but my son LOVED this toy for months
When grandma bought my son this toy when he was a baby I thought to myself "another gimmicky toy" and rolled my eyes (after saying thank you of course), but my son LOVED this toy for months. He got it at around 3m and I finally stored it away when he was a year. The battery lasted almost that long. Now to my go to gift for all friends with babies and they all rave about them too.

great educational, developmentally on target product
I'd been looking at this item fora little while trying to decide whether to buy it. Based on what my baby seems to enjoy and respond to (she is almost 6 weeks old), I decided to give it a try. Its a great item. The product is really well made and very engaging. I like that the baby can engage with it in different ways at various stages of her development. It offers something more than your traditional rattle

I thought about returning it when I first got it because I was scared that my baby would hit his head or eye with it (the rattle is not soft) but saw how much he liked it so decided to keep it
I was a little hesitant to buy this because of the price, but my baby loves it, the "stick" part (where the baby holds) is thin which makes it easier for my 4 month old to hold. I even washed it a couple times, which made the light go out but I was impressed when after a day it turned back on. I thought about returning it when I first got it because I was scared that my baby would hit his head or eye with it (the rattle is not soft) but saw how much he liked it so decided to keep it. I would recommend to keep an eye on the baby when playing with it. my baby loves tracking the changing colors when I shake it.

Wonderful toy, highly recommended!
I have given this toy as gifts and have always heard back that the babies loved them. For my nephew, in particular, this was an important toy. At 6 months, he wasn't maintaining eye contact very well, and his mom was worried. I asked for advice at my local toy store and they recommended this toy. It became my nephew's constant companion, rarely left his little fist, and he just got a huge kick out of it. The spherical face changes color with each vigorous baby shake, there is a mirror on the base, the handle is textured -- every part of this toy has been thought out and has a purpose. I just became the aunt to twins born 3 months early, and I've already ordered two more Noggin Stiks.

Excellent customer service, excellent toy, excellent experience
Fantastic toy. I got this for my 4 month old. He is now almost 9 months and still loves it. I have no clue if it’s actually a developmental toy but it comes with a nice pamphlet which I hung up on my fridge which lists the milestones you should or can be looking out for, which are independent of the toy. I had a slight issue, probably a battery issue, and it was during a time I was working 80 hours a week so it was easier for me to shoot an email to the company than to try to return it. Bill from customer service was unimaginably helpful. After writing this review, I’m going to go check out what other products this company creates. I am SO please, all around.

The toy that never gets old
We've had this toy for a few months now (since my baby was 6 months old, he's now 8.5 months), and it's still one of his favorite toys. That is unheard of in babyland! I don't know what it is about this thing, but it cracks. him. up. He loves shaking it, banging it on things, chewing on it. He loves when we play peekaboo with it and the face changes colors each time. He loves licking the mirror on the bottom (?!). This toy is amazing. That is all.

Awesome toy! Buy extra, buy one for everyone you kno!
Please please please do not be thrown off by the "big" price on this little toy. It is worth every penny. Honestly if Amazon is telling you "Hurry only (insert low number here) left," quit reading this review, order at least one, and come back to finish reading about your purchase because I put time and effort in this review. This is a great toy. We ended up getting three, one for the house, car, and diaper bag. Our son has medically intractable focal seizires nearly constantly. They are not triggered by light and somehow he is often able to stop/lessen them when distracted by toys. This toy has become our go to for his seizure control, but would be great for any baby. The head lights up and changes between red, green, and blue, and is pretty bright when used in the dark, but not so bright that it should bother baby's eyes. The rattle makes a nice happy sound, like lightly shaking a mostly empty box of tic tacs. The mirror is actually worthy of being called that, unlike many toys whose plastic mirrors resemble cheap warpy fun house mirrors that practically scratch themselves when you look at them. I suppose you could even use it to line your eyes in a pinch. We've had our first one for only a little over a week, so I cannot comment about battery life, but the batteries are replaceable. Lights change with tapping or shaking of the toy and there is no way to turn it off (light goes out on its own after sitting still for 30 seconds or so, but comes back on with slight movement...Don't quote me on the time as I haven't actually timed it and I'm now holding my sleeping baby so I'd dare not go get it... .) so if it's always in your diaper bag you'll probably have to replace them sooner than later. The black and white base and the "handle" part have nice rubbery raised spots, and the handle is the perfect size for my now five month old son. As far as durability is concerned, of course we've dropped it. Never from more than about three feet high, but on hard surfaces such as wood and even un carpeted restaraunt flooring (I assume concrete) and he has held up nicely through his tumbles. I actually even dropped him on a ragged concrete parking garage today (to my horror), but picked up Mr. Nogginstick to find only three tiny little dots peppered on his face. They are difficult to see and didn't seem to affect the integrity of the plastic and the plastic stayed clear instead of taking on a white cast in the damaged area as clear plastic often does. All that being said please bear in mind we've had this toy for a week. I sincerely am grateful for this toy and it's ideal design for my son specifically. Honestly, I wish I'd come up with it he loves it so much! After you buy your Nogginstick (or two), check out the OBall (I suggest the original to start with for younger babies. It's so light and easy to hold, even for kids who don't get grasping too well.) I also suggest the Sassy wonder wheel.

It's worth it. Trust.
okay.. I know... $20 for a baby rattle... wtf? no. right? wrong. This this is really great. Seriously. Got it when my daughter was about 3m old. She wasn't super interested in it at first, but then as she grew, it helped with her dexterity as she could easily grasp it, & was interested in switching it from hand to hand. The light up portion of it, mixed with the rattle, has gotten her to stop crying on numerous car rides (I shake the rattle at her & bop it to make the light change, she watches in wonder) & she loves to chew on the yellow little nubs, as well as turning it upside down & chewing on the white lip where the mirror is. She also now just loves to bang it on things, or to just have it in her lap & she'll hit it to make the colors change. Yea the battery died after about 3 months because I'd toss it in the diaper bag, & it would just turn on & off a lot due to that. But so what, just replace it. It's great.

Loved it!
Bought when my little guy was 2 months and he absolutely loved it. It was his favorite toy for quite a while. When we first received it, you could tell he was trying to figure out how it changed color. After a few weeks, he caught on and would shake it and smiled every time it would changed to a different color. He also loved the mirror on the bottom. 4 stars because after about 2-3 months the light stopped working. If it were cheaper I'd just buy another one, but $20 is a little pricey for a small rattle.

Son's Favorite Toy
What can I say, he's three months old and like bright lights. The SmartNoggin Light-up Rattle has been awesome for hand-eye coordination and understanding that the light changes upon the rattle bumping something or shaking the rattle. He loves the color red and although I'd say I love every bit of the toy, even that it has smooth edges (although it is a hard plastic), I have to keep an eye on my son while using it as he's smacked himself in the face a couple of times which led to a screaming session.
