The best Air cooler and easiest to install !
I've used the Coolermaster Hyper Evo 212 for years. If you've used a Coolermaster you know how HARD and frustrating mounting it can be, and how you worry it is seated properly, and whether or not it is too tight on your CPU. It is also better done as a two man job! This Noctua CPU cooler is the only one you will ever need, the one I've used now on my last three builds, and the only air cooler I'll use in the future. If you know Noctua fans you know they are nothing short of amazing and engineered like nothing else. This CPU cooler is so well made, so easy to install, and works so well, every other company should just get out of the air CPU cooling market!!! The bracket and install is almost as easy as a stock Intel CPU fan, but it works so much better and is so much quieter. I've used this cooler in two different sizes (NH-U12S) & (NH-U14S) and cannot recommend it highly enough. If you like air cooling, like me, and simple installs, look no further for the best and easiest to install air cooler on planet Earth.

The best air cooler I have ever used
I purchased this cooler to replace an failing stock Dell cooler in a T1600 system. Noctua does not recommend their coolers in Dell, HP, and ASUS pre-built systems like the Dell T1600, but I was fairly confident that this product would work. A 5-pin to 4-pin PWM adapter was needed since Dell uses proprietary 5-pin headers (Thanks Dell...). The adapter was $7 from "Tech Gears 4 Me" seller.

Quiet and effective
I replaced all the stock fans in my case and my stock CPU cooler. My first impression was "this is a lot quieter." The processor appears cooler but I didn't record good numbers before I change the CPU cooler. My gut feeling is about 15c cooler. What I have noticed is (1) that my computer seems faster; supporting my belief that the processor was throttling and (2) I've noticed that the air coming out he back of my case feels warmer. These observations indicate that the stock cooler was doing very little cooling and the processor was simply avoiding getting warm by slowing itself down a lot. I'm done with stock coolers and am now a Noctua fan. (No really, that pun wasn't intended but once I saw it, I decided to keep it.) Installation was fairly simple but I'm someone who reads the instructions and takes his time. In my case, I had to remove my motherboard from the case because the backplane was being held on by the old stock cooler. That wasn't difficult and was the hardest part. But before I go, one last message. If you haven't applied cooling paste before (and it is included), watch some videos on how to correctly apply paste. While I was fine, I've heard horror stories from people who applied too much paste (and used a different kind that was conductive). It did not go well for their motherboard after that. So, watch the videos or get help from someone who knows how to apply paste. And this time the pun is intended -- I'm now a Noctua fan. (Perhaps we should form a club...The Noctua Fans Club...)

What comes with the cooler? Temps AMD system? Temps for Intel? Is it quiet? Reliability?
One of the best coolers I've ever had! This keeps my 2600k at (4.5ghz) have clocked it to (4.6ghz) and only gets to 43c under heavy load I have also boght the same cooler for my AMD Fx Rig that consist of an Fx 8350 these are very power hungery, Very hot CPUs but it clocked at (4.5ghz) keeps it around to the 50c to 53c still quite great for an air cooled cooler not to mention the fan is very quiet unless you crank the speed of the fan to 100% (still very quiet if the case is closed case) then you shouldn't be worryed about noise, But to note this pushing more air across any cooler will not help because it takes time for the heat to disipate from the cooler into the air stream of the case so I advise to find the sweet spot for your spcific setup! What comes with this cooler? Well Very great thermal past, an amd and intel mount, also a resistor for the fan header to the cpu fan to make it even more quiet, and a metal badge that has noctua and a owl face on it, this set also includes a screw driver spcific to the cooler. I have own my cooler over a year now and have no issues with it at all.

Love it as the installation was very easy compared to ...
I had the Hyper 212 Evo and replaced it with this. Love it as the installation was very easy compared to the 212 Evo. I was also able to use this with no problems with the memory cards as they are high profile. I am using it with the push/pull configuration and the temps are from 27 to low 30's. Very effective. Some complained about the color which does not bother me as I am impressed with its performance.

Great CPU cooler at a great price. Works excellent!
PURCHASED: March 22, 2017 SUMMARY: Great CPU cooling unit. Installation was very easy (but it took some checking online to make sure it was aligned on top of the CPU and MB properly - so if you're not sure, check first that you're installing it properly for your processor & MB). Bought another Noctua fan (identical to the one it comes with) and attached it to the rear. The Noctua CPU Cooler already comes with clips to install a 2nd fan. Works very quietly and keeps the CPU very cool (after tweaking with the MB fan app). So far a terrific piece of CPU hardware, and working as expected (after one year now). No issues with cooling, operation, etc. For the price point, this is also a great value. PC BUILD March 2017; Integrated with following components:

Very low noise, even when rendering
I do sound recording in the same room as the PC, so even the smallest noise matters. I built a PC in a low-noise case (Corsair 400Q) and can shut it in the closet during recording. I also do video rendering which cranks up the CPU heat, so I bought this cooler and the Arctic Liquid Freezer 120 and tried them both to see how they cooled and how quiet they are. I'm running i7-8700K (not OC). During stress testing (all cores maxed out at 100% with Prime95), both coolers kept temps in the low 60s Centigrade, but this one's fan was much quieter (the Arctic was not loud, just louder). With the CPU under typical load, this one is very quiet and most people probably wouldn't notice it. The Arctic is a little louder at idle because in addition to fan noise, it has a soft pump noise that resembles a refrigerator. I like and recommend this Noctua NH-U12S air cooler and the Arctic Liquid Freezer 120. If you need a quiet PC, this NH-U12S delivers.

Cool Runnings
tl;dr - Whisper quiet, easy to unstall, not great looking. Have you ever lived near an airport? If not, use a stock Intel CPU cooler, and you will know what it sounds like to have a jumbo jet flying through your computer room. If you aren't interested in that experience, then you might want to look at a 3rd party CPU cooler like this Noctua. I bought this not to increase my cooling, but to keep noise down and the NH-U12S has accomplished this admirably. The NH-12S arrives in a classy looking glossy card board box. When opened, you will find AMD mounting equipment and Intel mounting equipment (both LGA 1155 and 2011) in separate smaller cardboard boxes. Yet another box contain mounting accessories like screws and thermal paste. Finally, the box of course contains the NH-12S heatsink and fan. Installation is a breeze. Simply put the retaining bracket on to the back of your motherboard, apply new thermal paste, add the front bracket, attach the heat sink, then the fan, and finally plug the fan into the MB's CPU fan header. This whole process, which I took very slowly, consumed about 20 minutes of my time. Once you turn your machine on, don't be surprised it you think it's still off. While the stock Intel cooler sounds like an air show is headed to your house upon startup, the Noctua is smooth and whisper quiet. Even at maximum load, you can barely hear it. I don't have a window in my case, so it doesn't matter to me, but for those of you who like to show of your internals, just know that no Noctua fan product will ever win a beauty competition, and this product is no exception with it's stunning 1970s Soviet-inspired design. If aesthetics are your primary concern, I'd advise you to look elsewhere, but know that you are missing out on a great cooling product. Better and ugly fan than a burnt-out processor.

BIOS Rates it Better than Water Cooling
This is my third Noctua purchase. The product is top-shelf quality. Heavy and durable build. My Asus BIOS has a status monitor and overclocking predictor that rates the cooling of the current CPU against various grades of air cooling all the way to water cooling. This Noctua's score came in even higher than the water cooling, at 188 points as against 154 points for water cooling. Entry level rates 30 points, to give a perspective. This fan really keeps the CPU barely above ambient. When running Prime 95 torture test, the fans remain at sub-audible levels and the CPU temperature never rises much. Cooling technology has come a long way in the past decade. If you plan to overclock, this cooler will likely give you the best results. Just bought a second one of this cooler for my wife's PC build. As close to silent cooling as you can get. Always pleased with Noctua coolers. The best on the market in my humble opinion.

Excellent Upgrade from Stock CPU Fan
My computer is located in the same room where I record voice audio. Although relatively quiet, it was loud enough to be picked up my my microphone, especially when the CPU was under stress. Most of this noise came from two sources: the CPU fan and an older hard disk drive. After replacing both, the CPU fan with this Noctua NH-U12S, and the hard drive with a solid state drive, I dropped the sound level by 8 decibels, from 35 db down to 27db. I can't even tell when my computer is on, and my room is almost silent. With the Noctua, under processing load, there is no perceptible noise from my computer with my ears about 4 feet away. This has also slightly increased my processor speed, because with the old fan, when the temperature went up, the processer speed was throttled a bit to reduce heat. Installation is a bit tricky, because you will likely need to remove your motherboard in order to install the back support plate. That said, the installation kit, instructions, and packaging are outstanding. The quality is top notch. I have no regrets at all; the $60 was well spent in exchange for the silence and reduced heat for the processor.
