I read all the reviews, and was skeptical when I read some of the less than glowing (no pun intended) reviews from unhappy customers. Most negative reviews said the tree looked cheap and as if it was covered in foil or silver tape. Well, if you expand the picture, you can pretty much see that, yes, it's covered in a silvery tape, and for a little over a ten-spot, it's really a rather inexpensive purchase when you consider what you're getting. I wasn't too disappointed when mine arrived. I expected a small, silver-coated tree that I would need to put the flowers on and then extend the adjustable limbs, and that's what I initially got, but it also has a lot of potential. Since my little tree is placed higher than eye level shelf, the silver tape isn't too noticeable. Besides, you could easily cover the silver tape with another color or patterned tape. White would look alright, as would black or a dark brown - and all are easy to find and not too pricey. Someone complained that the plastic flowers were clear; sounded like they expected a certain color, but the picture accurately shows clear flowers. Usually most items do a reasonably good job of showing what you'll get. But for those who think they need flowers for color, it would be fun and easy to try a water-based paint found in art-supply stores or ahem, here on Amazon. If you're using water-based, you should be able to wash it off if you decide you don't like the color. Yes, mine arrived looking a little squished and mangled. It's a lot like getting a Christmas tree out of a box: it's not going to look pretty like the picture until you take some time to shape it. The more time and effort you put into it, the better it will usually look, and the happier you'll most likely be with your tree. The limbs on this little tree are very flexible and this allows you to decide how you want it to look. It's actually fun to arrange the tree's height, and make it look more like a bonsai tree if you want. My little tree was short a couple of flowers, so I contacted the customer service folks and they responded immediately and cheerfully. Within a few short days, I had the necessary flowers to complete my tree. It can be difficult sometimes to get a company to respond to a problem, especially when it means sending out parts to complete the original order. It's additional postage, inventory, and labor to correct most issues, but this company did it right. They were quick, polite, professional, and accurate. You have to give credit where it's due. So, if you're looking for a cute, illuminated, detailed, inexpensive, little tree to brighten up a dark corner or to jazz up a room that needs a little something, this little silvery tree just might be for you. It's cute as it is - especially once you shape it - and at night when the tree is lit, the silver looks like dark bark. It's easy to shape, put on the flowers, and then plug-in. And it would be simple to tailor this to your own preferences: get a roll of tape that you like more than silver, and use water color paints to give the flowers some color! For some people, it's a completely finished item when it comes out of the box. For others, it's an opportunity to personalize it and have some fun!

First impressions can be deceiving!

We were looking for a nightlight type fixture in a Harry Potter themed room. This was priced really well, so we thought we would give it a try. When the package arrived we opened the box and started laughing. It truly looked like a stick wrapped in aluminum foil. We thought, well, you get what you pay for...but then....we stretched out the branches, added some (not all) of the flowers and plugged it in. Wow, talk about the ugly duckling turning into the beautiful swan! It looks fantastic and quite mystical when the lights are dimmed. We love it! I would highly recommend this item...but give it a chance when you first open it!

it looks amazing on display

I bought it for a gift and it's absolutely stunning. Yes, it's wrapped with foil but I have to say, whenever I'm at the persons' house whom I bought it for, it looks amazing on display.

I got it for my 5year old granddaughter who was sleeping on her own for the first time since coming out of the crib (we've shared a room until recently when I moved in at my Dad's to take care him). It was a very anxiety provoking event until she got her magic tree light.

I was looking for a small lighted tree to hold red birds by my front door. When I had a house I had a great full 5 ft tree, now I am in a studio apartment. This was the perfect solution. I love the metallic trunk and branches. Casts some light, but does not keep me awake at night, just a soft glow of the leds.
