Naysayers, Begone

What can I say? I'm a huge Sonic The Hedgehog fan, and when I first saw the screenshots of this game coming to Wii U, I knew it had promise. My opinions started to sway once reviews started pouring in, but thank God I didn't listen to those people. This game is exactly what I wanted in a new Sonic game. Great gameplay, a colorful soundtrack, secret hidden collectables, and a truly great and funny story. The only part of.the soundtrack I didn't like in the whole game is unfortunately the title screen music which happens to be the main theme. It mainly just keeps looping and I get bored of it very quickly. Besides that one song, I thought the soundtrack was phenomenal and genuinely got me pumped to play the game every time I turned it on. The gameplay greatly reminded me of Super Mario Galaxy, and even though they weren't able to achieve the same level of perfection that it has, they still did a dang good job. There are a few missteps in the gameplay like bad camera angles, but I found myself getting used to them over time. Getting this game as a Wii U exclusive is a huge score for me. It's one of the best Sonic games they have released in many years and I am proud to have it in my collection on Wii U.

This game is enjoyable I like all of the different things that you can do with Sonic and the levels it's fun. I enjoy the graphics and the different perspectives of the point of view during the game play.

Misunderstood Game

This game does have some flaws but I'm still giving it 5 stars overall because it is a great new direction for the sonic franchise in my opinion. I also feel that this game is highly misunderstood by the game reviews and players alike. If you play this game treating it like a whole new game with new controls its excellent but if you play this expecting a fast paced sonic game you might be disappointed. Yes sonic is slowed down in this game, yes the controls take a little getting used to(sonic has a kick/homing attack/spin dash/climbing), yes some cheap deaths can be expected, yes some parts are difficult and might frustrate you, and yes the boss battles could have been better. STILL this is a great game and I had a great time playing it. I might be in the minority but I felt that the slowing down of sonic just made him that much more precise. Sonic controls wonderfully in this game once you've got all the moves down. He isn't all that slow either, if you want to speed run through the levels you just need to master the spin dash and double jump to blaze your way through if you really wanted to(check some youtube videos of players who are good at speed runs). Sonic has some new moves as well like the ability climb up trees and wall run across walls, it takes some practice but soon enough you'll run across walls collecting rings and climbing up walls to different areas. I really enjoyed all of sonic's moves and felt the controls were spot on. I really enjoyed many of the levels as well and even though some parts in some levels were difficult I surprisingly enjoyed the challenge, others may get frustrated but it depends on the player. There are some cheap deaths throughout the game but nothing that's unavoidable. The boss fights could have been better but I still enjoyed some of them since they had some cool concepts involved even though they were easy. The color powers are okay but nothing special though I did like the drill and a few others. I basically played this game like a platformer, I took my time in some levels and blazed through others depending on the level design. I really liked this game and with the update that gives you a life for every 100 rings and more lives when you get a game over, it is even more enjoyable. I played the game after this update maybe that's why I did not mind the difficult parts. Also the yoshi island dlc is free and was quite cool. I can recommend this game to platforming fans and sonic fans if they treat this game like a new one which it actually is. I liked this new direction for sonic but I understand that some people may not. At the price it is going for nowadays I say it's worth it. Happy gaming. PS-it is one of the games worth playing on Wii U and can serve as a holdover for people waiting for the bigger releases coming this year.

quite possibly the best 3D Sonic yet

Ok, so don't be put off by the mixed reviews of this game. Since its release, the game has been updated and improved significantly, especially the removal of the forced Sonic Colors motion controls, which was one of the main complaints about the game. I do think this game has a bit of a learning curve for those used to the controls of 3d Sonic games of the past- I wasn't sure I liked it at first, but once I adapted to it, I found myself really enjoying it. Plus, this is the best looking Sonic game ever, with some of the most inventively fun levels yet. Now let me mention the DLC for this game, as it is something truly special. There is a NiGHTS themed level which is ok, but in an unheard of crossover with Nintendo, there is a Yoshi's Island themed level, and an amazing Zelda themed level, which seems mainly a mix of Ocarina of Time and Skyward Sword, and it's just plain awesome. And, all of the DLC is free. We may not get a Sonic Team developed Sonic game again, or at least for some time- the next Sonic game has been turned over to a western developer, and what they have done so far with their new character designs looks truly dreadful, so I recommend you enjoy this one while you can.

Nice exclusive

If you are a sonic fan and played his previous 3D games, then this one is the best 3D Sonic game you will play. Unlike other Sonic 3D games which suffer mostly from glitches and weird control. this game has better a control, better stages, and overall more appealing. I would say that this game and Sonic Generations are the best Sonic games
