how to use it. For us, this device really did feel like a genuine life-saver.

Works perfectly!
This has been a lifesaver for me! My son loves to open the front door and peek outside. After finding him out on the front porch one day we ordered this product. Children do not have the manual dexterity to use this lock. Another nice safety feature is that when the gray side tabs are left in the pushed in position, no one can unlock the deadbolt from the outside...not even with a key! I use it in this position at night for extra security.

cost effective solution
explored multiple options: smart deadbolt: problem is cost double sided key deadbolt: problem is ease of use, especially if your house is on fire and you need a quick exit this is a clever design that does not require drilling holes into your door. highly recommend it

Works great if it fits your lock!
First things first, will it fit? That depends on the type of deadbolt you have. A few other reviewers have made comment with their brand of lock and tried to explain why it wouldn't work but in a nutshell, this thing works by fitting over your lock. If you look at the picture you can see two gray sections jutting out from the side. The way this works is by squeezing both of those in which act like little flippers to sort of grab and/or push the deadbolt. In order for this to work, you need to have a lock with a switch that is symmetrical (same length on both sides) or is only a little bit longer on one edge than the other. If the lock switch is too long on one side and/or not long enough on the other, these flippers will not be able to grab it. In our case, we had one that was not symmetrical but it was close enough to still work just fine. Setup was easy - just loosened the screws to the plate holding the lock in place, slid the mounting plate for this behind it, re-tightened and then screwed the cover onto the mounting plate. The first time around things weren't perfectly aligned so we needed to back up a few steps and re-adjust. My suggestion would be to test it before fully screwing the cover into place. We love this because unlike those snap on things (also made by Safety 1st) for the door handles, this is something our toddler can't simply snap off. The actual process for getting it to work is impossible for him to do (unlike some of the other ones sold on here that end up being easier for kids than adults) and actually takes a little bit of practice to do smoothly for adults so as his hand gets bigger, we feel confident that this will still be of value. Since this doesn't use a sticky tape or glue, we don't have to worry about it getting pulled off and because there were no permanent alterations made to the door or the frame (no drilling or nailing!), when the time comes to remove this, it should appears as if nothing had ever been there. Overall, we are very happy with this purchase!
