A must have for drivers
It has saved me five times. That means it has saved me over $1000 which means it has paid for itself. Read the instructions and go online for what bands cops use in your state. I only have the Laser and K maxed out. It rarely gives you false positives. I have no idea why it has a function that tell you when you are 400 feet from your home but it is always nice hearing that little countdown when you are about to get home. I wish I had bought this thing years ago or at least invested in a radar detector ages ago. I bought it after getting a very controversial speeding ticket and ever since I am more relaxed when I drive.

Great radar detector to this point
Bought this to replace an aging detector that was not up with the times. Haven't had this long enough to say it's the greatest radar detector out there but have had it long enough to say it has detected police radar well ahead of time to give ample warnings. It also seems to have far less false alerts than my older detector and better than my Beltronics that I have in my other vehicle. It runs quiet but not so much that you can't hear alerts when first given and the blue light is easy on your eyes in night driving. I live in a larger city and it has detected radar in use with a very good warning distance to me so that's been a positive. So far I haven't found anything not to like about the Whistler CR85. If I run across any issues as I get more road use out of it I will update on here.

Works great!

It is fun to use
In states where it is legal(most of them), it provides the highest protection i have ever found (*It doesn't warn of Lazer that is behind a hill***(none that I'm aware of do...of course).. It is fun to use, customization is easy, and full operation in a short moment. It alerted me on nationwide trips without a miss, over and over. The best so far that i have ever used. I would buy it again. And i do recommend it when the subject is mentioned... for sure!!!!

Great detector I pushed it to the limit?
Got reassigned from nc to Alaska and had to drive one of my two cars myself to get there, it was brutal but here is how it worked. my configs: all bands on KA set to maxid, tfsr on, no pop. I traveled at a minimum 10 over max 20 over NC- nothing VA- cops everywhere thing picked every single one of them around corners and hills, had to set it on the dash cause its illegal there much harder to see and it still worked well. WV- nothing meaning didn't see cops Ohio- nothing Indianapolis-nothing Illinois- this one was hot cops and traffic cams, first and only full x band from a state trooper, also laser but Chicago traffic was so busy I can't see any cop chasing someone without getting killed. Wisconsin- decided to turn on pop mode big mistake, it greatly reduces the range please use that one at your own risk, don't know why I didn't get pulled over there. Minnesota- only state where I passed cops and nothing went off don't know if they are personally looking for speeders and then turn their radar on as soon as you pass, they all wait in the center median so keep eyes open. North dakota- one cop trying to hide at a gas station it's so open out there the Whistler has unbelievable range, was FLYING!!! Montana- cops use the old Texas technique where they all drive on the other side of the highway clocking traffic passing them across the median, as soon as you speed pass them they 180 around the median and get you. Your range is reduce with this technique but so are theres, your driving 70 the cop is driving 70 the other way with 140 difference, you must be quick here to stop as soon as the cr90 warns you. Idaho- nothing Washington- cops use laser here and traffic cams are EVERYWHERE, still speed through it though most cops use ka. Lots of unmarked cop cars though so be careful Alaska- few cops open range lots of mountains cops can't really hide Canada- speed limit was 55 for 400 miles of nothing drove 70 and picked off one cop passing me. I say this was a great investment for the price, just because you see the cop in the distance when the cr90 goes off does not mean he has you yet I am a prime example of that for sure. Make sure you mount it mid way on windshield not low it reduces range. The KA-ID is the best feature as well as the custom features selection. Must be careful in metro areas. Don't blare music or wear headphones/blue tooth to the point that you can't hear the system go off you only have a second or two stay alert.

Great distance detection
I really like this Radar Detector. It is the best I have ever owned. The signal strength is unbelievable. It has activated the alarm at a distance of over 2 miles, way before I could see the police cruiser coming. Their are a lot of settings available. There are 37 options to set to get the most out of how you use a detector. The compass uses an arrow with N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W and NW. The customizable alert notification is great. It also has stop light alert, a night mode and an over-speed. The only thing I wish the Cr90 had is to display the current speed. I would think if you can get an alert for going over the set speed that it could display the speed. You can buy a lot more expensive detectors that have more options, but for the price I paid, I am very happy. It has saved me twice in the month I have used the Whistler and could not be more happy. The best radar detector I have ever owned. I would highly recommend the Whistler Cr90 to anyone wanting a high quality, strong detector.

Great Radar Detector for the Budget Minded
So far, I am very pleased with this purchase. It seems to sniff out the police radar traps, and is fully customizable, for the various departments you are looking out for. I did have to set a filter on the X and K bands, as my expressway drive to work seemed to feature quite a few false alarms. You can customize each band as well, so you can run with no filters on the bands you don’t want to mess with, but tighten up the false alarms if you want. Plenty loud enough, lots of features, and so far, I am finding the performance to be above the price point. I recommend this detector for those folks who are hesitant to roll out $500-$600 for the big names. This one really works well.

A great detector that performs excellent at a reasonable price
This detector is a bit on the larger side. Not nearly as small as a passport but it is full of features that are configurable. You can leave at defaults, or turn off the irritating X band and other warnings. Originally I had a Cobra that I bought brand new. The Cobra only detected our local KA band cops when they were so close you could see the officer's face!! In my county, the police NEVER turn off their car radars so they can be detected far away! Numerous false alarms with the Cobra as well, where in the country with nothing within miles, I would get random emergency vehicle alerts and other false warnings. When I contacted Cobra support, they said that I could send this one week old detector back so they could TEST and REPAIR it!! No offer to replace. The Whistler has a good range while BEHIND other cars and obstacles of at least a half mile. On straightaways it is even much better. When you get many alerts, it not only advises you of the BAND but also the FREQUENCY which usually means this is NOT a falsie! It came with a sturdy bracket with quick release button , a dash stick pad and great instructions. This may not be quite a s god as a Passport, but for the price, it has already saved me multiple times (not that I ever speed!).

Bought 2018, very impressed.
Tried it out and works great! (I see allot of people complain about it's settings, you can change that!) This comes with a USB so you may do updates when available. It also comes with gps and sensitivity settings. I'm very impressed off of what a $150 radar detector can do. Yes it's not THE best, but it DEFINITELY is one of them.

After a month I'm still tweaking and fine tuning the settings
I needed to update my old detector since 1/2 of the cars on the road have blind spot monitoring and/or adaptive cruise and it kept getting false signals. After a month I'm still tweaking and fine tuning the settings, but the number of false signals is almost zero with this Whistler. Saved me from one ticket so far. The only negative I can think of is that it's powered by a cigarette lighter only(No lighter in my 2018 Ram). I had to buy an adapter so I could plug it into my usb for power. Haven't tried updating it via the usb/online option.
