One of many devices I use to keep my refrigerator size gun safe outside in a non heated garage. If you’re interested in what I did, here is my rundown. Cold weather storage... 1. 24” goldenrod on the bottom floor of safe. 2. One Peet Dryer (small one) - second shelf. 3. Some of those rechargeable - moisture grabbing crystals. $12 My safe has 3 ac and 2 USB ports for power.... My Safe maintains a steady 66f with 45 humidity level. This is maintained when outside temperatures are 25 to 40. I have yet to experience what happens when the temperature drops to zero, but my garage will still be in the 20’s. I’m confident the safe temperature will stay between 55 - 65. I only need the dehumidifier crystals in the summer for some reason. Now that it’s cold the crystals stay blue. In the summer they go pink an 5 days. For those of you wondering about garage or basement storage, that’s my experience.

I ordered the ORIGINAL Golderod in this listing with a lifetime warranty and got the new Chinese one with a one year warranty. I'mnsending it back to Amazon for replacement. Goldenrod (TM) USA was bought out by Battenfeld China. What's the difference? Godenrod (TM): lifetime warranty Battenfeld: cheaper made and only a one year warranty The Goldenrod (TM) heats to 150F, Battenfeld heats to 120F

Not sure where there's so much drama in some of the reviews. The one I got says, "Made in America" and does the job. Essentially what you're buying is a very small space heater to warm the air in your safe and thus dry the air. I also purchased a digital hygrometer to measure air temp and humidity. Ensure you get the length right. You probably want the biggest one your safe can hold. Also, it's AC powered so your safe must have a hole for an AC line.

I bought a GoldenRod for my 64 gun safe and it works extremely well. The temp in the safe stays about 8 degrees above ambient and humidity stays about 40%. I have no corrosion whatsoever on any of the safe's contents and it is in a garage without climate control. I'm extremely please with the product overall. One specific feature I like is the customizable cord length. My safe has a 110V outlet inside, and I cut the cord to the perfect length to make it less obtrusive and harder to snag with the butt of a weapon. Instructions were very clear for how to cut and terminate the cord. Mounting the goldenrod is also quite easy, you just screw two small brackets into the insulation in the safe and it snap in, I mounted mine horizontally directly below the door to allow the heat to rise throughout the safe. One final note is that although it doesn't get particularly hot the GoldenRod is nevertheless unpleasantly hot to the touch, so take care when working around it in the bottom of the safe.

Excellent Dehumidifier for Large Safes!!! The 36-inch model is quite long so make sure you are a large safe. I also found their "mounting" brackets - just a couple cheap plastic holders to be useless but I couldn't mount the unit on my safe floor anyways because it got in the way of the door / contents. The solultion? I have this unit hanging vertically on the inside right corner. It fits perfectly there and is easily supported by some ammo (or anything else that weighs about 5 pounds+) on the upper shelves of the safe. Before buying a 70 pint / day Dehumidifier, the unfinished basement room where my safe is located was running about 60-70% humidity during the summer and the inside of the safe was near 50% even with various rechargable units and packets. Now humidity in the safe runs steadily near 20% and never exceeds 30%. It's true that all this unit does is procude enough heat to thwart moisture, but apparently that's all it takes!! Regarding the "heat," I just make sure the rod is free standing and not touching anything. It's not going to burn your arm off but you wouldn't want to to grab it with both hands either. As long as its not directly touching your valuables or the interior of a non-metal safe you are good to go. So happy I bought this, you will be too!!! PS for those interested, the dehumidifier I bought from Amazon is the "hOmeLabs 9 Gallon (70 Pint) Dehumidifier Energy Star Safe Mid Size Portable Dehumidifiers for Basements Large Rooms up to 4000 Sq Ft with Fan Wheels and Drain Hose Outlet to Remove Odor and Allergens" - I LOVE IT!!! Had a plumber hook it up for continuous running with no emptying buckets - unit works great!

It's a Golden Rod; the best out there! Nice long cord with a removable plug makes for a simple and quick installation. I mounted mine on a piece of hardwood to make it both stable and movable instead of drilling holes in my tool chest and safe. Update: 10/20/19 Working great in my two safes, but the 36" was struggling to keep a temperature differential in my garage large tool chest. I added a second 36" golden rod and that did the trick! Why? Safes are much better sealed so a smaller Golden Rod works fine. My tool chest is in an unheated garage and like all tool chests, it is not sealed. Heat escapes readily, so more heat is needed to maintain a critical temperature differential. Without maintaining differential of at least 5 degrees F, condensation is possible.

I ordered this small 12" for a little Sentry safe that's mainly to keep honest people out of. It's not much of a safe. I have other of the larger Golden Rods in my Gun Safes. I've had these same ones in use for decades. I have not had to replace any of them. I just recently checked them to make sure they were still working after all these years. Yes you can find heated rods for less money but to me the Golden Rods are worth every penny. I know they work. They have a lifetime warranty , it's very doubtful you'll ever use it. One last thing. It says to put them in the front just inside the door. I had never noticed or remember reading that before. With that being said I have all mine including this new one mounted in the rear of the safe at the lowest point ( at the base of the safe). I can't imagine it working any better putting it in the front. In the rear it's out of the way. They are easy to damage the tube if you drop something on them.🔫🔫 Update I bought 2 more of these 12" Golden Rods since I did this original review. Just like all my other Golden Rods, I put them in place, plug them in and a short time later you can feel the heat. Someone mentioned in an old review that they were sent one Made in China. I can't blame them returning it. All 3 of these are the real Golden Rods, says right on the packaging Made in the USA and a Lifetime warranty.

So far, so good. The AC plug is removable, to make it easier to get the power cord through the safe’s access hole. The metal tube heats up to a temperature that feels about like that of a hot plate pulled immediately out of a dishwasher’s drying cycle. Due to it being hot to the touch, I like that it was supplied with two plastic , snap on style brackets. These brackets can be used for mounting the metal tube to the safe’s wall, or they can be used as “feet” that keep the hot tube off your safe’s floor. Per the directions, this “dehumidifier” is designed to be used horizontally, ideally at the lowest part of your safe. This is NOT a dehumidifier, in the technical sense of the word. This device warms the interior of your safe, slightly, which prevents condensation from forming on the safes interior metal walls and metal gun parts. Think of it like this, a cold can of beer will “sweat”, if it’s colder than the surrounding air. A hot beverage, warmer than the surrounding air temp will not. This product would likely work even better, when paired with desiccant, as a fail safe. The desiccant actually does dehumidify. Moisture won’t condense on the inside of your safe if there isn’t any. Just like moisture that’s present in the air is less likely to condense on surfaces that are warmer than the surrounding air . Overall, it looks to be a great value for the money, as long as it doesn’t break

What can I say, turns on and heats up as it is suppose to do. Hot to the touch but not burning. Has clear instruction to dis-assemble and re-assemble if needed. I did not have to, because I have outlets inside my safe. Has kept my 19 cubic ft safe (in dry basement) at 55% humidity at 67 degrees since running 24/7. First day of install, safe was at 71% @ 65 degrees but the weather and basement has gotten colder, while safe has stay consistent.
