I had a leaking rear passenger axle seal on my 1998 Toyota 4Runner. This is the updated seal Toyota made for the rear axle. This is a simple seal to replace but take note of a couple things: -You have to disconnect brake lines, which means you'll need to bleed the brakes. -A 10mm flared wrench is needed to loosen the brake line. -You'll need new crush washers for the dill and drain plugs to replace the diff fluid. -You'll need a seal removal tool of some sort to extract the new seal. -A seal punch set is the proper way to install the new seal. I rented one from a major auto parts store for free. -If your brake shoes have gear oil on them, replace them as they are ruined because you cannot remove oil from brake pad material. -Brake shoes require special tools, be sure you have them beforehand. The proper way to complete this fix is to replace this seal and all the accompanying parts on the axle shaft (bearing, ABS ring, retaining ring, etc...). I did not have the time nor money at this time to do the proper repairs. I replaced this seal and flange O-Ring. There are no leaks as of today with a few thousand miles on the seal but I plan to replace the entire set-up on both sides soon as I consider replacing only the seal as a temporary fix. BUT $40 for the seal, o-ring, crush washers, and gear oil is something I could afford at the moment.

I used this to replace the leaking right rear axle seal on a 1999 Toyota 4Runner and it fits and looks just like the original. It's also recommended to change the O ring that goes around the axle shaft when you remove it to access this oil seal. I replaced both and the gear oil and have no more oil on the tire and brake assembly.

OEM TOYOTA PART Pricier compared to aftermarket brands but this one is Made in Japan. You might want to purchase an extra 1 in case you damage 1 driving it in. If you're careful and have the proper size disc, you'll be good to go. The Tundra I replaced this part with has ABS (deep/ not flush like non-ABS equipped axles) so the trick is to just use large slip joint pliers to pop it out vs those cheap/weak oil seal pullers.

It's slightly different/better than the ones the cars originally shipped out with, do a grease test to make sure it seals.

Updated part number for the 3rd Generation 4runner axle seal. Notorious for leaking. Hopefully this works better than the 4$ generic seal that only made it 4,000 miles. If not, I have to do the bearings. Fast shipping from the toyota seller, don't worry about lack of prime, I didn't notice!

This fit my 1991 4runner made the rear bearing job seal up well!!

genuine toyota part went in like it should and stop the rear axle from leaking. works for me.

After I got into this project I likely didn't need this seal. This looked to be as good or better quality than what I removed.

This new seal fixed my leak on my 99 4runner, and went in much easier than I expected. I'm not sure if it was the 170,000 trouble free miles, many runs down two track and old fire roads, or rolling the runner over on the highway, but this is the first failure the 4runner has had.

Great price, quick ship and perfect fit. Fit 01 Toyota Tundra 4x4
