The verizon DSL at a house I rented a room ...
The verizon DSL at a house I rented a room in kept dropping out every 10 minutes with all the housemates and devices using bandwidth on the verizon-provided modem/router, and the only way to bring it back up was to reset it. We bought this modem/router and no more dropping of service ever since we got it, still going strong at 7 months. Did exactly what we needed it to do.

Don't Give Up Too Soon!
I originally posted a poor review of this modem because it is advertised as a plug-n-chug replacement for Verizon DSL. I followed the instructions repeatedly a couple of days ago, each time being told "congratulations...you are now connected to the internet" and each time I wasn't. Tried for over an hour before giving up and calling Verizon "tech support". Well, anyone who has called them knows how that turned out. I had every intention of returning it today, but thought I'd try one more time on my own...still couldn't connect. After leaving in a huff to eat lunch, I came back an hour later to find everything running perfectly. So, the moral of the story is: before giving up leave for an hour and make sure it doesn't need more time, even if the set up page tells you you're connected and you're not. Upload and download speeds are no better than the standard modem, but I expected that. I bought it to make my WiFi signal stronger and this little box delivers. WAY stronger signal and much more reliable throughout my building.

Seems to be working nicely. It recovers from the VERY frequent Verizon DSL disconnects per day, Seems to be much better than the modem Verizon provided that did not reconnect at all.

The N wireless is great I get a signal out in the yard
This unit replaced a D-link modem that Verizon had since to replace an old Westell. The unit worked right out of the box. I just wish Verizon had sent me this one instead of the D-link. The D-link constantly needed to be reset to work and it took up to an hour for my wireless printer to get an IP. I have only needed to rest this on one time after a storm. The N wireless is great I get a signal out in the yard. Highly recommend this modem.

I recommend this for a Verizon DSL Replacement
This gateway replaced a Westell 327, which I had problems with Directv internet. I guess the old unit could not handle the newer systems. Set up was simple, with WPA2 security. I recommend this for a Verizon DSL Replacement...

The Better Your Modem, the Better....
If you need a DHL Modem pre-configured for Verizon........then this is the Modem for you (no need to accept their basic modem when you can own your Modem...........and this will increase the speed of your Internet).

Happy Happy Happy DSL Users
We gave this unit as a gift to friends who are using Verizon DSL, but were plagued by dropped signal and slow/no connectivity due to ancient modem/router setup. The Actiontec gateway with firmware modified for Verizon users appears to have solved their connectivity problems. Great!

Worth the expense for basic internet subscribers....went from 300KBps with a Westel to 1.25MBps using this device

Bought one slighly used about $25 for my Verizon dsl ...
Bought one slighly used about $25 for my Verizon dsl. My old single port modem/router died. The Actiontec offers surprisingly lots of options - only difficulty was waiting for my 2 hr lease to expire so it would use its own mac numbers, then had it on the wrong wan configuration but after an hour or so of me experimenting some Verizon tech silently took control of it and looked through it and set the wan configs properly. RFC 1483 via DHCP The software is all specialized to Verizon branding, so if using on a non Verizon connection you might discover you cant unlock it. Has an initial login to your Verizon account before it lets you access configurations.
