When my son was diagnosed with torticollis and plagiocephaly at 8 weeks old, I did about a million hours of research online about how to avoid getting a helmet. At the time, his flat spot was 11.4mm. After reading reviews and watching videos, I decided to buy the Lifenest mattress topper. I am SO glad that we did. My son slept well on it with no issues. I liked that, if he spit up, it went down through the mesh sheet and he wasn't laying in it. I wasn't sure if it was actually doing anything for his flat spot until he was measured again about a month later. His spot went from 11.4mm to 6mm! His PT was thrilled and said she has never seen such a quick improvement. I am sure that going to physical therapy and actively repositioning him also had some to do with it, but I feel that spending 11-12 hours sleeping on this at night was a major help. If you have a child with torticollis or a flat spot and are even considering this, do it. I would so much rather spend 100 bucks than have to get a helmet and deal with all that goes with it. He is now 8 months old and no longer uses this (stopped at 5 months) but his spot is now reduced to 1-2mm and his head has rounded out nicely. I am very thankful that I found this!

I began to notice a part of my 6 week old's head start to flatten out and I deduced it was from his preferred head position in his crib and the the swing we'd been putting him in the last few weeks. My wife and I were getting concerned and began pouring through the various articles, blogs, and video's on the Internet about treatment for what we perceived to be mild plagiocephaly. Since the severity wasn't that great and he was still very young, we opted not to contact his doctor before his 2 month appointment and try some recommended home remedies before bringing him in. I ran across a video of a mom whose son had the same condition (in addition to Torticollis) and purchased this bed as part of her regimen (physical therapy and other baby products) to correct her son's condition. She followed up her initial video with a follow up and was happy to report that his head showed signs of rounding out and attributed the turnaround primarily from the use of the Lifenest. You can read that review here as well. My little guy has been using the bed for a little over a week now and I have to say that we've noticed a considerable improvement in the shape of the affected side of his head. There is still a "flat" appearance compared to the other side, but it is noticeably smoother and I'm anticipating greater improvement over the next few weeks. I can't give all the credit to the bed, because we've also been using other products and keeping him off his back as much as we can throughout the day. Having said that, the Lifenest has been great because it gives us some peace of mind (flat head, SIDS) and he seems to sleep better. As new parents, we weren't aware of the statistics around babies developing flat heads from laying on their backs. Considering medical intervention isn't typically covered by most insurance and cost thousands, this was a great investment. *** Update Feb 2015 **** It's been roughly 4 weeks since we've used the LifeNest. We continue to see slight improvements to the side of the head that was noticeably flat. We continue to make sure that he has plenty of tummy time in addition to ensuring that his head doesn't lay flat down on a flat surface for an extended amount of time. Looking at his head from the top, there is definitely more symmetry, though not entirely round. I'm not overly concerned about that as I don't have the roundest skull so I'll chalk that up to a bit of my own DNA at play here. I've noticed lately that he sleeps facing the side opposite of the "flat" side so I'm encouraged this will help promote a more "rounded" growth by taking more pressure off that affected side. My baby will be 3 months old soon and I feel like we've at least gotten him on the road of getting his head shaped more symmetrical. I'm even more encouraged that the changes will be even more evident in another month. ***** March 30 2015 Update **** SUCCESS! Well our little guy is a four months now, nearly 20 lbs, and has started to get pretty good at rolling over the last couple days so the Lifenest is going to have be retired. I'm happy to report that his head is symmetrical and the flat area on the one side has rounded out. I can say that this bed along with the other things that we did to keep our baby's head from resting on hard/semi-hard surfaces for an extended amount of time paid off. I'd also cite the fact that we "caught" it early enough to take corrective action before he got too old and our options ran out. I hope many of you with the same concerns we had have the same results. Best of luck!

It's all great, just wish it could be bigger in size.

Great service with concerns I had. Emailed them about a concern I had and 10 minutes later got a phone call for a answer to my question. VERY impressed. My baby seems to like it as well. Great product,

I wish I would have found this bed sooner! Our son has a flat spot from sleeping with his head tilted to the right. I stumbled onto this product when reading a mommy blog on plagiocephaly. And, I thought I had already read everything out there. I have been trying various products (boppy noggin nest, tortle, etc) for the past 2 months to help the problem and nothing seemed to help. Enter the LifeNest... his head is definitely not perfect, but the LifeNest has helped it from getting worse. Hopefully, he'll get another couple months in the LifeNest to help round out his little noggin. Wouldn't have had this problem if we had the LifeNest from the start!!

A friend recommended this product to me, the reviews scared me but my friend had said it was an amazing product. I am glad I bought this item. My baby was born at 22inches long and is currently over 24inches at 6weeks of age. The mesh area for the baby to lay fits her whole body and there is still a lot of room for her to grow. The area that is not mesh and is just the mattress is not hard as I had read from another reviewer.

recommended by our pediatrician for preemie newborn with minor head flattening on one side and reflux. too big for bassinet, as even the topper is made to fit in a standard crib. We propped up the head end slightly to help with the reflux. After two weeks there was no additional flattening/slight improvement and spit up drains through the mesh. Baby is spitting up less at night and gaining weight at a faster rate. Be sure to order a few of the fitted sheets so you always have a spare when one is in the wash.

I bought the mattress topper based on my pediatrician's recommendation, and had it ready and waiting when I came home from the hospital with my daughter.. I'm telling you, her head is a PERFECT beautiful sphere. Everyone in my Mommy & Me class was totally jealous! Two of those kids even needed helmets, the flat spots were that bad, but literally everyone commented on how she looked like a doll. She was small so she didn't outgrow it until she was about 5/6 months and competently rolling over. If you don't want to go straight to crib, I would still suggest putting this on the floor in your room and don't bother with a bassinet. If you can use this right away, you will keep the baby safely on its back and have NO worries about getting flat spots! BUY BUY BUY BUY

Great mattress fits in the pak n play too.

Ive purchased hundreds of amazon products but never have taken the time to write a review. This product is a life saver for a new mom with a baby that only likes stomach sleep. I could not get my newborn to sleep anywhere other than my chest and thought id never sleep again. She sleeps straight through till her next feeding now, and the risk of SIDS is diminished. Amazing product. A must have.
