About As Good As One Could Expect, I guess? (2018 Update)
Well let me first be honest and say that my pool was FILTHY when I opened it this season. We had a new Loop-Loc cover installed on our L-shape in-ground pool during the fall and it let every bit of dust and dirt under the edges and into the pool. It was a big big mess. However I was not going to clean the whole pool with my rechargeable pool vacuum that I used last year because it took forever. So I decided for sure that I wanted a robot to help with the maintenance and did a ton of research. This one IMO was the best available according to price and reviews. It seems that all of the robots had issues with one thing or another. Its nice to be able to just plug this thing in, drop it in, turn it on, and walk away. It really was that simple out of the box. It came with a set of filters already installed as well as an extra set for the smaller particles. There werent very many directions in the box as I was looking to read them first instead of just doing what I usually do and play with the new item and potentially break it. But it was easy enough to figure out. So you turn it on when its in the pool. The fan at the top starts to blow out water and the bot takes off. (pretty fast robot) It then goes about 3ft and stops. At this point I am thinking, damn I broke another new thing. No, its just the robot "thinking"? Really not sure why it does the pause stop and go thing, but it does every time it goes in a new direction. Anyways it bounces all around the pool, sometimes up the wall, and picks up most of what it runs over through two rectangular holes on the bottom that feed into the filter areas. Now again my pool was filthy so I am not surprised that it didnt leave a sparkly pool floor behind it, but there were a few things it missed. However when I took the bot out after about an hour (because I was worried the filter was too full and would strain the motor) the filters were jammed packed with stuff. Getting the robot out of the pool really isnt a hassle as many make it seem to be in reviews. You can pull the robot up from the bottom of the pool (gently) with the cord. Once it is close enough to the edge reach in and FLIP IT OVER, this way the dirt wont come out when you pull it out. Some people complained about dirt coming out as they removed it from the water, flipping it over is a simple fix. Once you do that you just grab it by the side handles and lift it out. Put it on the edge of the patio and let it drain out of water. (not much) Would a top handle be nice, sure, but that wouldnt eliminate the dirt coming out of the bot when removing it. By the way it does this because the filter area is full and the trap doors are slightly open still. If they were closed, it wouldnt leak dirt. So now to the filters. Which by the way are the single most best thing about this robot. It has 4 rectangular grid filters, each about 9in x 5in. Two of them together make one filter collection area above one of the two holes in the bottom of the robot that I mentioned before. This thing had everything in it. Sticks, leaves, worms, dirt. You name it, it was in there. The filter area pops out of the bottom of the robot really easy with just two levers holding it in. The grids themselves pop off the whole assembly for a nice easy clean up with the hose. Spray the hose over both sides of the grids and wa-la, clean and ready to go again. I read a lot of reviews on other cleaners and the "bag collector" as opposed to the grids. Most people were not happy with that specific, so another reason I chose this one. Some random things I like about it. The swivel cord is great and doesnt tangle. The robot is strong enough to get over the main drain. It holds a lot of crap in the filters. Its very fast. Filters are super easy to clean, change, or check. Some random things I dont like about it. It doesnt seem to "learn" the pool. It just bounces around down there until you take it out. It doesnt really scrub the pool. Its just a vacuum running over garbage. So it could use a dedicated brush feature of some sort. The ability to climb walls is cool, but not effective, getting back to the scrub lacking ability. I havent let it run a full cycle yet which i think is three hours. However it does a pretty good job in an hour or so. I will update this review at the end of the season. Other than that, I recommend this to fellow pool owners. UPDATE: July 5th 2014, So halfway through the season and its still working just fine. Picks up a ton of stuff I dont even see from the pool side. Had an algae problem for a little while and this thing helped suck up all the nasty green stuff. I am more convinced that this doesnt learn the pool dimensions. Instead it just bounces around for 3 hours. I let it run the full cycle now. Because of the randomness from the route it sometimes doesnt hit every spot on the pool floor. Not a big deal if the pool is mostly clean. After the cycle is done, for some reason it wont let you push off and on real quick to let it go another round. It just stays shut down. It seems you have to pull it out and clean it to reset it or just unplug the power cord. Grid system is still a great feature. Other than that I am happy with the purchase. 9/6/18 Update: Just finished summer #4 and this bot is still kicking butt. Makes keeping the pool clean super easy. I’ve given it 5 stars now due to its life span and durability. I’m still using the filters that came with it when I first purchased it. The only thing I will say that seems to be wearing are the springs in the trap doors to the filter holding area. They seem to be weakening which doesn’t keep the doors closed as tightly. However this thing still collects tons of stuff. I highly recommend this pool bot! Also thank you to everyone who voted this as a good review. It’s much appreciated but I am just glad I could help.

Fabulous Pool Vac
I love this pool vacuum. We have a large pool - 20' x 40' and 10' deep in the deep end. We also live in a wooded area surrounded by oak trees. It used to take us 2 hours to vacuum the pool, backwash the pump, etc. Since we got the Dolphin, it's a 5-minute set up and a 5- to 7-minute clean up. The Dolphin runs for approximately 2 hours, and picks up lots of bugs, leaves and dirt. Starting it is easy - plug the power box into an outlet, plug the Dolphin into the power box, place the Dolphin in the water, swaying it back and forth to release air bubbles, feed cord into the pool, and turn on the power. Dolphin moves in a random pattern all over the pool, much like a Roomba on a carpet. Fine filters trap dirt and bugs in the Dolphin. I am always surprised at how much dirt it captures. When the Dolphin is done, remove it from the water (I like to do this as close to the skimmer as possible due to some particles coming out as the Dolphin is lifted from the water), wash off the filters, and you're done. We have a small metal cart (the ones that old ladies use for groceries), and it works great to haul all the cord, power box, and vacuum back to the garage. Here are the pros and cons: PROS: - I don't have to stand there vacuuming the pool - saves me 2-3 hours a week. - Dolphin does not hook up to my pool pump and filter - it is self-contained - so no clogging my filter and backwashing. - The filters are easy to remove and clean. - It's cheaper than other brands of robotic pool vacuums. - It's silent. - It actually climbs up the walls and comes part way out of the pool while cleaning to get the edges. - Doesn't suck up the kids' diving sticks. CONS: - Cannot clean steps. - Sometimes misses a spot. - Has trouble with cleaning the angles - the 135 degree angles where the pool slope meets the rising wall of the pool are hard to get at. I usually brush these just prior to starting the vacuum. - Large leaves tend to get stuck in the intake slots on the bottom of the unit - cannot handle our large oak leaves. - Is heavy to lift out of the pool - around 17 lbs. Overall, a great purchase. No regrets.

Very thorough cleaning job (by Robot) for half the expense of most Robotic pool cleaners
The item was very easy to assemble, instructions are fairly straight forward. I chose to wait to vacuum my pool waiting for this item to arrive so my pool had been neglected for over a week and a half. This Dolphin vacuum was awesome. It cleaned everything very well. It was kind of fun to watch the machine crawl around. It appeared very random, but the bottom of the pool was very clean after about an hour of work. (my pool is 30000 gallons) After pulling the cleaner out of the pool, I pulled the filters out (there are 2 different sets of filters for this unit, large and fine debris filters) and they were definitely in need of spray out. This was easy to accomplish as well. I was apprehensive purchasing this unit at first, but after first use I'm very very impressed. Using this will lower the demand on the central filter and skimmer system. The cleaner was more expensive than a vacuum or pressure floor cleaning system but (as long as it has reliable longevity) should be worth it in the long run.

This thing is awesome! I had a $2000 vacuum like this for 6 years so I was worried about buying this cheaper one but it works better and faster than my old expensive one- hands down well worth the money goes up walls steps picks up big leaves pine needles and then even the little fine stuff like pollen piles on pool floor... hope this review helps ppl but I'm 100% happy with it

Wow! This thing is amazing!
This was a big purchase for me and my wife so we tried to go cheaper beforehand and do manual vacuuming. The problem was my pump was leaking air through the seals so every time we would try and utilize suction for it a huge air bubble would develop and kill pump prime. I needed something 100% independent of any filter/pump to clean this pool. My friend had bought it and was raving about how automatic it was and how now he had time to spend with his family vs spending hours cleaning the pool. I finally went for it and I have no regrets. Well made, super smart technology, the ability to climb vertical walls, easy to empty out, multiple filter options, it picks up sand, so many things. I set this in the pool at night and push the button and it roams around while I sleep, I wake up and the pool looks awesome, I pull it out, clean the filters when i get home and then repeat every day. Make sure you are still brushing your pool. Don't use this as a replacement for good water maintenance. You still need to brush buildup so the filter can get it and you will still need to maintain good water pH, chemistry etc. The hard white wheels may show up squished but that is OK, those are actually foam and they will turn spongy once this gets put in the water. Also this ships with the screen filters intact. If you are trying to clean sand and heavy particles they work great but if you are working on clarity and finer stuff switch to the included finer filters

Great purchase - Dolphin Nautilus
We've used this several times after a recommendation from a friend who bought one. It is worth it!! It is easy to use, does a very thorough cleaning, and is easy to store. The cord does NOT get tangled - just make sure you don't have any tangles in the cord when you place the 'bot in the pool, and you'll be fine. It is pretty hefty, but doesn't weigh as much as some of the pool 'bots, so I don't find it hard to lift out of the pool. You can gently pull the 'bot to the shallow end with the cord and lift from there. You may have a few pieces of debris, but nothing to complain about (as some reviews have done), and easy to catch with the net. Also, this has NOT gotten hung up on the bottom drains. The filters can be easily removed after each use to rinse the debris out. It grabs the small stuff as well as leaves very well. It runs for 3 hours - mine runs for 3 hours EXACTLY. It does climb the wall (I have a vinyl, in-ground pool), but I haven't seen it get up the stairs. No problem - I brush those off into the pool first. : ) I would highly recommend this product.

"So Easy Even My Husband Can Use It"
After much debate, review and research we finally decided on the Dolphin Nautilis as our very first automatic pool vacuum. We purchased a home 4 years ago with a 30,000 gallon swimming pool. I really enjoy taking care of it. ("Pool piddling" as I call it.) I did NOT however enjoy vacuuming it. Along with the swimming pool we also got a 3k sf house. Oh did I mention the 5 kids, 3 cats and many stray neighborhood kids? I hate vacuuming the HOUSE much less the pool...lugging out the hose, filling it with water, attaching the vacuum head only to have it fall of 20 times..you know the drill. My husband suggested I "get a pool robot as a birthday gift". Great idea, hubs! I started the grewling process of trying to figure out which one to purchase. These puppies are NOT cheap. I narrowed it down to the Dolphin and Tiger Shark (? Hayward) I told hubs to surprise me and pick from those. The winner was the dolphin based off price and reviews. I haven't owned another vacuum so I'm no expert on the matter but it certainly did an excellent job! Didn't do great on the stairs (but I knew this from reviews) but got 98% of everything from the bottom and sides. (From a 2.5 hour run the first time. Was starting a horror movie and knew I wouldn't come get it out the pool in the dark lol) Navigated pool in a totally nonsensical matter but really got it all at the end of the day! Just a major tip here before I close: the box DOES NOT SHOW YOU HOW TO UNPACK IT. There are dummy filters inside that you need to replace (directions to replace filters ARE in the box) AND THERE IS A WEDGED PEICE OF STYROFOAM LEAVE IT BE. Hubs was gonna tear it out but I told him to chill while I looked it up. After some reading online; it's to remain intact and helps with the units bouancy. (According to representatives at Maytronics) Oh! And the reviewer who said "so easy a housewife can use it" frankly "it's so easy my husband can use it" (and no I'm not going to put my height and weight so you all can just picture the little housewife pulling the massive beast from the water lol)

Best Investment I could make for my pool!
I have now had this pool cleaner for 2 years now and I'm just finally getting to a review. This cleaner has held up, I have not had ANY problems with it, and it works just as good as the day I bought it! We fortunately have an outlet near by to plug it in so that is convenient for us. I like it much better than the kind I had to attach to my pool pump. The pool vacuum has been tucked away in my shed to never see the light of day, it's never needed. It's a little heavy pulling it out of the pool, but I'm a very small woman and it's never been a problem for me. This is hands down the best investment I made for my pool!

5 Stars After One Day - To Be Continued
5 Stars after one day. There were over a 1000 positive reviews on Amazon so this is one of the reasons I decided on this one. I was concerned that so many of any type last only a few years. So if a few years is all I am going to get then I may as well be as economical as possible. Boxed arrived ...a big box typical of Amazon. Opened the box and inside the box was a minor amount of packing and a smaller box containing the factory packed Nautilus. I don't know why Amazon does this....use boxes twice as big as they need to with minimal packing material. Anyways....I purchased the Nautilus...not Nautilus plus. Opened the box and found all the parts and minimal instructions. Also looked at the instructions online provided by some pool supply stores. You may find a video that states the screen filters are for packing/shipping purposes and to replace them with the other filters in the box. DON'T throw them away as they are not for shipping purposes. You get one set of screen filters and one set of fine particle filters. You simply remove the protective plastic from the wheels/tracks and drop it into the water. You will also find some styrofoam at the end of the wheel and inside the filter area. DON'T remove these.....they are permanent parts...leave them alone. so.....take the unit...place it in the pool......run the cable to the power supply and plug it in....then just turn the power supply on and it will run. The unit runs for a while, may stop, then move some more, turn, and wander around the pool. I have a 18 x 36 Vinyl lined in ground pool. Shallow end is about 3 feet and deep end is 9.5 feet. The unit does climb the walls and as soon as it no longer has traction it will fall off the wall and gently float to the floor and continue to work. I plan to use this when pool gets bad. Normally I will use my Polaris (many years old) for everyday clean up. This unit gets all the stuff the Polaris 280 misses. At the end of the cycle or when you are ready to put it away (simply push the power supply button to turn it off).....gently pull it to you by the cord.....grab the side handle and pull it out of the pool. Water will drain. I have a alt water pool so I rinse it (while I clean the easy to clean filters) and leave it upside down to dry and rest till the next use. So.....as time goes by I will update this review to see if this thing continues to impress me....and if it lasts. - To Be Continued. UPDATE 8/21/16: Still 5 stars! Used several times and does an excellent job cleaning the pool. My pool is saltwater so I do rinse it with a hose before I put it up. The filters (I am using the screen ones) have a lot of room. This thing is priceless after a storm. Gets all the leaves, sticks and junk out of the pool. - To be continued...

Works like a charm!
This product is fantastic! Just started our second season using it on our 16x32 inground vinyl liner pool. Gone are the days of waking up early to backbreaking manual cleaning and back washing. The dolphin climbs walls, remembers your pool layout, and picks up most dirt/leaves. Brushing is still recommended but this thing does 80% of the work for you. Operating and cleaning are simple. Runs for about a 3 hour cycle. The only down side is that it occasionally gets stuck trying to climb awkward corners in the pool...a simple tug on the sturdy power line breaks it free. Well worth the money!!
