Love this kilt! Husband needed a less formal kilt he didn't have to worry about ruining and this one is perfect. Heavy duty material, great fit, great style and color! He wears a 30-31 in jeans so we ordered a 34 and it fits perfectly since he wears his kilt on his hips rather than his waist! Couldn't be happier...now we just need one for my 14 year old!

I agonized over which kilt to buy my husband, a first-time kilt-wearer, for Christmas. This turned out to be the perfect choice. The fit is perfectly. It reaches the perfect length. The pockets are really handy; my husband has commented that it's great to have pockets outside of the kilt because, unlike those sewn into pants, they don't cause the garment to bind. He especially likes the open pockets sewn onto the outside of the main pockets, since he directs a choir and can put his pitch pipe into one those pockets for easy access. He opened this Christmas morning and immediately wore it to church to direct the choir! He got mixed reactions; the men (rather conservative) didn't seem to know what to make of it, but the first comment from a woman was "great legs!" I think he looks great in it and it IS very manly!! He has wanted a kilt for a long time, but the traditional multiple-pleat kilts are prohibitively expensive, he couldn't find the exact tartan, etc. Then, on an episode of "Wipeout," he saw a contestant wearing a kilt that looked like leather. Turned out to be a Utility Kilt, something we'd never heard of. I knew I'd have to get him one, and it won't be his last! He loves this kilt and plans to get more. It arrived super-fast, too.

I grew up wearing kilts that were handed down in my family so my kilt experience has always been with very heavy wool, Skene tartan kilts and I will always prefer those over the plain black kilt that that one guy who's maybe 25% Scottish and has never even heard a person speak in Scotts before has on. I have wanted a utili-kilt for a while though since I'm not big on wearing sporrans (aka the og fanny pack) and I do a lot of backstage work so I needed it to be black. This one gets that job done well and after exchanging sizes (I ended up switching from using their directions to using my usually pant waist size and it fit a million times better than the first one, the size exchange process was also very seamless) it fits as well as any of my other kilts. It's definitely no traditional kilt but it fits like one and is comfortable enough, just not warm enough in the winter like my heftier wool kilts are. The only issue I have is that despite getting the color "Black Out", when you put this up against an item of clothing that is actually black, this looks a bit off-black, almost dark green. It is a pet peeve when my blacks don't match but I can probably fix it with some rit dye if it really eats at me or gets worse after a few washes.

Mom got me a similar kilt for my 50th birthday. I LOVED it so much I found this similar kilt here on Amazon, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Astoundingly comfortable in all ways. The ladies will appreciate this next part. I can bend, lean, stretch, spread feet apart, stand or move any way I want. And no matter what I do - i'm COVERED! "My modesty protected," as they say. As "cool" and well ventilated as the kilt is - I strongly recommend briefs or boxers beneath, lest the boys suffer rash & chaffing. Another neat thing about the kilt - when using the mens room, I never touch a single snap or buckle. Whether #1 or #2 - either way - the kilt simply lifts all the way up as needed. A moment later, my business is complete - i simply drop it back down again. No muss, no fuss! :-) Scottish Engineering at its finest!

I've owned and worn an old UTILIKILT for more than a dozen years, and having lost about 50 lbs recently and about 6 inches off my waist, I decided to get a replacement. That old kilt is made of heavy canvas, colored a dull orange, and it wears like iron, but it doesn't move or flex unless I encounter a very heavy wind to move it. Because it doesn't flex, it looks very 'artificial'. I dyed it dark brown and washed it numerous times to loosen it up without much luck. My UT Kilt arrived and I tried it on immediately. It's half the weight of that old kilt, perfectly stitched fits wonderfully. I intentionally bought mine just a tad loose, and the measurement they sent me was precisely what I needed. DO pay attention to their size chart information. Measure about one inch below your belly button with a cloth measuring tape. Then I recommend that you add TWO INCHES to that measurement. My own waist is 36 inches. If I'd ordered a size 38 UT Kilt, it would have been exactly the right size. However, I most often wear heavier weight shirts, so I added 4 inches to my measurement, instead of just 2 inches. It's still just a tiny bit loose, and I can easily take up the slack with my waist belt, and with the two waist straps and buckles built into the kilt. If I gain a bit of weight, or add an inch to my waist because of holiday feasting, I'm still going to have a kilt that fits properly. If you get it too small, it will NOT stretch to fit! I'm 6-feet tall; the kilt is 22-inches long from top hem to bottom hem, so if you wear it properly, the bottom hem partially covers your knees. Other kilts sold here on Amazon tend to run 24-inches long or longer, and the shorter 22-inch length was the final factor in my decision to buy from UT KILTS.The belt loops are exceptional, and the UT Kilt folks also carry ab excellent 2 1/4-inch belt that is perfect for the job. However, all the Celtic belt buckles listed here on Amazon are configured for a 1 1/2-inch belt, and there are numerous reviews discussing that mismatch in size. So I opted to continue using the 2-inch heavy leather work belt that I've worn for years with my old kilt. It will work just fine until I can find the right buckle. I'd recommend this UT Kilt to anyone who hasn't tried wearing a kilt before, and I give it TWO ENTHUSIASTIC THUMBS UP for any veteran kilt wearers who are considering a purchase.

If you've ever worn a kilt before, this review isn't for you. This is my first kilt, so I'm not a kilt expert. 1. Go measure the thickest part of your waist RIGHT NOW. Don't think you know what it is. And don't think that there is any give in this kilt, either. There isn't. 2. Undo the entire kilt before you try to put it on. Don't try to slide it on like a tube. 3. The flat part goes in the front. The belt loops go in the back. There aren't any in the front. You could wear a belt with this, but it would have to be a wide stiff one to look halfway decent. 4. The buttons go in the front. There are two buckles on the side to help adjust the fit. 5. The pocket flaps on the side can be unbuttoned to store keys and a wallet. There are no pockets for you to stow your hands, if you're used to standing around with your hands in your pockets. 6. The material is very heavy duty, almost like an Army tent, but not as rough. This thing will probably last forever. 7. It seems like a good cross between a work outfit, like for hiking, and a formal outfit, like for a ceremony. I bought a Scotland t-shirt to wear with this, and the t-shirt seems a bit casual and light-duty for it (pajama-like?). I also think I need to get some hiking boots with wool socks to wear with this. 8. If you want to return it, the sellers are very nice and accommodating. But you will also be out 20 bucks. Wearing a kilt for the first time is strange. You initially feel like you are wearing a dress. But when you take it off and put on shorts, you will feel even weirder, like you are wearing some skimpy outfit. So you'll go and put the kilt back on. Now it feels cool. Functional. Manly, because you are ready for anything: formals, chopping wood, laying around, flashing women who ask the obvious. You then cut off the tag and smile, because you now own a kilt, and you can feel your beard growing even thicker.

It has been almost a year now and i have worn my kilt every day of it! Rain, Sun, Sleet, Snow, it has and continues to serve me very well! Every single day someone comments on it, and in a years time ive had only one sneer haha. I am fully converted, the only pants i wear are pajama pants now. If you ever wondered, if you ever dared. Get a damn Kilt! Scottish, Irish, Neither, who cares. I love everything about it, have had to repair minor stitching once, standard maintenance imo. Buckles are holding fast, belt loops arent frayed or broken. Will be buying more, i have my eyes on the tactikilt for hunting season and another black for work.

I purchased these for my hubby. He tried to insist I buy the same size as his jeans, but I would not. Too many people mentioned in their reviews to NOT buy your jean size! They had to have good reasons for stating this, so I insisted I measure hubby's waist. He was not happy about it, but he finally agreed. So I measured around his waist at the belly button (I kind of pulled the tape measure tight as he sucked in his gut). That number was the size I ordered and they fit him perfectly!!!! So do NOT order your jean size, MEASURE YOUR WAIST and order that size. The quality is excellent and they were very comfortable (according to hubby). He wants to wear them everywhere now. I realize many say if you were underwear underneath, then it's just a skirt, but I still made him wear boxers when he wore them around our friends (I know our friends would try to grab a glance to determine if he's wearing them traditionally or not).

OMG why is it not "socially acceptable" for a man to wear a Skirt!! I had been told in the past that I should try wearing a Kilt, as I enjoy feeling "free" while hiking or working. So after some quick research about fitting I decided I would jump into the Kilt world with the UT Utility Kilt which was priced a lot lower then a lot of the other products out there. Upon its arrival it seems to be very well made, out of a strong canvas material. The snaps are well made, as well as all the hems. As stated by other reviewers measuring is important, as you don't wear a Kilt at your waist, but higher up, so if you are like me, with a bit of a beer belly, you may need the extra couple of inches. It does have large belt loops also, so you can wear it lower and use a belt if you prefer. I absolutely love wearing it. I feel like I'm getting weird looks at the grocery store or out and about, but in the world we live in now, what should be so weird about a man in a Kilt anyway! I did have 1 time where where a group of teenagers made a comment, which I gladly remarked back that they should try it as its amazing to be free. It really makes me think what a weird society we live in, where a man in a Kilt is strange, but a women can wear a string bikini and its OK! I use it all the time for hiking, which is perfect as you have no chaffing, a nice breeze and no restrictions on movement. I do have to think twice when sitting down, and getting out of the car to prevent a "sneak peek", but that's getting easier. The pockets are deep and have ample room. I would like to have another pocket lined up more with where normal pants pockets are located, but that isn't that big of deal. So all those looking at these reviews you can't go wrong with this product, and I think it is a great introduction before you spend the big bucks on some other name brand...

This is a well made product, with great attention to detail, just remember to pay attention to the details when you order it. The standard utility has an improved model without the straps on the side but has more snaps on front. Sleeker look but slightly less traditional. Watch the fitting video. I say again, save yourself time and effort by doing it right the first time. WATCH THE FITTING VIDEO and follow his directions. He's not kidding when he says the jean size will not be the same. Kilts ride differently. He's recently added a style with a comfort waist, check that out if you think it might work better. I ordered larger so it could ride lower. Note the length of the standard kilt is 22" for you taller folks.(I doubt he just picked the length at random) He does offer custom kilts made to length if you think it will make that much difference but 22" will usually put it right at the knee. The cargo pockets at the sides are not obtrusive and well thought. One can easily slip a cell phone, wallet and clip a pocket knife. Other stacked pockets have covered tops. Fast personable service and a pleasure to do business with. A good value for the quality. A great first kilt. Wear them everyday.
