For people complaining about coated pieces and 'shoddy' quality, they are clearly buying the entry-level mixer. This one is the real deal. It's heavy-duty and the hook, beater and whip components are all uncoated metal. This is the quality I grew up with, so glad to have found it once again for my grown-up home. As the instruction manual indicated, a bit of adjustment might be necessary to ensure your tools don't smack into the glass. Mine needed a bit more than I expected so I would advise everyone to check carefully before you start beating. You don't want to damage the lovely glass batter bowl due to negligence (though I can't imagine it cracking, it's THICK!)

I won't lie, this thing makes me smile when I walk into the kitchen. I bought the metal-bowl version (KSM150) to make cookies after my hand mixer started to smoke during a particularly intense doughing session. I've used it primarily for that and pizza crusts. Things that can be mixed with a handheld whisk, I opt for that instead. Do you need a stand mixer? No, probably not, but it sure takes the grunt work out of stirring and kneading. It also mixes more consistently than I could by hand and classes up the counter. If you're set on a stand mixer, should you buy this one? Maybe. It's not designed for huge amounts of heavy dough or constant use. It's built well, but it's not an industrial machine. It audibly strains with a double helping of cookie dough (around 25 oz of flour) and kneading wet, thick pizza dough. With that sort of load, there's no speed difference between setting 6 and 10, though of course you'd never knead that fast anyway. KitchenAid has some mixers that are ostensibly a bit stronger. They're all lift-style: instead of tilting the head back, the head sits higher and you raise and lower the bowl. I prefer the tilt-head style. The paddles never get out of the way with the bowl-lift, getting the bowl to lock in place is a jerky movement, and it takes up a lot of vertical counter space. What you do get for the extra cost of the Pro series is a better dough hook, a metal gearbox, more power, and a slightly larger bowl. Even these higher-power mixers will fall short of alternatives from Bosch and Electrolux for serious breadmaking, however. If you go the other direction with the cheaper Classic Plus, you lose 1/2 QT of bowl capacity, a handle on the bowl, the splash guard, and color choices besides white. Otherwise, it's functionally identical to this model and about the same power. This mixer also came with a recipe book in addition to the splash guard. I haven't used either. The guard is a fiddly thing, you spill less just tilting the mixer up and dumping your ingredients in. I do think the extra 1/2 quart and the handle are worth something though (especially for double recipes) and could justify opting for the Artisan. This particular model has a glass bowl relative to the more popular metal style. The glass is a lot heavier and less durable, but it does have measuring units and a pouring spout. The translucency solves a problem that really isn't a problem. Likewise, for measuring, I have my metal bowl on top of a kitchen scale because doughs turn out more consistent if I go by ounces instead of volume. Different recipes may benefit more. There's a lot of talk about Hobart units. Prior to about 1985, these mixers were made by Hobart, a supplier of industrial kitchen equipment. Later models are made by Whirlpool. There's some debate whether the new models are as good as the old ones, particularly in regard to the gearbox. My take is that if you can find an old Hobart (e.g., K4SS, K5-A, K5SS with a metal 'Hobart' placard) and it runs well, it's likely to keep running well no matter what you throw at it. But it won't be as clean and may not fit certain new bowls, paddles, or attachments. New or old, these KitchenAid mixers are dead-simple to repair. The motor brushes are replaceable without dismantling the unit ($10 or so and hidden beneath the black circular covers), the speed governor is mechanically adjustable, and the gearbox is straightforward and easily accessible. This means that they're intriguing on the used market. People receive them as gifts and put them in the local classifieds with minimal use or minor flaws you can fix. Typical transaction prices are $125-$175, and I've seen this mixer as low as $75. For new units, Kohls has them on sale quite often. It's a doppelganger for the Pro 5 and includes the superior spiral dough hook. Whatever you buy, try to have it on (even with an empty bowl) for a few minutes at least once a week or two. The oil-leak problem occurs when the oil breaks down from disuse. If the mixer runs with any frequency, you'll never encounter it.

To the packager's of the KitchenAid Mixer. Outstanding!!!!!!!! People who wish to purchase this mixer buy mail have no worries, your mixer will arrive in great shape. This item was packaged so well by Amazon and KitchenAid that someone would have to delibertly want damage the product to be damaged it. Love the color !!!! Put this product on your counter top and watch how it brightens your kitchen up. This mixer is the ulimate in home mixers. Its quit. Do not get me wong it not silent, but remember mom's electric egg beater and how noisey they where. Well not this one. I took this machine and gave it a test drive. I wanted to break this machine in right. I ran this machine with a bowl of water for 20 minutes on low, then 1 hour on low, then 1 hour on high breaking in the gears. Some customers complained of heat on the head of the machine. To hot to the touch. Well there was no heat to speak of on my machine after the one hour runs. To this day my machine is quite and cool headed. Note most mixing times are less then 10 minutes. The glass bowl is great. You can see how your ingredents are being mixed together. The tilit back head makes installing and removal of tools simple. Scraping the bowl edges is easy but if you buy the KitchenAid Flex Edge Beater Fits 4.5 Quart and 5 Quart Tilt Head Mixers your scraping of the bowl edges is kept to a bare minium. I truly love this beater, it is a true time saver. I have made many cheese cakes and dessert dishes with this mixer and all have turned out great. If you deside to buy this mixer you will not regret it. This mixer is worth every penny you spend on it.

I've wanted this stand mixer for ages and finally bought myself one. It arrived quickly and in good condition. I'd purchased a different brand, cheaper mixer in the past, but soon discovered that I could never get any other attachments for it. Now I have the KitchenAid mixer and can add whatever attachments I need in the future. This mixer is VERY heavy and sturdy. I love the glass bowl, b/c you can easily see everything mixing inside, but it also is heavy to work with. I think the lighter metal bowl would've been a better choice, but I am still happy with my purchase and have no regrets. It has stood up to anything I've made so far and has the power to cut through any task with ease. The red color looks gorgeous in my kitchen, too!

The wife is having trouble stirring things. I'm was always in the kitchen stirring for her. This got me out of the kitchen and her back in it. The only problem is I'm putting on weight because she's cooking again!!! Very cool and the gadgets make everything about cooking easy.

Love the color and the clear glass bowl. I'm replacing a 30-year old KitchenAid mixer in Harvest Gold (you have to be a senior citizen to remember this color!) and picked the color to go with my recently remodeled kitchen. The mixer itself is just as terrific as my first. I don't like the cast metal beater as much as the nylon coated version. Luckily I am able to use the beaters and bowls from my old 4-quart mixer with this one.

I purchased this mixer for my wife as an early Christmas gift and it's been a solid performer through Thanksgiving and Christmas. The controls are easy and it's well constructed. The glass bowl is really nice. The only thing we are really missing is the pouring shield (which is a separate purchase). We also purchased the flex edge beater and definitely recommend it with this unit.

Excellent results, easy to use, has really slow stir setting that doesn't kick up flour cloud! Can't do that with hand mixer. I like seeing the mixing through glass bowl. Made Xmas pie few hours after received. Wish this came with bowl cover and mixer scrapes sides, so I bought those separate. Whipping icing is great too!!

What a beautiful color!! These pictures do not do it justice, it looks like a pearl blue and oh my goodness!! The glass bowl makes it look so much better, I also have a white mixer and it has the metal bowl which isnt as attractive. I work for whirlpool making these and the first time I saw this color I knew I had to have it!! Months later I finally got the courage to buy it! I am not sucking up to my employer or trying to sell their products, but I love all of my Kitchen Aid products. The only thing wrong with it is the trim band gap which I probably wouldn't even notice if I didn't know to look for it.

I am so glad I decided to purchase my KitchenAid 5-Qt. Artisan mixer before the 2017 holiday season. It has uplifted my status as a cook, and has certainly enhanced my efforts to become an authentic, skillful pie crust maker. This machine will withstand the test of time, it is so well built, it should last for generations; unless I decide to upgrade and purchase a newer model in the future which has yet to be designed by KitchenAid. However, it will not be necessary. This mixer is gloriously sturdy with a professional vibe. The effect on its owner is of competence and confidence in the kitchen, especially if you like to cook your own food. I love to make my own pie crusts, cheesecakes, and other desserts. The KitchenAid 5-Qt. is able to handle it all quietly and efficiently. The bowl is larger than expected; yet it feels comfortable as it is handled. Stylistically, the kitchenAid 5Qt. Artisan simply elevates the appearance of your counter especially if it is placed without a cover opposite the stove or refrigerator counter areas which then creates a visual triangle. My Candy Apple Red KitchenAid Artisan mixer is gorgeous to look at yet it allows me to cook delicious, memorable food for my family. I am very happy with my KitchenAid mixer!
