after riding a balance bike, my 2y7mo is riding a regular pedal bike. It works!
There is not a day my kids (2 and 4) have not used this bike. My 4 year old used it for 3 weeks, then moved to a regular bike, and mastered it in 3 days. No one could believe a four year old on a regular bike without training wheels. Thanks to the balance bike. My 2.5 is now flying with the balance bike as well, but is not ready for pedaling on is regular bike yet. Many neighbors, and many friends have purchased a balance bikes because of seeing our kids. A stranger stopped and inquired about it. I would prefer the Schiwnn brand over other brands because it is a heavier bike, which seems to help with balancing. Never use training wheels!! Trust the balance bike to switch to a regular bike, then go back and forth until your child is ready. Don't forget, they need to build muscles to pedal so be patient. Coordination and readiness will differ from child to child. And by the way, balance is excellent for brain development according to my research. Follow-up review: my 2y7mo is now riding a regular pedal bike without training wheels of course...this balance bike has a heavier frame which I think helped with balance and also simulating a real bike, which is usually not light like some of the balance bikes on the market. If your child is going to transition from a balance bike to a regular bike, I would recommend to get a 12 inch bike as well, with a lower seat (17") for my 93cm high son. And make sure the bike is not a stretched one, you want the child back to be in a straight posture. I would also recommend an aluminum frame if possible, or at least weighing less than 20lbs, to not push so much stress on the kids muscles and joints at a young age, it might also help up hill! Good luck. Very happy with my product. We bought another Schwinn for the holidays!

Pleased with purchase
I just received this balance bike and so far, I’m very pleased! It’s a Birthday present for my 3 year old grandson and hasn’t been used yet, but so far the quality seems good. In reading other reviews, I was alittle concerned about the finish, but paint is in good condition. It took my husband about 15 minutes, including gathering the correct tools, to put it together, but he’s very experienced in automotive, so I’d think it would take a bit longer for most folks. He did say that the directions were a little off-he needed a different size wrench for the front and back wheels. They also forgot to mention tightening down the seat, but that would be obvious. And the tires needed to be inflated. All in all I’m pleased with the purchase so far

Schwinn Bike Wins Hands Down!
We love the Schwinn Balance Bike we bought for my 2.5 year old son! Especially when compared to his friend's Strider bike, the Schwinn wins hands down (in our opinion). Here's why: 1. The Schwinn bike is much more sturdy because it's heavier, but not so heavy that my now 3-year old son can't pick it up easily. The rubber tires are great because we live out in the country and our streets are not exactly smooth so they ride a lot better than the foam tires would. The bearings and frame have quality components and are well-made. The seat adjusts easily and fits my son just perfectly. The only downside to this bike is that the paint does scratch off easily but my son uses it practically everyday so I'm not surprised to see some wear and tear. We love it so much that we made a comparison video against the Strider Balance Bike. Converted to pedal bike in 2.5 months!
A balance bike is the way to go! While any balance bike would probably have done the trick, I picked this one due to the relatively low price and decent reviews. I purchased this for my son (now 4.5) for Christmas. We tried it out in April and he was no fan. Fast forward two months, the bike is out on the lawn and he decides to pick it up himself and ride. Within the week he was balancing like a pro, coasting down hills, managing terrain changes (pavement to grass to sand) and keeping steady over potholes and frost heaves. Another 2.5 months later and he graduated to a 12” pedal bike. After 20 minutes trying out the pedal bike he caught on and was riding like a pro. Even starting off on his own without any help. If I’d only known how effective these are I’d have purchased one used rather than brand new. This will now be a hand me down to my son’s older cousin. Some specifics on this bike: Pros: 1 - great way to learn the hardest part of riding a bike (balance) 2 - lightweight and easy to carry, your little one will inevitably tire of it and you’ll have to carry it 3 - rubber tires. Full disclosure, I didn’t try one with plastic tires but there was something in me that wanted a bike with “real” rubber tires. Cons: 1 - similar to another reviewer, the bike had gouge marks on the frame, I wasn’t all that happy about it but I figured it was going to be scratched up anyway so why bother with the hassle of returning it. 2 - when properly inflated the back wheel had an issue with the bead and the tire was never fully locked into the wheel frame. The bike still worked fine. 3 - pedals can’t be added In the future, this is potentially a short term purchase and at $70, is a bit steep in price. Wish I had heard of these when he was 2!

Excellent balance bike for my 3 year old
I bought this for my 3 year old who is kind of tall for his age. He's about 44 inches tall so he's probably about the height of a 4 year old. He loves this bike because it looks like a 'big kid' BMX bike and I like it for it's quality and ease of setting up right out of the box. A couple of wrenches to put the wheels on and it's ready to go in less than 5 minutes. My only wish is that the seat post was a couple inches longer so I will be able to adjust it higher as he grows. I will be able to buy a longer post when the time comes so it's not a huge deal, just a nice-to-have thing. One word of advice, when the time comes to replace the inner tubes, buy heavy duty tubes and cut the old ones and use them to cover the new tubes. That way you'll get extra protection from rocks and thorns. This may not be an issue if you live in the city or the bike is only used on sidewalks, but if your child is like mine and wants to ride off road this could end up saving time and money in the future.

Great balance bike!

Good implimentation of a Great concept!
Balance bikes are truly the way to go for teaching your kids to ride. These bikes do not have pedals, so the kids don't have to face the added challenge of making the pedals work while they learn balance. We have tried pedal bikes with training wheels, and unfortunately, the child learns reliance on the training wheels, and doesn't ever learn to balance. When riding with training wheels, the rider leans out when cornering instead of the natural leaning into the curve. This simple difference further creates a dependency on the training wheels, and causes lots of frustration and instability when you try to progress without the training wheels. Frustration and poor balance will cause a lot more skinned knees and crashes while learning, and will considerably slow the process. This bike fits our 3 YO well, he is on the taller side for his age, but the seat is easily adjustable to make this ride friendly for shorter/younger kids, and also for taller kids. Overall, I like that there are real rubber/pneumatic tires, and the bike is sturdy, but not heavy. The one down side to this design is that there is no foot rest for when the kids coast while riding. Not a problem, as our kid puts his feet on the hoops that surround the back tire. This bike is a great buy, and will outlast this stage of riding.

Love it, and Schwinn took care of us when something broke 5 months in. Awesome!
Love it! I can honestly say it’s a solid bike... in spite of 5 months later when plastic seat mount broke... I emailed a couple of pictures to Schwinn (googled their warranty info) and within 24 hours they reviewed it and said I would see a new seat and pole mount within the next week at my doorstep. Our 3 year old son rides around our big yard on it every day. I can’t ask for more in a kids’ bike or manufacturer warranty than that!!!

Love the Foot Rest, but Mine Came with a Leaky Rear Wheel
This Schwinn 12-ince Pink Balance Bike is Cute - with capital C! Easy to assemble, less than 10 minutes with a couple of wrenches and didn't even have to look at instructions. The rear tire leaked on first day with 20 minutes of very light use riding inside the house on hardwood floors, but this is only about $10 to fix at any local shop. I don't know if the leaks are common or I just drew the short straw, but again it's about $10 to fix and it'll take less than 5 minutes if the store isn't too busy. Best feature II love is it has a foot rest. My son had a Kinder Bike, and he wore it out. It worked great for its purpose, but he always had to dangle his feet after gaining enough momentum. I always felt that a foot rest would be cool and this one does have it. Couple of things that may affect some parents. 1) This bike is pretty heavy, especially for a Toddler/Preschooler. 2) There isn't any brakes like they have on a Kinder Bike but my son never used the brakes so this feature is irrelevant to me but it may be an issue with some parents. Update: It's been almost 2 years and this bike has held up well. I took the bike to local shop and it cost me $15- still worth it. Also, I emailed Schwinn and they sent me an extra tube. Anyway, this was my second experience with these "pedal-less" bikes and again the results do not disappoint. When they grew big enough and was ready, both my children transitioned from these bikes to regular bikes without training wheels in a matter of minutes. The biggest issue after they learned to use the regular bikes is turning the bike around. It's like waking and chewing gum for them, but once they get used to it then it's all downhill (pun intended). BTW other than a little dust because my little girl has stopped using this, the bike looks almost out of the box new.
