Game changer for ice cream addicts!
So I'm just going to say this. A couple of weeks ago I found this machine for sale in a local grocery store in the fresh fruit section. It was the standard model. I later searched on Amazon to see if there was a better price because usually Amazon has that down. I came across the Elite version and decided to give it a try as frozen treats such as ice cream has been to much of my diet for years. The point of the machine is to make healthy frozen dessert treats that are similar to what you would expect in ice cream but using only frozen fruit. I was definitely skeptical of this product as no junk food is as good to me as ice cream. The first few batches I made were decent at best but I have been using this everyday so have found my perfect consistency. My personal favorite is using frozen cherries and bananas then refreezing for 10 minutes or so to really thicken it up like ice cream. In addition to benefiting from eating fruit instead of ice cream, I really enjoy the output and have actually lost a few pounds of weight!

Health is Wealth Invest Wisely!!
Great idea! GREAT product!! Out of the box made vanilla Yobanas within 15 mins!!! That included waiting for frozen bananas to thaw 10 mins ;-)) I was really skeptical despite reviews because I've had other items that were supposed to be quick and simple (like a high end juicer) that turned out to be an expensive full time job with much waste. Not this Yonanas; very intuitive. Came assembled and operation, cleaning and reassembly was done lickity split (literally) before I read the directions. MY DIRECTIONS for cleaning for those who complained of too much waste: Dissemble parts immediately after making Ba-Nice cream. Before using mild soap and water lick excess Ba-Nice cream off with tongue. Then either finish with soap and water right away or wait until after you eat yo Ba-Nice Cream first before it melts. Simple, efficient, no waste and tasty to boot :-) I've only glanced at the recipe book but so far I've made vanilla, strawberry using organic fresh frozen with Almond Milk ice cubes, and today I made Apple. Tomorrow I will make maple walnut. I hate to cook or spend much time fixing food but this is just too much fun. Before moving from be coming a vegetarian in 1980 and an ice cream addict I upgraded to vegan in 1993 and became a vegan ice cream addict and considered TJ's Organic Vanilla a staple! Recently, I upgraded again to Whole Food Plant Based diet and through the books I read on this ( see T.Colin Campbell, Dr. Thomas Campbell, Rip Esselstyn, Dr Michael Greger) was introduced to the Yonanas machine. Thought I would never eat ice cream again but now I'm making my own very nutritious, minus chemical, additives, etc and LOVING IT!! This is a definite keeper. But it and ENJOY!!

I'm not suppose to have milk, so this answers my ice cream needs
I love using this and making various kinds of frozen treats, it's fun to experiment. When you are done, just unscrew it and rinse it under hot water and it cleans very easily. What I haven't mastered yet it trying to put all the fruits in the chute without a big mess all over my hands and the machine. It basically chews up the iced fruit and spits it out as frozen fruit slush, you need to mix it up with the different fruits as they come out. You don't have to use the banana if you don't want to, but it adds a creaminess to the treat.

Great Product, but don't put chopped dates through it! Read my review for more info on that.
This is a beautiful appliance, and I've made banana-blueberry "nice cream" 3 times, grapefruit sorbet, once, and the "pecan pie" once. Texture just like ice cream, flavor great, BUT you cannot put dates, even chopped dates, through this machine like the pecan pie recipe says to do. The front of the machine jumps around and the dates DO NOT get ground up, but remain in hard hunks. Hopefully it didn't damage anything. So don't try it. Also, I was a little perturbed at paying $113.80 for this and while my order was processing and preparing for shipment for three days I saw the same item for $99 elsewhere, also with free shipping. I almost cancelled the order and placed it through the other Amazon source to get it cheaper and possibly faster, but didn't. I guess that's just a part of playing the "Amazon lottery", similar to buying gas these days: who knows if it'll be more or less tomorrow? But a GREAT product that I'll be using for hopefully decades to come!! And I'll be experimenting with using avocado instead of banana for the banana haters among us.

Best Thing Since Sliced Bread!
I admit anything red and shiny will attract my attention, but what the Yonanas can do held it. We had gotten into the habit of eating unhealthy snacks after dinner, really just mindless munching, and I wasn't happy about that. When I saw the beacon-red Yonanas it got me to thinking. Dr Oz is always telling us that we should all eat more good quality Greek yogurt, that eating yogurt is a very good thing. It has protein that helps prevent cravings and all sorts of good things to help the digestive tract. The clincher is, we like frozen yogurt! So I ordered the Yonanas. Okay, so using it the first time didn't quite work out as I expected. I put the removable parts into soapy dishwater to give them a wash before first use. I assembled the parts and began dropping in a bag of frozen mixed berries. My yogurt wasn't frozen yet, so I was aiming for mixed berry sherbet. What I got was berry juice pouring out everywhere and spreading all over the counter! I immediately thought, I'm going to have to ask the Amazon customers what the heck I did wrong. So I started disassembling it, and trying to control all the deep purple juice pouring out everywhere, and scraping out the berry sludge with a rubber scraper. The mashed berries were even back around the lug-nut axle that spins for mixing. I washed the Yonanas and all the parts, no easy task considering the minuscule amount of space allowed around the axle. And what do I find under all the suds in the dishwater? The little cone-shaped part with the cutting blades! For pity sake, don't ever buy a black sink. You cannot see what's in the sudsy water like you can with a light colored sink. So I then knew exactly what had gone wrong. I had missed that part from the first washing, and it wasn't in the Yonanas when I was inadvertently making "berry juice & fruit sludge." So I reassembled everything for a repeated try with a bag of unsweetened, frozen peaches. It worked like a champ! We were very impressed. When assembled correctly, it cleans up very easily, no problem there at all. Nothing stuck anywhere that would make it difficult to clean. The next night we tried a combination of mixed berries and yogurt, even better! This last one was what I was aiming for. What also pleased us, no one at all went for any other snack all evening long. The Yonanas had done exactly as I had hoped! Now we're hitting "three birds with one stone," as the expression goes. We never manage to get the daily requirement of fruit, we are now; the yogurt is good in all ways for us; and the protein is stopping the unhealthy craving and snacking. As a side note, depending upon the sweetness of the fruit you buy, and how tart your yogurt selection is, and of course your personal taste, you could always add a bit of zero calorie sweetener. All around I could not expect more from the Yonanas than it is delivering. The other advantage I could immediately see is what a terrific thing to have on hand for when unexpected guests stop over, and kids would love it! Since you'll always have yogurt pre-frozen in ice cube trays and bags of frozen fruit, there is no prep work to making a wonderful, healthy, satisfying dessert for guests, even those "watching what they eat." There are also many recipes on the Web, so having new ideas for variety is a Web click away. Whoever invented the Yonanas is a genius! We would highly recommend it. Just be sure to put the cutting cone in when you use it! Side note: if you order the Yonanas, you might want to consider a couple of covered ice cube trays to freeze the yogurt in. Another helpful tool is a mini-rubber scraper. I happened to have a couple already, but instantly recognized how perfectly they were sized for the Yonanas. Covered Ice cube trays: http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Cube-Tray/dp/B00004OCLA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401672062&sr=8-1&keywords=Covered+ice+cube+tray These aren't the exact ones I have, but they are the mini-size. Mine have a slight scoop-shape to them. Amazon doesn't have mine, but William-Sonoma does. Mini-Rubber Scrapers: http://www.amazon.com/Flexible-Rubber-Mini-Scraper-Spatula/dp/B008VUZDVM/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1401672741&sr=1-2&keywords=small+rubber+scraper UPDATE: A friend ask us to make the recipe with bananas and a peanut butter cup. Yuck, it was dreadful! Will definitely be sticking with yogurt and fruit.

Going Bananas for Yonanas! 🍌
I finally used my Yonanas Elite this week after letting it sit on my kitchen counter for about 3 weeks. Since I'm handicapped I find it very hard to perform kitchen activities and usually have to wait for someone to help me. I'm also an ice cream addict and I was out of ice cream and frozen yogurt. I did have many kinds of frozen fruits in the freezer though, being stocked for when I did use my Y.E. I decided to be brave and try to make me a frozen dessert even if it would be difficult. I chose to make a strawberry, banana, and peaches soft serve dessert (all fresh fruit I had bought). I set them on the counter for about 12 minutes to slightly defrost. They were slightly softer so I was worried that my finished product would be like a milkshake and a disappointment. I began with 1/2 banana followed by 4 large straw berries, and then 4 large peach slices. I ended it with the other 1/2 of the banana. All of the fruits passed easily thru the chamber (I can't remember it's name) as I pushed down with the plunger with just enuf pressure that my arms could provide easily. As I watched it come out of the other end I was so excited! The fruits had mixed beautifully and the consistency was like ice cream. It was perfect! And believe it or not, this all took less than 2 minutes from when I put in the 1st banana to the finished product! I was so excited. I stopped to rinse out the blade holder and plunger (a small piece of peach was still in the chamber) with warm water. Thirty seconds and everything was clean. Finally, I tasted my 1st bite of my custard and I couldn't believe how delicious it was. The fruits blended thoroughly and mixed in with each other to create a wonderful treat! It also satisfied my ice cream craving. How I managed to be fearful of operating my Y.E on my own I do not understand . It was so easy and only required minimal strength to operate (I have a muscle disease that affects my arms and hands). The entire piece was a bit heavy, but I had my daughter pull it out and place it where I could reach it and operate it easily after she left. I should mention it too that just the small amount of fruits that I added, became a large bowl of delicious fruity dessert, enuf for 2 people, however I wasn't about to share with anyone, Let me sum it up. The Yonanas Elite is: 1. Attractive to look at (red) 2. Moderately heavy for those with arm Or hand issues 3. Rinses clean easily 4. Assembled/disassembles easily 5. Makes frozen desserts that taste great and spoons like ice cream 6. Requires planning ahead so fruit is ready and waiting to use 7. Fruit needs to be set out 10-15 Minutes before putting it in the chamber. 8. Fabulous investment, especially if You're an ice cream addict.

This is a wonderful machine. The soft serve is more like a fruit sorbet but it really works. It also takes care of those ice cream cravings in a way that makes me feel I am doing something healthy instead of feeling guilty about eating ice cream. It also seems to be very filling so you don't need to eat a lot of it. Maybe that's the fiber in the fruit. If you try to refreeze the finished product it becomes rock hard so that hasn't worked for me but someone suggested making freezer pops with the leftover. Have not tried that yet. I have not owned it for long so cannot tell about the machines durability but I love what it does. It is heavy because I think the machine is mostly motor but I just leave it on the counter and don't move it much. If you follow the instructions about letting the frozen fruit soften for a few minutes it does work much better. It comes with its own recipe book but I have just done the basics and it is so tasty. I have been telling all my friends about it and I can recommend the results. It's delicious.

I love my yonanas
I love my yonanas! It takes some trial and error to find the right length of time to thaw the bananas because if you dont wait long enough they will just spray little flakes everywhere. Once I got the magic number (for me about 10 minutes) it comes out perfectly. Other fruits do better right out of the freezer so I always take the bananas out first. Fruits with skins like frozen cherries dont get a smooth - there will be little pieces of skin in the mix but I dont mind that at all. The only thing I would say is that you do need to take it apart and scrape the stuff out of the area where the blade is or you will be wasting half of it. It is easy to do and since you have to take it apart to clean, it is not anymore work - just do it as soon as you have finished making the dessert and add it to your bowl.

Fun Way to Eat Your Fruits
Great way to get recommended 2 servings of fruit a day. Spiral bound Recipe Book has 140 recipes (index all on one page which means a magnifying glass is needed!), some use 2 "ripe/spotted" frozen bananas + 1 frozen fruit (from 1/4 C to 1 C), others use just 2 fruits (sorbet), and some add frozen wine or other alcoholic beverage in the form of ice cubes. Works perfectly when fruit is "slightly" thawed, meaning from 15 to 20 minutes (longer time than on instruction card which comes with the unit) depending on density of fruit (cherries need longer thaw than berries). Makes 3, possibly 4, desert-size servings. Chute does not completely empty, so a little of the fruit mixture needs to be removed by hand. Otherwise, clean-up is simple and fast with only 5 easily assembled/disassembled parts.

GREAT appliance
We first tried the smaller $50.00 Yonana machine at a friend's house. Amazing results, but noisy. Decided to buy the red larger unit. For some unexplained reason, it costs $10.00 more if you buy the black one. That seems crazy. The larger Elite unit is much quieter and works flawlessly. The larger motor powers through the frozen fruits better and will probably last a lot longer, especially with heavy use. And there WILL be heavy use. There is a 3 yr factory warranty. Why buy the 2 year warranty that is sometimes suggested by Amazon? That seems like a waste. One reviewer said he returned it because some product stayed in the grinder head. Well, it takes all of ten seconds to rotate off the grinder head, scrape out the bits left behind and add them to the rest of the mix. That is NOT a reason not to buy it. You have to do this anyway to clean it out. Washing it out takes only another minute or so with hot water and detergent. Then you can put it back together (another ten seconds) and store it. -or make another batch of a different flavor (my preference). In fact, using only one banana or 1/2 banana and some frozen Greek yogurt cubes makes a generous single serving by the time you scoop out the bit in the grinder head. Sometimes that's all we want. You can use frozen yogurt cubes to replace part of the bananas. We keep a freezer bag with up to a quart of frozen Greek yogurt cubes ready to go. There is a recipe book that is enclosed that has about 70 pages of recipes, 2/page. Don't bother with the $17.95 pamphlet that's available. The recipe book is a great starting point. But there's no end to what you can do. We tend to add more ingredients besides bananas to the mix than are suggested in the recipes in order to get a flavor balance we prefer. Maybe our bananas are larger. Basically it's mix to taste. We've had several groups over to experiment with different flavors. Everyone has been happily surprised. And everyone has a favorite. We expect to find them in many of our guests' homes soon. Dole, the manufacturer, was brilliant. They looked at the problem of how do you market your packaged frozen fruits to more people than the limited group who are already buying them. They came up with creating a whole new food product that acts more like a juicer than a blender and keeps the antioxidants alive while letting you make your own flavors of a healthy version of ice cream and takes two minutes to make. (Our freezer stays stocked with frozen bananas and fruits.) As a result, Dole obviously hopes to sell more frozen fruits to folks who wouldn't have otherwise bought their products and who don't want to grow or buy fresh and then freeze their ingredients other than the bananas. We hope they succeed on all counts. It's all about what works for you. Be creative. Enjoy. This will be a gift that will find its way to many friends' homes for the holidays and birthdays where they are certain to be appreciated.
